Tingira s Treasure Chest A place for members to share their reflections, memories and reminisces of their time in the Southern Moreton Bay Islands. All of which are worth so much more than any amount of gold bullion Please share your treasures by sending them to pfox54@bigpond com or contact 0417 841 009 Submissions are very welcome. By Chance By chance, I found Macleay on Moreton Bay, An island of tranquility. Its inhabitants were gentile folk, the essence of sociability. Its waters calmed in Stradbroke s lee, The shores lined with cottonwood and mangrove tree. In its bush land, birdlife abounds, Filled with magpie and kookaburra sounds. In Island traffic you drive in peace, Giving way to curlews, ducks and geese. Then to reach your residential, Just drive along High Central on to Kate. Turn down the dusty street and drive slowly to your gate. Your neighbours also come by chance From England, Ireland, Switzerland or France. To tell their stories and many tales, or maybe they just moved from New South Wales. It s not a melting pot of people Found or lost, rather a gathering of gentle folk in a salad lightly tossed. It was the sea that brought them here, The gentle folk that made them stay. Welcomed by the sunrise over Straddie And the sunsets across the bay. So let the island life enfold you Join the artists and the potters, The golfers and the bowlers, Go sailing in anything that floats. However I ve been told, You cannot call yourself an Islander Until you've owned four boats. Poem by Keith Fox This week s submission is a poem from Club member Keith Fox who reflects on his luck of finding his Island home.! 4 Tingira boat club newsletter 91 coast road macleay island qld 4184

Tingira Big Boat Sailing Events Planned for 2018 This year we plan to have a series of four sailing events for big boats culminating in the Calvert Memorial Sailing Event. The course for the proposed sailing events will be similiar to that used for the Calvert Memorial Sailing Event held in October. Each event will have seperate awards but we intend having an overall series winner using the best three results out of the four. That way, participating crews are encouraged to sail the entire series but are able to miss sailing in one of the events or drop their lest favourable result. The Calvert Memorial Sailing Event will still be sailed as a seperate event but the result also included in the overall series. Awards for the events will be presented at the The Calvert Memorial Dinner. Owner / skippers of yachts interested in taking part should put the dates below in their diaries. Further information regarding the course details and start times will be published in the near future. Proposed Tingira Big Boat Series Dates: Event 1 Sunday 25 March (Start time 11:00am TBC) Event 2 Event 3 Event 4 Saturday 05 May (Start time 11:00am TBC) Saturday 15 September (Start time 11:00am TBC) Saturday 13 October (Calvert Memorial Sailing Event)(Start time 11:00am A notice of the event and event details and nomination forms will be published shortly.
