Regional Bursary Scheme 2018/19 What is the Swim England South East Bursary Scheme? In order to reduce some of the financial burden experienced by individuals when undertaking their continuous professional development, Swim England South East has made some funding available towards the cost of Swim England courses. This Scheme no longer covers Teachers From 01 May 2018 Swim England South East are no longer able to accept applications for support with Teaching qualifications. Only requests for Coaching qualifications will be processed. Who is eligible? Applicants must be from clubs with SwimMark accreditation. Applications must be supported by a statement or evidence that the applicant has been actively engaged in teaching or coaching with the club for at least 6 months and expects to continue working at the club following the training. In addition the following criteria must be met; Clubs will need to demonstrate efforts to gain funding from alternative sources All Senior Coach Programme (formerly level 3) bursaries will be reviewed and approved by the Club Development Officer Applications for ASA Tutors training will be treated as for Senior Coaches The proposed course must be recognised by the ASA and the applicant must meet the course criteria. Swim England South East has the final decision on which clubs should be subsidised, based on their progress How often can I apply? Three candidates from eligible clubs can receive a bursary award in one financial year (1 st April 2018 to 31 st March 2019) for coaching courses. Please note the year in which the bursary falls into is determined by the course date, not the date when the bursary was applied for. In addition each club is entitled to apply for one bursary per financial year towards a Senior Coach (formerly level 3) qualification. Unused bursaries will not be carried over. How much funding is available? Awards will be made to off-set the cost of training and examinations. Maximum bursaries are: Swim England Assistant Coach (Previously Level 1) courses 50% Swim England Coach (Previously Level 2) courses 66% Swim England Senior Coach (Previously Level 3) courses 75%. These bursaries will also support those candidates up-skilling from an old qualification to a new qualification/ Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
How are applications made? Applications for a bursary should be submitted by email, with both the applicant and club chairman completing the relevant parts of the application form. ONLY FULLY COMPLETED FORMS WILL BE PROCESSED, those with any information missing will be rejected. Your fully completed application MUST be received and approved BEFORE you book on the course. NO RETROSPECTIVE FUNDING WILL BE AWARDED. The bursary is provided in the form of a voucher code which is to be redeemed on the Institute of Swimming website when booking on to the course. Completed forms and supporting documents can be scanned and emailed to bryony.gibbs@southeastswimming.org. For Senior Coach (level 3) bursaries, candidates must apply to Swim England and gain approval before applying for a regional bursary. In order to do this, candidates should apply by booking on to the Swim England Senior Coach Certificate Application Stage. Following this, the candidate s applications will be reviewed and if successful the candidate will receive an invitation for the programme course. A copy of this invite should be submitted with the bursary application. Please contact cathy.innes@swimming.org for further information on the Senior Coach programme. When are bursaries awarded? All applications will be acknowledged by email, notifying the candidate and the club chairman of the Region s decision. For Assistant Coach (Level 1) if successful, the candidate will receive up to the value of 50% of the course cost. Candidates will receive an email with a voucher code to the value of 50% of the course cost. This voucher code is then used when booking the course via www.theiosonline.com. For Coach (Level 2) if successful, the candidate will receive up to 66% of the course cost. Candidates will receive an email with a voucher code to the value of 66% of the course cost. This voucher code is then used when booking the course via www.theiosonline.com. For Senior Coach, if successful, the candidate will receive an email confirming with a voucher code for half of the funding. This voucher code is then used when booking the course via www.theiosonline.com. The remaining funding will be paid to the club on completion of the course. Please note the voucher codes will be unique to the candidate and the course they state at the time of application and are not transferable to any other person or course. Can a club put several applicants through at the same time? Multiple applications will be accepted provided each candidate has completed a separate form.
