Quinnipiac and Rensselaer officially open the 2009-10 campaign Thursday, October 8 as the Bobcats visit Columbus to take on NCAA Regional participant Ohio State for a two-game set, while the Engineers travel to the Mullins Center to take on Hockey East foe Massachusetts. Four additional ECAC Hockey teams will take to the ice Friday, October 9, including St. Lawrence which travels to Omaha to face UMass.-Lowell in the Mutual of Omaha Ice Breaker Tournament hosted by the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Clarkson officially opens its 88th season in a weekend series at Munn Arena in East Lansing, versus Michigan State of the CCHA. It is the Golden Knights first-ever visit to East Lansing. Colgate begins its 34-game regular-season schedule October 9 as well as it travels to Niagara for its first of 15 road games this season. The final league team beginning play October 9 is Union, who is coming off one of its best season in school history. The Dutchmen are the first ECAC Hockey team to play host as the Maine Black Bears make its first appearance in Schenectady since 1995. Winner of three coach of the year honors last season, Keith Allain will lead defending ECAC Hockey regular-season champion and tournament champion Yale on the road Saturday, October 24 to battle intra-league rival Dartmouth in a non-league contest. League action officially begins Friday, October 30 when Dartmouth plays host to travel partner Harvard at Thompson Arena. League plays gets into full swing November 6 as all 12 teams compete in two-game sets versus league opponents. Travel-partner parings include Brown-Yale at Union-Rensselaer, Dartmouth-Harvard at Cornell-Colgate, and St. Lawrence-Clarkson at Princeton-Quinnipiac. There will be a total of seven weekends during the regular-season that will feature all 12 ECAC Hockey-member teams engaged in league play, with those being November 6-7, November 13-14, January 29-30, February 5-6, February 12-13, February 19-20, and February 26-27. Eleven of the league's 12 teams will be involved in tournaments throughout the 2009-10 campaign. In October, St. Lawrence will participate in the Mutual of Omaha Ice Breaker Tournament in Omaha, NE, Rensselaer participates in the Brice Alaska Gold Rush in Fairbanks, AK and Brown, Princeton, and Yale compete in the Ivy Showdown at Princeton. Rensselaer and Union play in the RPI Holiday Tournament, Troy, NY in November. Over the holiday season (December- January), Union represents ECAC Hockey in the UConn Tournament, Storrs, CT, Cornell and Princeton travel to the sunshine state in the Florida College Classic, Estero, FL, Rensselaer looks to claim the Great Lakes Invitational, Detroit, MI, St. Lawrence eyes the Denver Cup, Denver, CO, Colgate plays in the Shillelagh Tournament, Estates, IL, Yale has it sites on winning the Badger Hockey Showdown, Madison, WI, Clarkson ventures to Minneapolis, MN for the Dodge Holiday Classic, and Dartmouth hosts its annual Ledyard National Bank Tournament. On consecutive Monday evenings in Boston, Harvard will take place in the winter social event of the season, as it looks to capture its 11th Beanpot title. The ECAC Hockey Championship format once again features two rounds of action at campus sites. Championship play commences with first-round action March 5-7 featuring teams seeded Nos. 5-8 hosting teams seeded Nos. 9-12. The top four teams as determined by the final regular-season standings receive a first-round bye. Quarterfinals action will be held March 12-14 with the top four seeds hosting the winners of first-round action. Thursday, July 23, 2009 -- Page 2 Men s Composite Schedule The 2010 NCAA Division I Men s Ice Hockey Championship will be held in Detoit, MI from April 8th-10th at Ford Field marking the first time the event will be held in a dome. The Central Collegiate Hockey Association and the Detroit Metro Sports Commission will co-host the championship. Detroit has been the site of five previous Frozen Fours, most recently at Joe Louis Arena in 1990. Teams will be seeded in four regions: East, Midwest, Northeast, and West. The East and West Regional competitions will be held Friday-Saturday, March 26-27 at the Times Union Center, Albany, NY, and XCel Energy Center, St. Paul, MN respectively, while the Midwest and Northeast Regionals will be held Saturday-Sunday, March 27-28 at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, Fort Wayne, IN and DCU Center, Worcester, MA. The regional winners advance to the Frozen Four at Ford Field in Detroit, MI, with semifinal action taking place Thursday, April 8, and the national championship Saturday, April 10. Other schedule highlights include: Rensselaer hosting NCAA Division I Ice Hockey Tournament participant New Hampshire at Houston Field House, Saturday, October 10. Clarkson will play two games out west against 2009 WCHA Tournament Champion and NCAA Tournament participant Minnesota-Duluth October 30-31. Included in Clarkson s 34-game schedule are an away game against 2008 National Champion Boston College of HEA (November 27), and a pair of games at Cheel Arena against Alabama-Huntsville of the CHA (January 8-9). Cornell reignites a rivalry with defending National Champion Boston University in Red Hot Hockey at the World s Most Famous Arena - Madison Square Garden Saturday, November 28. The Big Red of Cornell battle the Fighting Sioux of North Dakota in a two-game series November 28-29 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. St. Lawrence will take on Hockey East foe Maine in a non-league contest in Portland, ME Sunday, November 29. Defending ECAC Hockey champions Yale will travel to Vermont Monday, November 30 attempting to avenge a NCAA Tournament loss at the hands of the Catamounts last March. Harvard travels to Minneapolis, MN for a two-game set January 8-9 against national power Minnesota Golden Gophers. One of the biggest rivalries on the calendar will take place Saturday, January 16 in Manchester, NH as Dartmouth faces-off against intrastate rival New Hampshire. Quinnipiac will welcome St. Cloud State for a two-game series January 15-16 at TD Banknorth Sports Center in Hamden, CT. Highlighting the month of January for Cornell is the two-game set against North Dakota, to be played January 22 and 23. The two teams split last year's meetings, with the Sioux winning the opener, 7-3, before Cornell took a 2-1 victory in the second game. A full composite schedule accompanies this release.
