Transcription:

The diving Forget the Great Barrier Reef, the Red Sea, Thailand and the Philippines Komodo BEATS it! The crystal clear waters of Komodo National Park are home to over 1.000 species of fish, and more than 350 reef building corals and is selected as one of the 7 Wonders of Nature. Be overwhelmed by the explosion of colors and shapes during relaxing drift dives or swimming through monumental boulders. Look up and around for manta rays and, if real lucky dolphins. Drop down next to huge seamounts and pinnacles or explore the protected bays and inlets for really weird and rare macro marine life.... We could write so much about the diving here, and why we think you should do it. It is one of those places that most serious divers has on their to-do list. Google it, check out the photos and rest assured that if you go to this part of Indonesia without doing a few dives here, you will be kicking your bum later on in life (or other knowing underwater ambassadors will!) But... we are divers, not preachers! So we leave the decision completely up to you. However, if diving is not enough, Komodo also offers a unique encounter with the infamous Komodo dragon the world s largest lizard. That's something too. Area name / Island name Nearest airport Labuan Bajo, Flores (via Denpasar/Bali) Season All year round. Best from March to January During monsoons, diving activities take part at the more sheltered parts of Komodo National Park. Center type PADI Dive Centre Experience level PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent. On the liveaboard, you will reach a few dive sites that has some current and depth. You therefore need to be certified Advanced Diver in order to join Minimum age for participation 12 Years

Location When going diving in Komodo National Park, You have 2 choices. You can go on a day boat, diving the sites to and from the park... Or you can go on a liveaboard and STAY out at the National Park for all your dives AND for the nights as well. It is by far the best way to experience the diving and the islands! This way, you'll get to do the absolute best dive sites for all your dives, without having to consider the long sail back and forth from Labuan Bajo. Just Perfect! Your boat Is the coolest! The Ikan Biru is a pretty and modernised version of a traditional Indonesian Pinisi wooden sailing boat. Sleeping a maximum of just 7 guests with a spacious upper deck for you to relax, dine and sleep under the stars... in absolute comfort! The two below-deck guest bathrooms are fitted with hot fresh-water showers. The liveaboard is equipped with modern marine safety equipment and an extremely experienced sailing and dive crew in accordance with marine tourism guidelines. When your day s diving is complete, there are stand up paddle boards (SUP) for you to explore the clear shallow waters around the deserted islands of Komodo National Park. Your bed On the boat: In the evening, the upper deck will be re-build into a comfortable sleeping area, with comfy private beds. You will be lulled to sleep by the ocean and the stars. On land: Your last night will be on land, in a clean and comfortable dorm room. A/C and hot water is included.

This is only a selection of the many dive sites represented on this particular destination. The diving is dictated by the safeness of the environment. Castle Rock This is truly and exhilarating dive and one of Komodo s absolute highlights. The top of the dive site is submerged at a depth of 5m. The dive begins as a negative entry. A zig-zag profil is often used to explore the site. At 25m reef sharks and trevallies frequently pass by and at even greater depths you come face to face with large grey reef sharks cruising by, at the top of the food chain. Currents can be strong and sometimes you perch to a rock and watch the show of big schools of black surgeon fish, tuna, trevallies and hawksbill turtles pass by. A true marine showcase! Batu Bolong A tiny rocky islet located at the centre of the ocean passage between Tatawa and Komodo island. When Descending into the clear waters you can t help but notice that absolutely every square inch of the reef is covered with life. Spotted and oriental sweetlips congregate at the table corals waiting to be cleaned while large groupers patrol cautiously back and forth. In the deeper waters of the blue, pelagic life such as napoleons wrasses, sharks, giant trevally and surgeonfish are scouting for food. Overall a truly amazing site where your 60min dive time is over before you know it. The Cauldron/ Gili Lawa Laut Passage The small passage of Gili Lawa and Gili Lawa Darat is best attempted on a falling tide when the currents are down. The beautiful wall drops to 25m with scattered coral bommies on the sandy ocean floor. Slowly drifting into the passage stunning coral bommie appear, covered with gorgonian fans, table corals and stands of Acropora, engulfed in clouds of glassfish. Remember to look up for the occasional manta ray somersaulting gracefully as they feed in the current. This is a dive site where you can never predict what marine life you ll experience. Conditions: --------------------------Visibility 15m - 30m Water temperature normally 25-29 C Average 27 C Current Mild to strong currents, sheltered bays with no current. Depths 5m - 40m Average is 18m Special marine life Manta rays, whales, dolphins, sharks, dugongs, turtles, bumphead parrotfish, barracudas, eagle rays, giant trevally, seahorses, stargazers and frogfish... All Marine UHmmness

Transfer The easy way to get to Komodo is by plane from Bali (DPS) to Labuan Bajo (LBJ). It s a 1 hour flight over some of the most beautiful scenery in Indonesia. Daily departures start from around 08:00 o clock and end between 12:00 and 16:30 in the afternoon. Tickets are often EUR 40-75 for a one-way ticket. The dive centre can help book the flight ticket, as Indonesian airlines rarely accept international credit cards. If you want to book yourself though, we recommend using the tickets Indonesia website. They only charge a small fee for the plane tickets. Also, the new airline, Sky Aviation, accepts international credit cards when booking flights. From Labuan Bajo airport it s a 10min taxi drive to the dive centre. Price is around rp50.000 if you take the taxi or rp15.000 if using on of the many public vans. Alternatively, you can try the slow ferry, departing from Benoa (Bali), which sails directly to Labuan Bajo harbor. It s a long trip and the schedule can change without warning.
