The Series The Sooners carry a 38-14-1 all-time series advantage. The two teams have had an interesting past two seasons against one another. At the 2007 NCAA Central Region championship, the two squads tied at 195.925, but Oklahoma advanced to the NCAA Championships via a tiebreaker. Head Coach Jay Ronayne Jay Ronayne is in his third year as head gymnastics coach at Iowa State. Ronayne piloted the Cyclones to NCAA regional appearances in his first two seasons at Iowa State. He has led the Cyclones to.1 of a point from being Big 12 champions and a tie-breaker from advancing to the NCAA Championships. In 2008, Ronayne had his injuryriddled, young squad in the lead of the Big 12 Championships with only one competitor remaining. It took a 9.950 on the vault from Oklahoma s 2008 Big 12 Gymnast of the Year Kiara Redmond-Sturms to wrestle the league crown away from the Cyclones by.1 of a point. In 2007, Ronayne led ISU to the NCAA Central Regional in his first season at the helm. Only a tie-breaker procedure prevented the Central Regional co-runners-up from advancing to the NCAA Championships. Ronayne coached All-American Janet Anson in 2007, the eighth All-American he s tutored in his 19-year collegiate coaching career. Ronayne was named head coach at ISU July 5, 2006 after four seasons as the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Auburn. Ronayne s time at Auburn was the most productive period in school history. The Tigers competed in four consecutive NCAA Regional Championships (2003-06), one NCAA Championship (2003) and produced three All-Americans in his four years. Prior to Auburn, Ronayne was the top assistant at West Virginia University, where the team won eight conference titles in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League, 13 NCAA Regional appearances and three NCAA Championship appearances. He coached four All-Americans, seven individual qualifiers, two NCAA Regional champions and 20 conference champions. He was named the 1992 NCAA Southeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year. A graduate of Massachusetts, Ronayne received a bachelor s degree in English. Ronayne is Mary Ronayne, who is the Iowa State director of gymnastics operations. CYCLONES ON THE WEB Live video feed and/or live stats will be available for every Iowa State home soccer game this season at Cyclones.com and the Clone Zone. Beauty and the Beast, a Record-Breaking Night The crowd of 7,224 eclipsed the previous Cyclone attendance mark of 3,429 set Jan. 19, 2007 against Nebraska. The previous high also marked the Hilton Coliseum debut for ISU coach Jay Ronayne. Maccani s Night Was a Beauty Senior Ceilia Maccani scored a career-high 9.925 on the bars against Minnesota. Her score was the highest a Cyclone has tallied on any event this season and makes her only the ninth Cyclone to ever record a 9.925 or better on bars. Maccani s score also places her in a tie for the fourth-highest mark in program history. Maccani s bars effort, along with her solid vault (9.800) and beam (9.775) against Minnesota showings earned her the Marie-Rae Sopper Outstanding Performance Award that goes to the Iowa State gymnast whose performance inspires and captivates the Cyclone coaches, teammates and fans. Fantastic Finish on Floor Iowa State closed out the Beauty and Beast meet in grand form. The Cyclones sent the record crowd home happy with a 49.225 on floor, which tied for the 16th-highest tally on the apparatus in program history. It also stands as the highest tally ISU has scored on any event this season. Top-25 Gauntlet The Cyclones have faced a schedule filled with top-25 sqauds. Iowa State has met No. 25 Iowa, No. 18 Minnesota, No. 16 Michigan, No. 13 Missouri, No. 12 Nebraska and No. 5 Auburn so far this season. Thompson a Consistent Force on Floor Senior Jasmine Thompson has scored lower than a 9.850 on floor on only one occasion this season, and it was a 9.800. Ranked 13th nationally, Thompson has scored as high as 9.900 on the event. The McDonald, Ohio, native scored her second 9.900 of the season to close out the Beauty and the Beast meet. Injured Barnes Junior all-arounder Megan Barnes will be out of the Cyclone lineup for the foreseeable future. After a shaky start, Iowa State put together a pair of 48.775s on beam and floor. The Cyclones also saw career performances out of junior Megan Barnes, senior Celia Maccani and junior Anna Robey. We had half of a meet tonight, said Iowa State head coach Jay Ronayne. The second half was exactly what we expected and the first half was the exact opposite. We know we are much better on vault and bars than we showed. Barnes was rewarded for her solid effort by being named the Marie-Rae Sopper Outstanding Performance Award that goes to the Iowa State gymnast whose performance inspires and captivates the Cyclone coaches, teammates and fans. Iowa State opened on vault where Barnes paced the Cyclones with a 9.725 as ISU tallied a 47.800. The Tigers countered with a 48.725 on bars, led by Alicia Hatcher s 9.825. The two squads switched events for the