Friday s game will be available on SEC Network + via WatchESPN and the ESPN app, with Chelsea Reber and Boomer white calling the game. The final two games of the series on Saturday and Sunday will be broadcasted to a national audience on the SEC Network, with Courtney Lyle and Jenny Dalton-Hill handling commentary duties. It will be the second and third games on national TV in four contests for Ole Miss after Tuesday s affair with Boston College in Oxford was also televised on the SEC Network. Sharing the same conference for only a few seasons, Ole Miss and Texas A&M have met just 14 times. The Aggies hold a commanding lead in the all-time series at 12-2, having won each of the last seven times the two programs have faced off. However, recent battles between the Rebs and Aggies have been tight, with four of the last five games being decided by three runs or less. Ole Miss is 1-6 all-time in College Station, with the only victory coming in a 2-0 shutout over then-no. 21 Texas A&M in 2005. Ole Miss will be looking to alter recent history in the first conference series of the season. During the three previous seasons of the Mike Smith era, the Rebels are just 1-8 in the opening series, including a 3-0 sweep at the hands of the Aggies in 2017. The Rebels are looking to break their first losing streak of the season after back-to-back losses to Southern Miss and Boston College. Ole Miss remains in the top-20 in both national polls, being slotted No. 18 in the USA Softball Poll and No. 19 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll. The Aggies are considered one of the premier squads in the nation, coming in at No. 7 in both national polls. The last time Ole Miss faced a Top-10 team, the Rebels earned a thrilling 1-0 victory over No. 3 Oregon in Mexico. Freshman third baseman Amanda Roth was absolutely unconscious at the plate during the Ole Miss Classic. Roth posted a.833 average during the event, reaching base in 10-of-11 plate appearances. In the first game of the weekend, Roth became the first Rebel in 2018 to hit multiple home runs in a game and drove in four RBIs, the most by a Rebel this season. The Aggies enter the series with a 19-3 record after going 4-1 at the A&M Invite in College Station last weekend and topping Penn State in a midweek matchup on Tuesday. Texas A&M is headed by legendary coach Jo Evans, one of 15 active coaches with over 1,000 wins at the Division I level. PROJECTED STARTING LINEUP POSITION PLAYERS Pos. No. Name Yr. B/T GP-GS Avg. SCOUTING REPORT Jo Evans, an NFCA Hall of Fame inductee, is in her 22nd season as the head coach of Texas A&M. Evans is one of 15 active coaches with at least 1,000 wins at the Division I level, having guided three different programs to national prominence. Evans began her head coaching career in 1986 before moving to her alma mater, Utah, four years later. She remained in Salt Lake City for seven seasons, guiding the Utes to the WCWS twice in that span. Since taking over in College Station, all Evans has done is win over 68 percent of her games and take TAMU to Oklahoma City three times. Texas A&M comes into this weekend s series ranked seventh in both the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and USA Softball Poll. The Aggies have accumulated a 19-3 record, Winning six of their last seven games. Last weekend, Texas A&M went 4-1 as hosts of the A&M Invite, with the lone blemish coming against a quality Utah team. at the Invite, TAMU bested Louisiana Tech, an NCAA Tournament team a year ago, twice, while also knocking off Texas State, another NCAA qualifier, and getting revenge over the Utes. In a midweek clash on Tuesday, A&M topped Penn State 8-0 in five innings in College Station. The Aggies boast a powerful offense, ranking 31st in the nation with a.317 batting average as a team, going along with a.408 OBP, 19th in the country. Texas A&M has also posted impressive power numbers with 28 doubles, four triples and 16 home runs. Seven Aggies are batting over.300 with at least 20 at-bats, led by Sarah Hudek s.414 average. Not far behind is Ashley Walters at.383, also ranking second on the team with 17 RBIs. Keeli Milligan hits at a.358 clip and once on base is extremely dangerous with 15 steals in 16 attempts. One of the top players in the game, Tori Vidales hits for power and average. She is batting.344 and leads the team with 28 RBI s, including a team-best five home runs. The Texas A&M pitching staff has also proven to be tremendously formidable this season. The staff as a whole has registered a 1.64 ERA, holding opposing batters to a.220 average. Three players carry a bulk of