Bow thrusters, a very useful device Bow thrusters are often not a ship s first priority, until they don t function anymore. They make maneuvering much easier and take away the need for tug boats. Nevertheless bow thrusters are often forgotten during maintenance. Surprisingly, because it s very easy to inspect the bow thrusters while docking. As are changing blade foot O-rings and top seals of the pignon shaft. Both very rewarding operations. AMPS offers: Inspection Maintenance Blade repair & modification Overhaul Controls If repair is necessary Sometimes it s inevitable: the bow thruster needs a full overhaul. There are two options. 1. In dry dock 2. In house repair What to do depends on the vessel s schedule. If a docking is scheduled and there s no urgency, dry dock is the most sensible choice. If time, spares and facilities are available AMPS can inspect and do the regular maintenance in dock. Even a complete overhaul is not a problem. If there are no or poor facilities, or if the ship s time schedule doesn t allow a docking, we work in situ. If possible we do the necessary repairs on board. If not we dismount the bow thruster, blind the mount hole and ship the bow thruster to the AMPS workshop. After repair it will be mounted back with the vessel trimmed or below the waterline. We do this in close cooperation with selected and classified divers and in the presence of an AMPS supervisor. It s a big advantage that the vessel can continue its journey according schedule. Read more about our workshop on the back.

Bow thruster The things AMPS does to maintain or repair your bowthruster. CPP only: we can exchange and renew the complete blade foot O-ring set. In case of damage we can repair the blades. In case of fouling we can clean and polish the blades. We can pull the shaft to renew propeller shaft seals. See insert overhaul. In case of overhaul we remove the Pignon-shaft. Remove and renew the bearings. See insert overhaul. CPP only: we can inspect and/ or overhaul the OD-box. We can renew all propeller shaft seals. If necessary, we can replace the top seals. This means that the coupling and drive engine have to be removed too. We can do a quick scan of the gear pattern and take an oil sample. In case of overhaul, adjustments have to be made on the gearset & bearings. Our own make: AEGIR-Marine PRIME PARTS AMPS can deliver all rubber parts (seals) and bearings for a bow thruster overhaul. Delivering on time is one of our priorities. That s why we produce a lot of spares ourselves. We don t -yet- produce all makes, but the spares we do produce are very competitive. High quality, the same or better than OEM-spares A very competitive price Always in stock Our range of products is constantly extending We can deliver all OEM-spares We often hear that producers respond poorly, deliveries take (too) long and that procedures are complicated. If that s your experience, it s good to know that we can supply the OEM-spares you need. We know the ways and we are very persistent. Advantages for you: you save time, you don t get annoyed and you get one bill to cover all. Extra service: we draw up a spare parts list When you ve booked us for a job, know that as an extra service- we can make a list with all parts required for the scheduled work. We know what s needed and see what s missing or wrong. Just aks us, if you re interested. "Bow thrusters save you time and money. It so much more convenient if you can depend on them." Wendel Biekmann, 1st mate AMPS workshops The advantages of our AMPS workshop are plenty: It s fully equipped for the overhaul of (bow)thrusters. We have cranes that can lift up to 10 tons. All necessary tools are present. As are the knowledge and experience. Under water repair & placement If a bow thruster needs to be repaired, mounted or replaced and docking is not an option we offer under water servicing. We selected some great diver companies. Not only are they qualified, they also have the knowledge and experience required. And just like us, they really like what they re doing. If divers are required an AMPS supervisor will be present to coordinate and support the work.

Controls an essential part of any propulsion installation It used to be simple, with one handle on the bridge to go forward or backwards and a loud voice to accompany the order. That was then. Nowadays controls are a vital part of any propulsion installation. Controls ensure that the power of the engine and the CPP/bow thruster are aligned properly. Sooner or later problems appear During our work on CPP and bow thrusters we often run into problems with controls. Like any other computer kept in a humid and dusty environment with a lot of vibrations problems will appear. Being mechanics we can t always fix these problems. Controls only become more complex and most mechanical engineers do not have the necessary training. That s why we decided to expand with Controls-specialists. Our Controls specialists have the knowledge, experience and tools to check, maintain and repair your control systems. For Controls we offer Inspection Maintenance Repair and adjustments to printcards and units Retrofit In situ or in house repair Controls service is a very practical addition to our portfolio. The short line between our controls specialist and our engineers enables us to solve a lot of the smaller problems right away. Once it turns out to be more complicated, our controls specialist can be called in. His knowledge includes most brands and a customer no longer needs to go back to the OEM. This enables us to work flexible and fast.