second rotation as Iowa State moved to bars and Missouri was on vault. The Cyclones scored a 47.825 as Barnes career-high 9.800 gathered top honors and senior Ashley Kent was close behind with a 9.750. The Tigers posted a 48.900 with Sarah Shire s 9.875 leading the way for Missouri. The third rotation pitted the Cyclones on balance beam and the Tigers on floor exercise. Missouri put up a 48.825 on floor, as Adrianne Perry led the Tigers with a 9.875. Barnes and Maccani took top honors with 9.825s, a career best for Maccani. The score matched Barnes career high. Those two scores helped Iowa State tally a 48.775. ISU closed out its season opener on floor, while Missouri was on beam. Behind a 9.850 from senior Jasmine Thompson and a 9.800 from Robey, the Cyclones tallied a 48.775. The Tigers countered with a 48.600 on beam. Barnes led Iowa State in the all-around with a 38.975 while Shire took the all-around title with a 39.350. We improved a lot but we have a ways to go, said Iowa State head coach Jay Ronayne. We gave away a lot of tenths on a lot of landings on all the events. But, I m pleased with the way we are progressing. Iowa State (0-2; 0-2 Big 12) opened on vault while Nebraska (1-1; 1-0 Big 12) was on bars. The Cyclones tallied a 48.350 with junior Megan Barnes scoring a teamhigh 9.775. ISU improved its point total by nearly one half of a point from its season-opening score (47.800) on vault. The Cornhuskers took the early lead off a 48.850 buoyed by a pair of 9.825s. For the second rotation, the Cyclones transitioned to bars and the Cornhuskers competed on vault. Iowa State closed the gap on the Cornhuskers with a quality showing as the Cyclones tallied a 48.925 and Nebraska put together a 48.825 on vault. Iowa State was led by a pair of 9.850s from senior Jasmine Thompson and junior Jody McKellar, as the duo tied for the event crown. McKellar notched a career best as did sophomore Jacquelyn Holmes, who tallied a 9.750. The Cyclones score bettered their season-opening score (47.825) on bars by more than one point. We hit routines on bars and that s what it comes down to, Ronayne said. It is awesome to see that in public because that s what we ve been doing in practice every day. On beam, Iowa State scored a 48.750 behind a season-best 9.825 from Thompson. The Cornhuskers put distance between themselves and ISU behind a 49.025 on the floor. After three rotations, the score stood at 146.700-146.025. To close out the meet, the Cyclones scored a 48.750 on floor. Junior Katie Sweetin led ISU with a season-high 9.825 and Thompson was close behind with a 9.800. McKellar s effort earned her the Marie-Rae Sopper Outstanding Performance Award that goes to the Iowa State gymnast whose performance inspires and captivates the Cyclone coaches, teammates and fans. Barnes paced the Cyclones in the all-around with a 38.825 as Nebraska s Kylie Stone took the title with a 39.350. The No. 18 Iowa State gymnastics team posted its highest score of the season at No. 6 Auburn. The Tigers, however, put together an impressive performance, bettering the Cyclones, 196.275-195.225 at the Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. Senior Jasmine Thompson scored her season-best all-around score with a 39.300, highlighted by a careerbest 9.900 on beam. Thompson s performance on beam was the highest score on any event by a Cyclone this campaign. Iowa State head coach Jay Ronayne saw some other things he liked as well from his squad, especially in its first road test. We improved in areas, but we still have some wrinkles that need to be ironed out, he said. There was a nice, loud crowd tonight and that helps prepare us for championships. It s the kind of thing we want to train for and this was one step along the way. The Cyclones started the meet strong, posting a season-best 49.000 on bars to take the early lead. Auburn tallied a 48.950 on vault. Iowa State s score also was the highest tally it has posted on any event this campaign. Iowa State was buoyed by a career-high-tying 9.850 by senior Ceilia Maccani. The Cyclones also saw solid scores from Thompson (9.825) and junior Jody McKellar (9.825). In the second rotation, Iowa State (0-3) moved to vault where the Cyclones posted a season-high 48.750. Freshman Michelle Browning pushed ISU with a careerhigh 9.825. Despite the Cyclones improved effort, Auburn (2-2) scored a 49.075 on bars to take a 98.025-97.750 lead at the midway point. The Cyclones moved to floor for the third rotation, while Auburn was on vault. Iowa State s 48.600 could not match the Tigers impressive 49.125 which saw Auburn s A.J. Mills score a 9.975. Mills score was the third-highest beam score in Auburn history. ISU was led by Thompson s season-high-tying 9.850. After three rotations, Iowa State trailed 147.150-146.350. Iowa State posted a season-best 48.875 on beam to close out the competition highlighted by Thompson s 9.900. The Tigers were on floor and tallied a 49.125. In the all-around, Thompson took third with her 39.300 and the Tigers Lindsey Puckett took the title with a 39.525.

