Last year's tournament was a huge success and this year we plan to make it even better. The school with the most participants will receive a 016 Metro Open Championship Special Award and all schools attending will receive Participation Awards. Our student athletes will get a Participation Certificate, a gift at the door and the best award of all...experience! Parents can also participate in a gift raffle during the opening ceremony. Our goal is to run a very organized, well judged, and time efficient tournament. This level of expertise will be insured by the professionalism and experience of certified masters, referees, instructors, and trained personnel. We stand by our tradition of fairness, honest judging and officiating. Again this year we are featuring Daedo TrueScore PSS for Belt competitors. And new this year is the Belt Sport Poomsae featuring the Poomsae Pro system. We promise to make this a positive experience for all involved. Due to the overwhelming positive feedback from last year's tournament, we will again host the Annual Metro Open at SMG SportsPlex at Metuchen in order to accommodate more competitors and spectators. The facility is spacious and fully air conditioned ensuring added comfort for all of our staff, competitors, their guests and all spectators. This event is a great stepping stone for one day achieving the ultimate goal of an Olympic gold medal. RULES & REGULATIONS Current WTF/ USA Taekwondo rules and regulations will govern the championships with few modifications to enhance the competitions experience for all participants. Masters, Instructors, Holders will only be allowed on competition floor to hold boards when their competitors are competing in the Kyuk-Pa competitions. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT White V-neck WTF approved for all events trim is allowed for black belt competition & martial arts uniform. All competitors must supply their own regulation size breaking boards (see free style Kyuk-Pa rules for size.) you will be able to purchase breaking boards at the tournament. WTF POOMSAE, OPEN (FORMS) COMPETITION 1. WTF approved poomse (forms) only. Color belt poomse: Taeguek 1-8. black belt forms: 1st Dan-Koryo, nd Dan Keumgang, 3rd Dan Taebaek, etc.. All competitors must perform a rank appropriate Poomsae. 3. Open Forms, Created Forms, ITF Forms, Non-Taekwondo Forms will be allowed in this competition. Forms / Poomsae Scoring will be based on: Concentration 0% ( points) Balance 0% ( points) Grace 0% ( points) Strength 0% ( points) Understanding of Poomse 0% ( points) (Correct and orderly execution of movements) Three (3) judges will score from 5.0 points (lowest) to 10.00 (highest) with 0.1 point increments. From the five scores, the lowest and the highest will be cancelled, and the three remaining scores will be tallied to give the competitor his/her score. In the event of a tie, all five scores will be tallied to determine the winner. Open forms same as above. GYOROOGI (SPARRING) COMPETITION 1. All competitors must have a head gear, chest protector, mouth piece, shin and instep guard, forearm guard (no fist), and groin protective cup (male competitors). Any competitors without any of these required and mandatory equipments, at the time of his or her match will be declared disqualified.. All junior divisions and adult color belt divisions will run two rounds lasting one minute each round with 30 seconds break intervals. 3. All adult and junior black belts (1-17 years old) will compete in two rounds lasting one-and-a-half minute each round with 30 seconds break in between each round. Divisions will be governed by USA Taekwondo National Rules: 1. Ages 7 and under All Belts: NO contact to the head and face area.. Ages 11 and under Color Belts: NO contact to the head and face area. 3. Ages 8-9, 10-11, and 1-14 Belts: Full contact to the body and light contact to the head and face area. 4. Ages 1 and up Color Belts: Full contact to the body and light contact to the head and face area. 5. Ages 15 and up Belts: Full contact to the body and head and face area. Scoring for Gyoroogi 1. Please refer to the official referee seminar textbook for valid scoring area.. State of the art, electronic scoring system will be used to score at this competition. We are featuring Daedo TrueScore PSS & Poomsae Pro for Belt competitors. WEAPONS COMPETITION 1. The same scoring procedure applies for weapons as for hand forms.. Any Style of Weapons Forms are accepted in this category. 3. Competitors are allowed to use weapons (Nun-Chucks, Bo-Staffs, Swords, etc.) in this Weapons Competition. 4. 1/ point will be deducted if the competitor gets hit with the weapon. - 4 -
RULES & REGULATIONS (CONTINUED) FREE STYLE KYUK-PA (BREAKING) COMPETITION Regulation breaking board sizes for this competition are as follows: 1. Adult and Senior Division (18 years & over) 1 x 10 x 1 inch Pine. Teen Division (15 years 17 years) 1 x 6 x 1 inch Pine 3. Junior Division (10 years 14 years) 1 x 10 x 1/ inch Pine 4. All Children ages 9 years & under 1 x 6 x 1/ inch Pine (demo board also accepted) 5. Competitors must provide their own breaking boards. 6. Official size Breaking Boards will be sold at the day of the competition by Rhingo USA. 7. Competitors must provide their own board-holders. 8. Competitors are advised to protect the floor when using any breaking materials that will damage the gym floor. 9. Only board breaking will be allowed for all breaking competitions. Competitors will not be allowed to break any glass, bricks or perform any fire breaking. 10. Each competitor will be allowed three (3) minutes to set up and complete his/her routine. 11. Clock begins as soon as the competitor steps onto competition area. 1. Competitors will be allowed only two () attempts per station. (After an unsuccessful nd attempt, you must move on to the next station.) 13. No more than three stations will be allowed. Scoring for Free-Style Kyuk-Pa 1. Scoring will be based on the level of difficulty on the techniques, the number of boards broken at one time, the accuracy of the breaks, the flow of the routine, and the competitor s show of power, speed, creativity and style. All boards must be broken completely. Cracked, rotted or tampered wood will not be counted in scoring!. Five (5) judges will score from 5.0 (lowest) to 10.0 (highest) with 0.1 point increments. From the five scores, the lowest and the highest scores will be cancelled out and the three remaining scores will be tallied to give the competitor his/her score. In the event of a tie, all five (5) scores will be calculated to determine a winner.