AMPS has a workshop too Our workshop is fully equipped for all control work. We repair printcards. We develop control units and prepare retrofits. It s easy to replace a control unit, but in this day and age it s sensible to check if there s another way. Printcards can be repaired. Units can undergo a retrofit. It s money-wise and environmentally friendly. Everything in stock We keep a large stock. AMPS has most controls spares in stock for all major brands. We can deliver on the spot and have the spares you need shipped within 24 hours. AMPS has short lines with all suppliers and can often deliver sooner and cheaper. We can also make up a spares list for the job on hand. "The standard OEM solution for printcard problems is: replace it. In many cases unnecessary. It s the easy way out. It s often fairly easy to replace some parts.it saves you money and -more important- it saves you time." André Klinkhamer, controls specialist

AMPS the CPP specialists Whether it s about a scheduled inspection or a docking because of damage, AMPS can help you. We cover the whole process of maintenance: Starting with blade foot O-ring replacement, OD-box check-ups, shaft withdrawal, full hub inspection or overhaul. We dare to say that AMPS is a great choice And we say so without hesitation, because we are a pure service provider. Meaning we will service you the way you want to be serviced. A superintendent that contracts us, can count on a job well done within the scheduled time and qualifications required and very important- we do it with a smile. At least 90% of the time. AMPS inspects your installation thoroughly and reports back in detail including an adequate solution for problems found. "Bumping into AMPS I thought Let s give these guys a try. It turned out to be an excellent choice. The engineers are driven, know what they re doing and displayed a genuine interest. In me as the customer and in my -technical- problems." Carel Doolward, superintendent Our engineers are highly skilled and have experience with all majors OEM-installations. Because of our extended field experience, any dock will do. We adjust easily to the circumstances. And last but not least: we can deliver the spares needed for the job. Why three different engineers, when one will do? In a scheduled docking different jobs are combined. Getting it all done in time, takes some logistics. It s much more convenient if you leave everything to just one engineer instead of one for the stern tube seals, one for the propeller, one for the bow thruster. That s the difference between AMPS and any OEM.

CPP The things AMPS does to maintain or repair your CPP. Maintenance Schedule 1st docking after new built, 5 years docking: blade foot O-rings replacement, stern tube seals replacement 10 years docking: blade foot 0-rings replacement magnaflux of the propeller shaft flange shaft survey A proven combination of jobs: Shaft survey and shaft withdrawal, blade foot 0-rings replacement, stern tube seal replacement, hubs, OD-box, SKF coupling. CPP blades We can repair damage, grind or polish blades for efficiency improvement. Bearings Renew or repair bearings in case of damage. Hub Dismount the hub. Replace all rubber parts and blade foot O-rings before mounting it again. Seals Overhaul or replace stern tube seals through vulcanising. We can offer both our own make AEGIR-Marine PRIME seals or OEM seals.

Coupling In order to pull the shaft, the coupling has to be removed. This must be done carefully and by the book. If not, problems may appear in the coupling when remounting. controls Shaft Pull the shaft in case of problems or on behalf of class requirement. Power Pack Oil pipes After the coupling has been removed, you can access and detach the oil pipes. What can be done and how it has to be done depends on the type. Knowledge of different systems is a big plus. OD BOX The OD-box is a small but essential part in the adjustment of the CPP. It sometimes has to be dismounted in order to pull the shaft. It s also possible that the OD-box requires a complete overhaul. Replacing the seals in an OD box sounds simple, but it s often a lot of work.

Spares by AMPS Our own make: AEGIR-Marine Prime Parts Delivering on time is one of our priorities. That s why we produce spares ourselves. We do not -yet- produce all makes, but the spares we do produce are very competitive. High quality, the same or better than OEM-spares A very competitive price Always in stock Our range of products is constantly extending We can deliver all OEM spares We often hear that manufacturers respond poorly, deliveries take (too) long and that procedures are complicated. Extra service: we draw up a spare parts list When you ve booked us for a job, we can draw up a list with all parts required for the scheduled work. Just ask us, if you re interested. Controls To ensure that the power of the engine and CPP are aligned properly, you need controls. Controls are like any other computer: a dusty environment and a lot of vibrations means problems will appear - sooner or later. Inspection will reveal the problem and show if repair is sufficient or whether you need a retrofit or replace the entire unit. "Every time I walk into a shipyard and see a docked vessel, I think: what a great installation, what a nice job." Hans Schermer, service engineer AMPS Phone +31 343 432 509 info@aegirmarine.com sterntubeseal.com