the load for the Aggies, with Samantha Show being the bell cow at 51.1 innings. Show is 6-2 with a 2.59 ERA, striking out 28 and walking 19. Trinity Harrington is next in line with 36.1 innings in the circle, boasting a 1.16 ERA and a 25-to-3 strikeout-to-walk ratio while going 5-1. Maddie MacGrandle is undefeated at 4-0, posting a 1.24 ERA in her 28.1 innings. Lexi Smith has also seen some work with 18.1 frames on the rubber. She holds a 1.53 ERA while going 3-0. Texas A&M 3, Ole Miss 1: No. 22 Ole Miss softball kept the series finale close in a low-scoring affair, but No. 7 Texas A&M prevailed, winning 3-1. The Rebels mustered just three hits, scoring the lone run in the sixth inning, while the Aggies starter Lexi Smith issued five walks but struck out 14. For Ole Miss, four different pitchers were inserted in the circle surrendering just two earned runs. Offensively, Texas A&M was only able to score one run at a time in the first two frames and the fourth. Brittany Finney drove in Miranda Strother in the sixth, scoring the Rebels only run, while Kylan Becker and Paige McKinney also had a hit each. The Rebels did draw five walks off Smith, as Ashton Lampton finished with two, and Strother, McKinney and Syrett all had one each. Elisha Jahnke earned her first start of the season and worked just two thirds of an inning after she issued a leadoff walk, then walked another after Courtney Syrett cut down the initial hitter trying to steal. An error then put two on, before a passed ball moved them both up into scoring position. Riley Sartain then lifted a sacrifice fly to deep center putting the Aggies in front 1-0. After another walk and wild pitch, Morgan Bruce entered in relief and worked a grounder to end the frame. The Aggies got a two out rally going in the second after back-to-back singles, then a walk loaded the bases. Bruce issued another basesloaded walk to plate the second run, before she worked out of the jam again with a flyout to right. Texas A&M added its third run in the fourth off a double off the wall in right-center, before Alyssa Clayton took over and worked three-straight outs escaping another jam. Ole Miss two biggest chances of the afternoon came in the final two frames, including the sixth when Strother and Lampton both reached via walk, before Finney ripped a pinch-hit single through the right side scoring Strother to cut the advantage to 3-1. The Rebels had one final chance in the seventh after McKinney drew a leadoff walk, and Becker reached via an infield single, but A&M s Trinity Harrington the Friday night starter closed the door.

AT TEXAS A&M 5 HORTON HEARS SOME HITS While Ole Miss struggled offensively in Tuesday s midweek tilt with Boston College, sophomore utility player Kaylee Horton had one of the finest days at the plate of her young career. Horton went 3-for-3 with a run scored, tying her career high with three hits in a single game. It was the first game of Horton s career with a hit in every at-bat (minimum two at-bats). The performance was a coming out party of sorts, as the Jasper, Alabama native had just four hits in her previous 22 at-bats this season. REBS GO 3-1 AT OLE MISS CLASSIC After the Red & Blue Classic was cancelled the previous week, the Rebels were finally able to host a home tournament with the Ole Miss Classic. The Rebels went 3-1 at the classic, defeating UT Martin, Saint Louis and Chattanooga before falling in the event s final game to Southern Miss. The Rebels scored 25 runs over the three days, surrendering just 10. BELIEVE IN NO. 3 Prior to a setback against Southern Miss, Kaitlin Lee was having about as strong of a start to the 2018 season in the circle as you could have asked for. With a win against UT Martin on the opening day of the Ole Miss Classic, Lee became the first pitcher in Ole Miss history to win each of her first eight decisions in a single season. Dating back to last season, she had won 15 of her previous 16 decisions. SLUMP BUSTED Entering the Ole Miss Classic, freshman third baseman Amanda Roth had yet to get a hit in the first 15 at-bats of her collegiate career. The native Texan got off the schneid in a big way against UT Martin, going 3-for-3 with two home runs and a double, collecting four RBIs, the most by a Rebel this season. When the classic was all said and done, Roth had gone 5-for-6 at the plate with a.833 average, a.909 on-base percentage, a 2.000 slugging percentage, five RBIs, three walks and three runs scored. LUCK WITH THE LEADOFF Nothing puts pressure on the opposing defense more than getting the leadoff batter aboard to start an inning. Ole Miss has been very proficient