Race Results and Report Duathlon Series Race 1 3 December 2017 The first duathlon of the 2017/18 season took place on 3 December with a great turnout of 55 competitors across the age categories despite the very early start. For many it was their first multisport race event and judging by the smiles coming over the finish line it won t be their last. Weather wise, whilst it stayed dry for most of the morning there were a couple of brief showers and the cycle track was wet so Tristars had to be careful whilst out on the bike and thankfully there were no incidents with all competitors completing the bike section safely. With this being the first race of the season there was a lot of pressure on the bike checking team to ensure all bikes had been appropriately restricted for the age categories many thanks to Jerry and Mark for getting through so many bikes in such a short amount of time. For future races we will spot check bikes rather than go through all of them, therefore it is important you let a coach or race official know if your bike has been altered since it was last checked so we can ensure it is race compliant. The morning s racing got underway with Tristars 1 with a field of 18. Newcomer Teddy du Putron putting in a strong effort to take the win in the boy s race after a very even tussle with Issac Thompson second, just two seconds behind, and Scott Storey in third. The girl s race came down to a gripping sprint finish between Evie Worth and Saffy Butler, Saffy taking the win with less than a 10 th of a second between them as they crossed the line. Hannah Sterry was third girl Next up Tristars 2, 3 and Youth were racing at the same time, running a 1500m full lap of the track followed by 4 laps on the bike for TS2 and 5 to TS3 and Youth. The race finished with the 800m circuit over the grass. This was a busy race with 30 competitors in field at the same time. For TS2 boys Luke Holmes took the win despite some excellent running from Casper Whitewood and Daniel Stocke. For the girls Hannah Worth came in first with Grace Cabot and Seaena Silvester coming through in second and third places. TS3 was won by Issac Dodds with Tom Huelin putting in an impressive bike split to take second and Charlie Hart coming in third. For the girls Lily and Eva Scott both raced well to take 1 & 2. For the Youth race Jack Kennedy took with win a Harvey Butler second.
After waiting patiently, it was Tristars Start who were to have their turn with a 1,500m bike sandwiched between two 400m runs. There was an elevated level of excitement and questioning during the race brief, but all went to plan. First in for the Boys was Hugo Nowacki with George Atkinson and Ewan Ruddy coming in second and third. For the girls Romie Cole was first with Maddie Ebberll- Carroll and Tylah Tobin coming in second and third. Many thanks to all those who helped the event organisation particularly those who arrived in the dark to get registration, course and transition ready - a wonderful team effort.