FPP & Blade repair necessary and profitable Propellers spend most of their life cycle under water. Fouling of the propeller blades is just one of the consequences. This may seem insignificant, but causes -unnoticed at first- efficiency loss. Wear or damage can remain unseen for a longer period of time. Unless your vessel starts to vibrate of course. Damaged blades can do a lot of harm to the propulsion installation. And to your wallet. Efficiency loss means higher fuel costs. AMPS offers you metallurgical repairs: such as welding, straightening, grinding & polishing, diameter reduction & trailing edge cutting OEM independent specialists hydrodynamic calculations before repair repair & modifications underwater repair specialists a fully equipped workshop propeller & blade inspection new propeller (blades) Damaged blades If your propeller blades are damaged, repair has to take place. Moreover a coherent, well-thought-out repair has to be carried out. Of course it s possible to just cut off the damaged section, but a propulsion installation is a delicate and balanced system. Cutting off pieces will influence propulsion as a whole. AMPS offers a thorough inspection or a report-based solution. Our hydrodynamic engineer will give you advice that minimises efficiency loss and fits your propulsion installation. Repairs can be done in situ, in house, or afloat. Repair procedures All repair procedures are set up in close collaboration with the classification society and the customer. AMPS reports back with a detailed report of repair including all data, measurements and adjustments.

In situ & in house FPP repair will in many cases be done afloat or while docking at a shipyard. CPP and bow thruster blades can be repaired afloat, at a shipyard or in house. If possible the most convenient way is to repair in house or at a shipyard. AMPS offers fully equipped workshops in the Netherlands. If in house repair is not an option, our blade repair specialist can do the job locally too. He either does it himself or supervises the local shipyard employees. Afloat and underwater repair Underwater repair reduces the vessel s downtime and saves you the trouble and costs of dry-docking. AMPS can perform the cold straightening of bent blades and remove damaged blade sections. All repairs will be carried out by an experienced propeller repair specialist. A hydrodynamic engineer makes the necessary calculations. It goes without saying that the calculated propeller mass balance has to be according to ISO class standards. Hydrodynamic edge profiles will be established on the modified blades. AMPS selects qualified diving companies When repair needs to be done afloat or under water, AMPS works with highly qualified divers. The carefully selected diving companies offer trained divers with a lot of specialist knowledge and experience. If the work has to be done on the spot and local facilities and knowledge are insufficient our service is what you need. You don t want to take any risk with your propulsion installation.

Meet Aegir-Marine Propulsion Ser vice The things we do AMPS deals with -almost- the whole propulsion installation. Everything except for the engine and the gearbox. We pull the propeller shaft, we maintain the OD box, vulcanise seals and check/update controls, we inspect and overhaul the bow thruster and we grind and modify blades. Basically, whatever you need done, we can do. AMPS is one-stop-shopping. You no longer need 3 or 4 different OEM engineers. One AMPS engineer will do. Martin Visser Managing Director What defines us We genuinely care. We love the job. We love the challenge of a problem that has to be solved. We love ships and we really want to help you any way we can. AMPS is about servicing your ship(s) in the best way possible. It is about going the extra mile for a customer. To us 24/7 service is not another advertising slogan. We stand for service as it should be: flexible, fast, adequate, fair priced and reliable. AMPS offers CPP: inspection, maintenance, overhaul FPP / Blade: repair, modifications Bow thrusters: inspection, maintenance, overhaul Controls: service, reset adjustments, retrofit Spares: for CPP, bow thrusters and controls AMPS is part of the AEGIR-Marine Group

Spares by AMPS: AEGIR-Marine PRIME PARTS Delivering on time is one of our priorities. That s why we produce spares ourselves. We do not -yet- produce all makes, but the spares we do produce are very competitive. High quality, the same or better than OEM spares. The price is fair. All our spares are always in stock. Our product range is constantly expanding. We can also deliver all OEM spares. Workshops Some jobs can be done in dock, some can be done afloat and some have to be done in a workshop. AMPS has 3 workshops: 1 for bow thrusters 1 for controls 1 for FPP and blade repair All workshops are fully equipped for the work. The engineers are skilled and experienced, the tools are available. And the workshops meet high requirements. Underwater repair In an ideal world, docking would never be a problem. However, in real life that s not the case. Many repairs have to be done on the spot in the quickest way possible. Sometimes afloat or under water. In those cases AMPS works with highly qualified divers from recognised diving companies. AMPS has selected them because of their specific knowledge and experience. Controls Engines are no longer stand-alones. Controls have become a vital part of the propulsion installation. Controls are complex electronic devices that require up-to-date specialist knowledge. And -like it or notthese systems only get more complex and most maritime engineers do not have the necessary training. AMPS Control specialists have the knowledge, experience and tools to check, maintain and repair your controls.