in this area, with seven players batting.500 when leading off an inning. Those players include Amanda Roth, Alex Schneider, Elantra Cox, Dylinn Stancil, Izzy Werdann and Celeste Wood. STAFF OF THE STINGIEST ORDER Even when the Rebel bats aren t firing on all cylinders, the Ole Miss pitching staff has kept the Rebels in the ball game in pretty much every contest. Of the Rebels 17 games, the pitching staff has held its opponent to two runs or less 13 times. This includes three shutouts and an additional four games holding the opposing team to a single run. NEW HITS QUEEN With a bunt single to the pitcher in the fourth inning of Ole Miss 4-2 come-from-behind victory over Murray State, Elantra Cox became the Rebels all-time leader in career hits with 224 base knocks. The infield single ended up providing a spark that Ole Miss was in need of, with the Rebels down 2-0 with the first nine batters of the game being retired in order. Ole Miss eventually tied the game 2-2 in the fourth and went on to complete the comeback with two more runs in the sixth. The speedy outfielder is one of the most dangerous offensive threats not only in the SEC but across the country, having led the NCAA in hits with 93 a year ago. REBELS PROVE THEY BELONG IN PUERTO VALLARTA Despite a disappointing performance in the 6-0 loss to Houston, Ole Miss showed it belongs amongst the nation s top teams with its play in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge. The Rebels opened with a dominating 8-2 win over Texas and earned their first run-rule victory of the season at 9-1 over Rutgers in six frames. Ole Miss was pitted against No. 3 in the main event of the challenge Saturday night and didn t disappoint, coming out on top in a pitcher s duel for the ages between Kaitlin Lee and the Ducks Megan Kleist. Lee kept the mighty Oregon offense off the board all night, setting up Elantra Cox RBI single to plate Paige McKinney in the ninth. IN THE DUGOUT/WHERE THEY ARE ON THE FIELD THE REBELS RECORD WHEN... KAITLIN LEE NAMED SEC PITCHER OF THE WEEK Following 13-straight scoreless innings at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge, leading to being selected as MVP of the event, Kaitlin Lee was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week for Week Two. Perhaps surprisingly, it was the first pitcher of the week nod for the 2017 SEC Tournament MVP. Lee was about as good as it gets south of the border. She started off Ole Miss stay in Puerto Vallarta with four scoreless innings against Texas, scattering four hits and ultimately garnering the win as the Rebels earned an 8-2 victory. However, the real headliner came in the tournament finale in front of a packed house against No. 3 Oregon. Facing possibly the top offense in all of college softball, Lee was unflappable, tossing nine scorless frames and striking out five as the Rebels pulled the upset in extras. Even with a runner placed immediately in scoring position at second base for the two extra inning stranzas, the vaunted Oregon offense could do nothing to crack the code on the righty from Gulfport. For her efforts, Lee was also named the College Sports Madness and D1SoftballNews National Pitcher of the Week. REBELS ON NATIONAL TV Ole Miss will play at least nine games on national television in 2018. The Rebels will appear on SEC Network seven times as well as ESPN2 and ESPNU each once, with four of those being played at home at the Ole Miss Softball Complex. In addition, all other home games will be available through WatchESPN and the ESPN app as part of the SEC Network + digital steaming platform. OLE MISS PICKED SEVENTH IN SEC PRESEASON POLL Ole Miss was picked 7th in the 2018 Preseason SEC Softball Poll. A year ago, the league s head coaches picked the Rebels 10th in the poll, before they went on to finish eighth with a 10-14 record and won the program s first-ever SEC Tournament Title. In each of the three seasons of the Mike Smith era, Ole Miss has outperformed its projection in the conference preseason poll. BECKER TO REPRESENT THE STARS & STRIPES In early January, Rebel outfielder Kylan Becker was selected to one of two USA Softball national teams following a selection trial in Clearwater, Florida. The junior is one of 17 players that will represtent the United States at the 2018 USA vs. Japan All-Star Series in Japan in 2018. The team will also compete in the 2018 World Cup of Softball. Becker is the first player in program history to be selected to the US National Team. REBEL DUO NAMED PRESEASON ALL-SEC Making up one-third of the outfield selections, Ole Miss Kylan Becker and Elantra Cox were tabbed