IGSSA BASKETBALL Well done to the Junior teams this week on winning three out of four games at Penrhos College. The A team were just pipped at the post by four points, while the B team narrowly took the victory by two points. Emy Booth was fouled out with ten minutes remaining in the game, but managed to impact on the game and Caitlin Thacker top scored t put the team in good stead for the remainder of the season. The C and D team annilhilated their opposition on the outside courts at Penrhos, which inevitably helped build some confidence and belief within the group. Ava Logue and Madison Marshall impacted the scoreboard for the A team, while Hannah Porter and Elizabeth Daubney created a strong presence for on defence. IGSSA SOCCER Well done to the Junior A team for winning their first game against Penrhos College this week. The team has a strong list of contributors and all managed to helped solidify the win over their opponents on Penrhos home turf. The A team is also lucky enough to have former Australian representative and current junior Australian coach, Tanya Oxtoby coaching their team. Coach Oxtoby was blown away by player and student, Lexi Njirich, who presented a signed sweat band at training this week. This signed band had special significance Coach Oxtoby had actually taken the band off (years earlier) after a game she had played with the Perth Glory and given it to a young fan in the crowd. This young fan happened to be Lexi Njirich, who now has the good fortune of being coach by such an incredible athlete and coach. This is just a small indication of the level of talent and experience Coach Oxtoby brings to and it speaks volumes for the kind of respect students and athletes have for her. With this of combination in our Junior teams, is sure to walk away with some serious victories this season. YEAR 8 WORLD CUP UPDATE... In another spectacular display of soccer this week, the World Cup continues to gain momentum as teams begin to make their mark on the tournament. In the PADHENCAM Conference, Columbia are surging forward in the race to the Championship game, with Scotland being the closest rivals so far. Chile has had a productive week and managed to leapfrog the Netherlands after shutting down Mexico. However, the Netherlands beat Chile by one goal, but then lost to top team, Columbia in a three to one showdown on centre court. Mikayla Morrison played another excellent round for Columbia and Ashleigh Hamburger led Scotland s assault on Team USA. In the CLAPJOHSHIP Conference, Italy maintains a narrow lead of Germany and Portugal. Competition for minor champions remains hot, so stayed tuned for the World Cup segment in the newsletter each week.
