Time: All Day Off To The NCAA Championships Four Puget Sound swimmers have received their invitation to the 2009 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships as Paul Hughes (Ruston, Wash./Curtis), Bret Schluederberg (Chapel Hill, N.C.), Garrett Gentling (Shoreline, Wash./Shorewood) and Jackson Kowalski (Keizer, Wash./McNary) will be packing their bags for a trip to Minneapolis, Minn. for the meet on Mar. 18-21. The quartet of Loggers all received their invitations after their time in the 200 yard Medley Relay was taken as the 11th-best in the country. Hughes had already earned his ticket to the national championships with an A-cut in the 100 Breast back on Dec. 5 at the Husky Invitational but the other three had to wait until Friday to find out for sure if they would be making the trip. The four swimmers will also be eligible to compete in any other event in which they recorded a B-cut qualifying time. Besides the 200 Medley Relay, the four swimmers are expected to compete in the 200 Freestyle Relay, as well as the 400 Medley Relay and possibly the 400 Freestyle Relay. Individually, Hughes is expected to swim the 200 Breast in addition to the 100 Breast and the relays. Schluederberg is qualified to swim in the 50 Freestyle if he chooses while Gentling is expected to swim in the 100 Back as well. Kowalski, the lone junior going for the Loggers, is eligible to swim in the 100 Fly, 100 Back and 200 Back The meet is scheduled for March 18-21 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minn. and will be hosted by Macalester College.