to the Preseason All-SEC team, becoming the first Rebel duo to receive the distinction. Of the 17 total honorees, Ole Miss was tied for the second most in the league with two selections, matching Auburn, Georgia and Texas A&M. BECKER, COX TABBED TO USA SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR TOP-50 WATCH LIST Continuing to collect a myriad of preseason honors after stellar 2017 seasons, Kylan Becker and Elantra Cox were both named to USA Softball s Collegiate Player of the Year Top-50 Watch List, becoming the first Rebels to make the list since Lauren Grill in 2009. Ole Miss is the only school with multiple outfielders to make the watch list. The Top-25 finalists for the award will be announced April 25. EXPERIENCE RETURNS FOR 2018 CAMPAIGN Ole Miss returns 13 players from the 2017 squad, icluding nine who appeared in at least 30 games. All five pitchers return to the lineup, representing 424.1 innings of work last season. Kaitlin Lee s 349.2 innings pitched in the circle was the sixth highest total in the nation in 2017 and the second highest mark among power-five players. Kylan Becker and Elantra Cox both started 62 of Ole Miss 63 games last season and will continue to make up 2/3 of the Rebel outfield. OLE MISS ADDS LARGE, IMPACTFUL FRESHMAN CLASS While Ole Miss returns a wealth of experience in 2018, the Rebels also have plenty of new faces. Ole Miss welcomes a freshman crop of seven players, one off of last year s total and the third most in program-history, with many likely to make an impact early in their careers. Utility player Ally Mena and third baseman Amanda Roth will compete for starting roles within the infield, while Abbey Latham will compete for time at first base and in the designated player role. Meanwhile, utility players Mary Terral and Jessica Puk will provide position flexibility and may be utilized in a myriad of different roles. While Ole Miss will have all five pitchers from last season back this season, left hander Anna Borgen and righty Ava Tillmann will also push for innings in the circle, giving Ole Miss pitching depth matched by few programs. REBELS ADD THREE IMPACT TRANSFERS Ole Miss added three key transfers to its 2018 roster in redshirt-sophomore C Autumn Gillespie, junior OF Celeste Wood and junior C/3B Izzy Werdann. Gillespie and Wood came to Oxford from UCF and Michigan State, respectively, while Werdann transferred in after two seasons at JUCO power Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. See below for notable facts and figures on Ole Miss attendance numbers in 2017. Shattered the school record for total attendance for the second-consecutive year (20,499 up from 13,506). After finishing 27th in the NCAA in accumulative attendance in 2016, climbed up five spots to No. 22 in 2017 despite having the smallest capacity of any school in the top-27. five of the top-10 single-game crowds in program history came in 2017. Top-three crowds all came during NCAA Oxford Regional (1,709 vs. North Carolina (5/21); 1,677 vs. Southern Illinois (5/19); 1,539 vs. Arizona State (5/20). The percentage increase of total attendance from 2016-17 was 52 percent. REBELS TO BE TESTED IN 2018 Ole Miss will face an extremely challenging slate of games in 2018. Of the 32 opponents Ole miss will face, 11 received a bid to the NCAA Tournament last season (Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida A&M, Georgia, LSU, Mississippi State, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Texas A&M) Of the 11 opponents, five were No. 1 seeds (Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Oregon, Texas A&M), two were No. 2 seeds (South Carolina, Texas), three were No. 3 seeds (Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi State) and one was a No. 4 seed (Florida A&M) Three of those teams advanced to the Women s College World Series (LSU, Oregon, Texas A&M) The Rebels will play six opponents who are ranked in either or both of the preseason top-25 polls If you include teams that received votes in either poll, that number grows to 10 NATIONAL POLLS USA Today/NFCA Coaches Top 25 Poll (March 6) AT TEXAS A&M 7 Rank Team Record Prev. 1 Washington (29) 23-0 1 2 Florida (1) 19-1 2 3 UCLA (2) 19-0 3 4 Tennessee 21-1 5 5 Oklahoma 13-2 4 6 Oregon 18-4 6 7 Texas A&M 18-3 7 8 LSU 19-2 10 9 Arizona 15-2 9 10 Auburn 23-2 12 11 Georgia 18-1 14 12 Baylor 11-3 8 13 Alabama 12-5 11 14 Arizona State 16-2 16 15 Florida State 15-6 13 16 Ohio State 11-1 19 17 California 18-3 15 18 South Carolina 19-1 20 19 Ole Miss 13-3 17 20 Louisiana 12-5 18 21 Long Beach State 16-4 22 22 Michigan 13-6 25 23 Kentucky 14-3 24 24 USC