The No. 18 Iowa State gymnastics team fell at No. 20 Michigan 195.875-193.900 as the Wolverines registered their season-best score by over a point. Despite the setback, the Cyclones finished strong on beam, scoring a season-best 49.000. It marks the second time ISU has scored a 49.000 on an event this season. On the apparatus, Iowa State saw career bests from senior Ceilia Maccani (9.850) and freshman Michelle Browning (9.800), while junior Megan Barnes tied her career high with a 9.825. Maccani s performance gave her the event title, while Barnes and senior Jasmine Thompson (9.825) were involved in a five-way tie for second place. The Wolverines (8-2) hadn t been their usual selves out of the gate this season but were back to their traditional scores Saturday. Michigan has reached 16- straight NCAA Championships and won 15 Big Ten titles in the past 17 seasons. A pair of Cyclone seniors had strong showings as Thompson registered a 39.200 in the all-around. Maccani had a career high on beam and a season high on vault, in addition to taking home the beam title. The Cyclones started on bars while the Wolverines opened on vault. Thompson paced the Cyclones with a 9.775 as Iowa State posted a 48.650, while Michigan registered a 48.675 to take the early lead. Last season s team MVP Nikki Dilbert made her bars season debut, scoring a 9.675. The second rotation pitted Iowa State on vault and Michigan on bars. ISU (0-4) started strong on the event as Dilbert (9.800), Thompson (9.750) and Maccani (9.750) scored season bests. Despite the strong start, the Cyclones posted a 48.200 and the Wolverines showed why they were ranked 12th on bars, scoring a 49.050. Michigan took a 97.725-96.850 lead at the midway point. Iowa State tallied a 48.050 on floor in the third rotation as Thompson scored her third 9.850 of the season. Michigan distanced itself from Iowa State as the Wolverines scored a 48.950 on beam to take a 146.675-144.900 lead with one rotation left. The final rotation saw the Cyclones strong performance on beam while Michigan posted an impressive 49.200 on floor. Michigan s Sarah Curtis garnered the all-around title with a 39.400. The No. 20 Iowa State gymnastics team led for three events in the Sports Pavilion, but a 49.075 by No. 18 Minnesota on floor in the final rotation was enough to let the Gophers slip past the Cyclones 195.775-195.225. ISU notched its season-best-tying score despite the setback. The Cyclones opened strong on bars while the Gophers nearly matched ISU on vault. Iowa State took a 48.850-48.725 lead, buoyed by senior Jasmine Thompson s 9.800 and junior Nikki Dilbert s season-best 9.775. Iowa State continued its run of form on vault as the Cyclones scored a season-best 48.975, bettering the previous high by.225. ISU saw a series of impressive performances led by Megan Barnes career-best-tying 9.900. Maccani (9.775) and McKellar (9.800) notched season-high efforts, while Thompson (9.750) tied her best of the campaign. The Gophers were nearly as impressive on bars as they notched a 48.925. At the midway point, Iowa State held a 97.825-97.650 edge. Floor proved to be the best score the Cyclones have registered on an event all season with their 49.075. Thompson and Browning put up a pair of 9.900s, marking the first time a Cyclone posted a 9.900 on floor since Dilbert s performance against Stanford (Feb. 10, 2008). Thompson tied her career high while Browning registered a new career best. The duo also shared the event crown. The Cyclones (0-5) received a welcome addition from McKellar who competed on the event for the first time in her career. The Calgary, Alberta native registered a 9.800 in her debut. Despite Iowa State s stellar performance, the Cyclones barely stretched their lead on the Gophers as Minnesota (2-3) scored a 49.050 on beam. After three rotations, Iowa State was out in front, 146.900-146.700. The Cyclones could not continue their momentum on beam in the final rotation, posting a 48.325, while the Gophers went 49.075 on floor. Iowa State saw the third impressive performance from Browning as the Houston, Texas native tallied a career-high 9.875. Browning s effort garnered her a tie for first place on the event. Thompson (9.775) and McKellar (9.750) had solid scores to roundout their strong evenings. In the all-around, Minnesota s Alexis Russell won the title with a 39.375. Thompson came in third with a 39.225, her second