END OF SEASON INTER CLUB SWIM RUN RELAYS & MARTIN LEE MEMORIAL SWIM We would like to invite you and your club to our special end of season open water swim and swim run events on Saturday 24 th September. As well as celebrating another fantastic summer of open water and multisport swimming at Vobster Quay, we will also be raising funds for Cancer Research through these events, so the more who take part and fund raise the more we will help support this great charity s vital work. The day starts mid morning with demo swims with Aquasphere, a great chance to have a look/test Aqua Sphere s new range of swim wetsuits and goggles. Then chaos begins at 12:30 with solo or teams of 3 taking on our interclub Swim / Run Challenge event (3 x 750m swim / 5km runs). The afternoon events conclude with the Martin Lee Memorial Swim in which swimmers swim 1k up to 5km. In addition, to the buzz of these endurance events, we will have live music throughout, a bar and relaxed social BBQ so you and your friends and families can chill out and enjoy some great food and drink on the quayside. For those wishing to make a weekend of it, you can camp over on site in a free camp site and on Sunday 25 th September athletes can enter the Mells Scenic 7 Trial Run event.

Aqua Sphere are also providing swim caps and prizes for all those taking part in the Swim Run Challenge Event. SWIM RUN CHALLENGE EVENT Race solo or as a relay team of 3 in our swim and run event. Each solo or relay athlete will swim 3 x 750m swim / 5km run. Solo athletes will be allowed to swim with shortie wetsuits / trisuits, can swim in running shoes and may use pull buoys throughout the event. Team relay athletes must transition out of wetsuits for the run leg. This is a fantastic opportunity for Club members to race as a team head to head with other club members and against other local clubs. The team relay format is becoming more and more popular and is accessible for all levels of ability. It s fast and furious and great fun to be part of as well as being a spectator. Solo and team entry is 15 with all profits from the event going to Cancer Research. Winning male and female solo athletes as well as the fastest relay team will receive prizes from Aqua Sphere. MARTIN LEE MEMORIAL SWIM In memory of local swimmer and triathlete Martin Lee, swimmers can swim 1km, 3km or 5km around the stunning Vobster Lake, helping to raise money for Cancer Research Charity. Entry to the Martin Lee Memorial Swim is 20 which includes a high quality silicon swim cap, swim, swim safety, a BBQ voucher and a guaranteed donation to Cancer Research. LIVE MUSIC At last year s Memorial Swim we had live music on the quayside at Vobster for the first time, with an amazing acoustic and for this event in 2016 we have two live acts performing from 1600 into the evening. Tamsin Quin is a singer / songwriter gaining a growing reputation for her original lyrics and haunting acoustic charm. And the Guitar Lai Lamas will be funkin it up with the own original and cover performances. BBQ & BAR In addition to the usual Vobster catering there will be a BBQ and full bar available, providing for all your refreshment needs. Additional BBQ tickets can be purchased via the TAG system, whilst the bar is a cash bar only. SPECTATORS & FRIENDS Spectators and friends are very welcome to the event and simply sign in with a quayside tag. Additional BBQ vouchers can be purchased on the day.. FREE ON SITE CAMPING Free camping can be booked in advance or at the event, in the event field by the main entrance. This will be serviced with portaloo facilities and drinking water, showering and additional toilet facilities will be available on site during site opening. All we ask is that you don t have any open fires and that you take your litter home. VENUE TRIbal Triathlon / Vobster Quay is a premier open water swimming and multisport venue hidden in rural Somerset. Boasting a stunning 1km open water swimming lake, with crystal clear waters and a full range of facilities. Vobster Quay is approx. 10mile from the City of Bath for Sat Nav: Vobster Quay, Upper Mells, Nr Radstock. BA3 5SD. The site is signed from the main roads with brown and white venue signs. Travelling to Vobster Quay Vobster Quay is located in the heart of the beautiful Somerset countryside approximately 5 miles from the market town of Frome and 4 miles from Radstock. With easy access from the M4 and M5, finding us is easy...
ARRIVAL & PARKING On arrival head down the gravel track to the main entrance gate sheds. Please sign in at the sheds, collect your entrance Tag and then head as directed to park in the Upper Car Park. Walk down the ramp and you will see the event HQ marquee and registration directly in front of you. For those arriving later for the memorial swim, please be aware of swim runners racing on the course. SWIM COURSE The swim course for the swim run event will be the normal 750m swim course in a clockwise rotation. For the memorial swim, the swim course will be extended to a 1km course. The swims will start with a deep water mass start. For the swim run solo and relay 2 nd and 3 rd swims will start with a water entry from the pontoon. If you are an experienced swimmer you may dive in, if not we suggest a feet first entry, to keep your goggles on. Swim Course Large high viz marker buoys mark the swim course. Swim the set course clockwise, keeping the first 4 buoys on your right as you turn and 5 th buoy on your left before turning to the finish or start of your laps. START / FINISH Open Water Swim 750m Swim Course Open Water Swim / Run Safety It is your responsibility to make sure that t you are of a suitably fitness to enter the event distance you have chosen and that you are in good health on the day of the swim. You are advised not to swim if you have been ill or seriously injured in the days leading up to the event or if your GP has advised you against taking part in physical exercise for medical reasons. You must wear a suitable swim wetsuit and issued swim cap. During the swim we will have land based spotters, if you get into difficulty, roll onto your back, raise your arm and call for assistance, a safety boat will be launched to provide assistance. RUN COURSE The Swim Run run route leads out of the Vobster venue onto relatively quiet country roads. On the run please DO NOT CROSS THE ROAD, keep to the side of the road as instructed during the briefing and take care when passing other athletes. It is your responsibility to run safely on the roads and to move in if required to, to allow safe passing of traffic and other runners etc. Please listen and respond to any Marshal instructions and under no circumstances should any runners wear headphones of any kind whilst on the run route.