Upstate 18-0 NR 25 McNeese State 16-5 23 Others Receiving Votes: Minnesota (33), James Madison (31), Mississippi State (29), Arkansas (27), Oklahoma State (19), Louisville (13), Texas State (13), Hofstra (7), Texas (7), Nebraska (4), Houston (3), Wichita State (1). COX & BECKER TABBED ALL-AMERICA BY COLLEGE SPORTS MADNESS Seeming to receive a new national award on a weekly basis, Kylan Becker and Elantra Cox were again recognized for their tremendous 2017 seasons as well as the potential for great 2018 campaigns when the outfield pair was selected to the College Sports Madness Preseason All-America teams. Becker was placed on the second team, while Cox landed on the fourth team to mark the second-straight year the senior was named All-America by College Sports Madness. Of the 48 players selected, 19 hail from an SEC school. RUNS AT A PREMIUM In the entire history of Ole Miss softball the Rebels have played in 71 games finishing with a 1-0 score, with 13 of those games occuring over the past two-plus seasons, including six last season. In those 13 games the Rebels have registered an 8-5 record, compared to a 31-40 all-time record in such games. PLAYING DEEP INTO THE NIGHT Ole Miss played in six extra inning games in 2017, with three of those contests ranking in the top-five in longest games in program-history. Ole Miss 1-0 victory over Central Arkansas in 12 innings was the third longest game ever, while the 8-7 NCAA Super Regional loss to UCLA and 5-4 defeat to Jacksonville State in 11 innings tied for the fourthlongest game in Rebel history. The Rebels have already played two extra-inning affairs this season, earning wins over Lamar (eight innings) and Oregon (nine innings). ERROR-FREE PLAY Through two-plus seasons, Kylan Becker has been the epitome of steady defensively in the outfield. The Miami, Florida native has never committed an error in 150 chances through her first two-plus seasons in Oxford. To this point, Becker has kept up her consistent play while adjusting to a new position, sliding from right field to center to start the 2018 campaign. No player in program-history has ever finished her career with a perfect fielding percentage in at least 100 chances. The current roster in general has been rock-steady defensively, with three players, (Becker, Alex Schneider, and Brittany Finney) ranking in the top-10 all-time in career fielding percentage. ON DECK Following this weekend s matchup with the Aggies, Ole Miss remains on the road for a midweek matchup with Southeastern Louisiana. Behind his leadership, the Rebels have quickly become a respectable, national contender on many levels. In three seasons his teams have tied the school wins record, then broken it, then reset it a year later in 2017. Ole Miss had only two winning seasons in 18 years prior to Smith s arrival, but fast forward three years, and the list of accolades have already piled up. Two NCAA Tournament appearances, including an NCAA Super Regional run in 2017, the 2017 SEC Tournament Title, and 114 total wins are just to name a few. The resurgence began back on May 29, 2014 when Smith was announced as the fifth head coach of the program. Since, the record books have been rewritten and the Rebels have enjoyed many firsts both on and off the diamond. The 2017 edition, with many of the same players from 2016 s team, didn t settle for just a turnaround. They wanted more, and got more. Ole Miss put together a 43-win season, topping the 2016 wins record by two, and won seven of its final 12 SEC contests to rebound from an 0-6 start. After a 10thplace pick in the SEC Preseason Poll, the Rebels rallied to finish eighth and earn the No. 8 seed in the SEC Tournament. But, the seeding didn t faze them, as they went on to top Mississippi State, shock No. 1 Florida, top No. 15 Alabama for the third time, and eventually beat No. 21 LSU for the fourth time to claim the school s first-ever SEC Tournament title. That feat earned them the No. 12 national seed in the NCAA Tournament to host the first-ever NCAA Regional in Oxford. After a clean sweep there, Smith s Rebels headed west to take on No. 5 UCLA, falling in two one-run games to cap yet another historic season. For the second-straight year, three of Smith s players earned NFCA All-South Region honors, as Elantra Cox picked up First Team accolades for the second consecutive year. Kylan Becker and Kaitlin Lee were named Third Team selections. Becker, a rising star in the outfield, became the school s first ever All-SEC First Team selection, while Lee picked up Second Team All-SEC honors. Freshman Morgan Bruce became the school s first ever pitcher to earn All-Freshman Team honors. To mirror the team s success and breaking of records, the fans again did their part resetting the top-10 list of largest home crowds. The three NCAA Regional crowds alone all rank 1-2-3 on the single-game attendance list, as 1,709 saw the Rebels take down North Carolina in the regional final on Sunday. 