highest score of the campaign. McKellar s first career all-around effort proved to be solid, as she scored a 39.100. The three final Cyclone floor competitors (junior Anna Robey, freshman Michelle Browning and senior Jasmine Thompson) scored 9.850, 9.900 and 9.875 respectively, to close the night out. The furious finish gave the Cyclones a 48.825 on floor while the Hawkeyes tallied a 47.800 on beam. However, the Hawkeyes did just enough to squeak out the win. The way we ended the meet is what we need to get done for the entire night, said Iowa State head coach Jay Ronayne. However, we need to set it up by hitting on all the events in the first place. Freshman Michelle Browning took home the Marie- Rae Sopper Outstanding Performance Award which goes to the Iowa State gymnast whose performance inspires and captivates the Cyclone coaches, teammates and fans. Browning won the floor title with her 9.900. The Cyclones opened on vault while their instate rivals competed on bars. The first ISU competitor for the evening, senior Ceilia Maccani, got the Cyclones their desired start with a career-high-tying 9.825 and junior Megan Barnes added a 9.800. Maccani s effort gave her a first-place tie on the event. Iowa State took a slim 48.775-48.725 after the first rotation. The two teams swapped events as the Cyclones went to bars while the Hawkeyes rotated to vault. Iowa inched past Iowa State at the midway point, outscoring the Cyclones 48.825-48.600 in the second rotation. Thompson led Iowa State on bars with a 9.775. Halfway through the meet, Iowa led narrowly, 97.550-97.375. The third rotation pitted ISU (0-6) on beam, while Iowa (7-3) was competing on floor. The Cyclones were forced to count a pair of falls on beam as they scored a 47.600. Barnes took top honors for the Cyclones with a 9.800. On floor, Iowa scored a strong 49.025 to take a 146.575-144.975 edge. Ronayne feels the lack of consistency on all events is what is plaguing his squad. It is the most frustrating part of this sport, he said. We need to get the job done when it needs to get done. I need gymnasts that step up and deliver.

It was the second matchup in the Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series for the two teams in a five-day span. Jennifer Salfen used a season-high 9.800 to claim the vault crown, and Jasmine Thompson scored a 9.850 to take home the top spot on beam. A couple missteps on floor ultimately cost the Cyclones. Our first four on floor have been working with injuries and have had very little practice time and their scores reflect that, Iowa State head coach Jay Ronayne said. I was really encouraged by the way Jasmine (Thompson) and Michelle (Browning) didn t let that affect them and performed their routines. The Cyclones were without all-arounder Megan Barnes who missed the meet with an injury. Missing Megan in there really hurts. Half of each rotation is going great, but the other half lacks consistency, Ronayne said. The scores will come as the girls can get more time in the gym and gain that consistency we are looking for. Iowa State posted a 48.725 on bars to start the meet, jumping out to an early.175 lead, the team s biggest advantage of the season. Ashley Kent set a season high with a 9.775, a score that was matched by Ceilia Maccani. Jody McKellar added a 9.750 and Jacquelyn Holmes put up a 9.725 for the Cyclones. Iowa scored 48.550 on vault, led by Jenifer Simbhudas 9.800. Vault proved to be another solid rotation for the Cyclones, as they notched a 48.700 on the apparatus. Salfen s 9.800 claimed a share of the event title with Iowa s Simbhudas. Nikki Dilbert added a 9.775 and Maccani scored a 9.750 for ISU. Iowa scored a 48.800 on bars to pull within 97.425-97.350. Thompson paced the Cyclones with a 9.850 on floor in the third rotation. Browning added a 9.775 as Iowa State scored 47.950 in the rotation. Iowa put up a 48.375 on beam to take a 145.725-145.375 lead into the final rotation. Thompson s 9.850 led a solid 48.625 Cyclone effort on beam. McKellar tied her career high with a 9.825, while Kent set a season high with a 9.800. Maccani also tallied a 9.800 for ISU. That proved to fall just short, as Iowa scored a 48.950 on floor to secure the meet title. The Cyclones increased their lead with one rotation remaining to a 145.375-144.550 advantage. The Cyclones washed away any worries in the final rotation, scoring a season-best 49.225 on floor.
