Even though it is officially fall, there is still loads of time left to enjoy our boating way of life. Winter Solstice is not until December 21, 2018 at 5:23 ET. So there; lets get out & enjoy the cool days & cooler nights in the fall & early winter months at Green Turtle Bay, Grand Rivers, Kentucky & Barkley Lake by taking in all the fall foliage & events happening in our community. First, I want to say to the Gary family, words cannot express how sorry we are about the loss of our Bette. Our deepest sympathy goes out to you, the Gary family & her son Tom. She was the most wonderful person & will be sorely missed by all. Her presence will always be felt here at Green Turtle Bay. A very special event was held at The Commonwealth Yacht Club on August 18th with the wedding of Jim Carnahan & Sarabess Forster. The ceremony was conducted by our own Minister Suzanne Seabold. Welcome New Members! WILLIAM & KIMBERLY SNYDER, DAN BILL & MELINDA COMPTON To promote and encourage fellowship, friendship and camaraderie among our members and guests, by creating, organizing and providing boating activities for our club members and the surrounding water communities. Commodore s Corner They say all good things must come to an end. Say it isn t so! No matter how much any of us may protest, now comes our season of change. Fall is upon us bringing those cooler temperatures, plans for winterization of the boats, and for Commonwealth Yacht Club, it s time to look forward to a new season of planning for next year s fun filled activities. Sharla Sparks Commodore Without a doubt, this past year as your Commodore has given me so much opportunity. I am genuinely thankful for the chance to have met and gotten to know so many of you through our varied endeavors. Commonwealth Yacht Club and its members and board of directors truly set Green Turtle Bay apart in the resort world, and I am proud to have served, not only as Commodore this past year, but in other capacities in the last several years as well. We have a good thing here! As with any organization, these successful activities take a great deal of effort from many different people. I can not say enough good about this past year s board s generosity of spirit and willingness to work hard. Of course, we would have accomplished little without the help and cooperation of Green Turtle Bay s steadfast management team. Through all of these combined efforts to put on events such as the Pirate s Market, Poker Run, Seafood Boil, Sailing Series, and Regatta, just to name a few, we have also been able to give back to the community in the way of donations to several local charities. We have a REALLY good thing here! Before I close, I must say thanks to you, all of my kind and gentle readers of the Commodore s Corner. My flights of fancy in print are coming to a close, and I thank you for giving me your time and attention! Don t miss your opportunity to attend the Commonwealth Yacht Club Annual Meeting, on Sunday, October 14th at 10:00 a.m. New officers will be elected so that we can start planning for our next set of really good things. We would like to emphasize that all CYC members are welcomed at any CYC-sponsored event. Get more information on specific events at: www.cycgtb.com OCTOBER 11