1,677 witnessed Friday s opening day, and 1,539 braved out a rain delay for a three-day total of 4,925, which would better the series attendance record by nearly 2,000. Smith and his staff earned one of top coaching awards in college softball, being named the NFCA Regional Staff of the Year for the South Region, also a first-time honor in school history. The 2016 edition of the Ole Miss Softball team won 41 games en route to the program s first ever NCAA Tournament appearance. The road there was peppered with highlights as well, as the Rebels tied the school record for SEC wins at 11 and advanced to the SEC Tournament for the fifth time after being picked 12th in the preseason poll. But, they didn t just qualify for the tournament. This time, the Rebels came up a winner as the program claimed its first ever SEC Tournament win thanks to a 4-2 victory over No. 15 Georgia on May 11. Long before Ole Miss deep run in the postseason was a regular season that started well, and featured many team and individual high points along the way. Smith s group started out 8-2, the first team to do so, before going on a school record 12-game win streak from Feb. 24 to March 9. The Rebels also put together a 15-game non-conference win streak, which was also a school record. Through the first 23 games of the campaign, Ole Miss had only lost three times, the fastest start in program history for the diamond Rebs. Then 28 games in, the Rebels win total already topped nine of the previous season s win totals in the 20-year history of the program, still with the last half of the season left to play. Along the way, Smith earned his 800th career win as a head coach in a midweek victory over Central Arkansas on March 15. His squad debuted in the crucial NCAA RPI at No. 29, and eventually rose to 27th where they finished, also highest in school history. Smith s squad snapped multiple streaks to longtime SEC powerhouses, including defeating Georgia for the first time in 13 years, as well as snapping a seven year skid to Tennessee to cap the miraculous regular season that ended at 38-19 overall and 11-13 in league action. In NCAA Regional action, the Rebels were victorious in game one for their first ever NCAA Tournament win in their first try, and went on to top Wichita State as well. All season, thanks to the team s success under Smith, record-breaking crowds showed up at the Ole Miss Softball Complex en route to a recordbreaking year for attendance. The season total attendance of 13,506 across 29 home contests shattered the previous record by 6,000-plus, and seven of the top ten crowds in program history all came in 2016. Seven of the Rebels final nine SEC games at home resulted in record crowds, including a program best 1,410 against No. 9 Tennessee on May 7. On the field, the team finished the historic campaign with 11 wins against top- 50 RPI squads, six of which came away from home, and achieved its highest RPI in recorded history of No. 27. Of the 22 losses, 15 came against top-25 RPI teams, and the Rebels in some way appeared in the top-25 national polls nearly all season long, finishing No. 24 in the final ESPN.com/USA Today Poll for the first time in school history. Smith coached three Rebels to NFCA All-Region honors, including sophomore outfielder Elantra Cox (First Team), freshman shortstop Hailey Lunderman (Second Team), and senior pitcher Madi Osias (Third Team). Lunderman was also a Top-10 Finalist for the Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year Award, and earned All-Freshman SEC honors following her stellar season. Thanks to the team s best season to date, Smith was awarded a contract extension on June 7, ensuring he and Ole Miss commitment to the softball program for the long term future. In Smith s first season as a Rebel, Smith came up aces, tying the then school record for wins in a season and putting an offense on the field that rewrote the record books. The Rebels set every offensive record for a season, including batting average, runs scored, RBI, home runs, triples, walks, steals and both on base percentage and slugging percentage. Ole Miss also tied the school record for doubles in his first season. Under his direction in year one, the Rebels advanced to the SEC Tournament for only the fourth time in school