The Scoop September/October 2018 Editor: Sally Koepke skoepke@mchalekoepke.com Letter from the President This weekend is the September equinox and with the sun heading southward, the days are becoming shorter. Fall is officially arriving and so is our fall hunt test season, just a week away. As always, the summertime raced by and it seems like we just met at the Club Singles and picnic. We had a fine day with just a sprinkle of rain and a shortage of ketchup (my apologies for that one). Congratulations to this year s trophy winners, Joe Ricupero and Frankie in the lower stake and Ryan McFarland and Hank in the upper stake. See the rest of the club singles results in the newsletter. We have started our 2019 planning, and I would like thank everyone who responded to our question about adding an additional hunt test next fall. There was overwhelming support to bring the Greater Pittsburgh Golden Retriever Club Hunt Test to the nursery, and this test will likely be the weekend before our test next fall. In addition, the board agreed to keep the weekday master-only test, but to move the test out of the busy month of June. Our first live-flyer training day was a success, even though the remnants of hurricane Gordan were around. We will look to do this event again next year. Also, our intermediate seminar with Jim Van Engen was well supported by members. We do plan on continuing to provide occasional educational seminars in the future. Do see the recap on the seminar, including some photos, in the newsletter. Hope to see you out at the nursery! Cyndi! 2

Club Singles Results: Upper Stake: 1st Ryan McFarland and Hank 2nd Eric Linger and Wake 3re Eric Goss and Diesel 4th Tim Dettmar and Ruby Lower Stake: 1st Joe Ricupero and Gracie 2nd Gale Geiger and Zivah 3rd Ryan Drake and Boomer 4th Tim Dettmar and Stormy Jim Van Engen Seminar We had two packed days of transition training techniques from Jim Van Engen of Right Start Kennel. It was fun to see how the dogs progressed from the first day to the second. We had 12 teams and 28 auditors from 5 States. A big Thank-you to John Sherman for the great snapshots! For those of you who weren t able to purchase his DVD and are interested in doing so, you can purchase it here: https://www.rightstartkennel.com/index_7.html "!3

In Memoriam Donations directed to BRC in memory of long time member and trainer Bob Reckart, were directed to be used in support of youth retriever training activities. With the donations, BRC will support the National Hunting and Fishing Day this year, held by Westlaco Sportsman s Club, in conjunction with Lake County Ducks Unlimited. This event has a youth focus and includes a retriever demonstration. In addition, BRC will establish a junior handler sponsorship program where the club will annually offer a junior handler complimentary entry to our spring hunt test. Spring 2019 will be the first year, and details will be published in the premium.