history and the first time since the 2008 season. The 30-wins tied the mark for wins in a year set in 2005 and gave Smith a winning record in his first year. Ole Miss also doubled its win total in Southeastern Conference play, tallying six wins which equaled the total number of conference wins in the previous two seasons combined. He also coached outfielder Elantra Cox to Freshman All-SEC honors as she finished the regular season fourth in steals and seventh in the career record books with 30 in her debut campaign. AT TEXAS A&M 10 Smith came to Ole Miss after he led the McNeese State softball program to three-straight 30-plus win seasons in his three years with the Cowgirls. He led McNeese State to back-to-back Southland Conference regular season championships in 2013 and 2014, its first since 1994, and was named the Southland Conference Coach of the Year both seasons. The Cowgirls went 40-17 during the regular season in 2014, a school record for wins in a season, and posted a 3-1 record against Southeastern Conference opponents Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M. The Cowgirls finished the season with an RPI ranking of No. 46 and won the Southland Conference regular season title by 4.5 games with a 20-6 record. In addition to Smith being named SLC Coach of the Year in 2014, the Cowgirls also had the conference s player of the year, hitter of the year and pitcher of the year. In all, the Cowgirls had nine players named to either the SLC first, second, third or honorable mention teams. Under Smith s tutelage, the Cowgirls had two players named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I All-South Region team in outfielder Alanna DiVittorio and pitcher Jamie Allred. DiVittorio, the Southland Conference player and hitter of the year, was the first player in program history to earn first team all-region honors. As a senior in 2014, DiVittorio broke a combined nine school and conference records. Allred, the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Year, earned second team all-region honors. She finished 2014 with a school-record 27 wins, as well as 10 shutouts. Both players earned first team All-SLC honors this season and were each Capital One Academic All-District selections. DiVittorio was also named to the Capital One Academic All-America team, becoming just the second player in program history to earn the distinction. In 2013, his second season with McNeese State, Smith had five players named to the All-SLC team and four named to the All-SLC Academic Team. On the field, the Cowgirls tied a then-program record with 38 wins, going 38-13. In his first season with McNeese State in 2012, Smith led the Cowgirls to a 3-1 win over Arizona State, the defending national champions and preseason No. 1 team in the country at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Arizona. McNeese State went on to go 34-21 that season. Prior to McNeese State, Smith coached for eight seasons at California Baptist where he won the NAIA National Championship in 2009, and finished in the top-six in the country all eight years, including seven years finishing inside the top-four. The Lancers won their conference championship and advanced to the NAIA World Series all eight years, and won 60 or more games in each of Smith s final four seasons, concluding with a school-record 66 wins in 2011. Smith was the interim head coach at UC Riverside prior to his time at California Baptist, and in the four years prior to that he served as head coach at Biola, where he won one league title, had a 50-win season and a 10th-place finish at the NAIA World Series. In 2011, he served as the head coach of the USA team that played in the Prague International Softball Championships. A graduate of The Master s College in Santa Clarita, California, Smith was a two-time all-district pitcher on the college baseball team and went on to play in the St. Louis Cardinals organization, reaching the Class AA level. He also played for a number of independent league teams from 1994 to 2001. Smith was a Western Baseball League Pitcher of the Year with the Mission Viejo (Calif.) team in both 1997 and 1998, and in 2000 was the MVP of the WBL championship series with the St. George team. Smith also served as a pitching coach for the Biola baseball team from 1996-1998, and was a teacher and coach at Heritage Christian School in Anaheim, California, from 1993-96, where he was head coach for baseball and boys and girls basketball teams, an assistant coach in football and an assistant athletic director. A San Diego native, Smith and his wife, Ellen, have two children, Ashlee and Tyler.
