18U softball team wins state title POSTED July 13, 2010 New Ulm Journal COON RAPIDS - New Ulm 18U softball team won the State B Title in Coon Rapids on Sunday. The team ended up with a 4-1 record for the weekend. New Ulm defeated the Bloomington Warriors 13-3 and also defeated Duluth 3-2 during play on Saturday. On Sunday, New Ulm defeated Hollywood 1-0 and then lost to Hollywood 6-5 forcing another game for the Championship. In the final game, New Ulm defeated Hollywood 7-6 in 9 innings. With the win, New Ulm has qualified for the National Class B Tournament to be held in St Joseph, MO to be held July 29-August 1. Kannegiesser on state champion Minnesota Blizzard PRODUCED from New Ulm Journal July 13, 2010 Kelsy Kannegiesser of New Ulm High School was a member of the 16U Minnesota Blizzard which was first place in the ASA State tournament for 16U at Mound Sunday May 11. Also on the team was Nicollet s Kayla Wenner. The team qualified for a trip to the ASA Nationals in College Station, Texas Aug. 1. Blitz goes 1-2 at state tournament POSTED July 13, 2010 New Ulm Journal MOUND - The New Ulm Blitz 16-U girls softball team went 1-2 in the State 'B' softball tournament in Mound Saturday. The Blitz defeated Owatonna 10-8. Brittany Hoffmann had six RBIs for the Blitz and had four hits in the game. New Ulm then lost a nine-inning game to Rochester 6-5, before being eliminated from the tournament via a 7-4 loss to Jackson. Top hitters at state for the Blitz were Hoffmann with eight hits and Kortney Barker with five hits. Kelly Luehrke and Britney Sellner each had four apiece. The New Ulm Blitz finished their season with a 22-14 record. During the season, they won the New Ulm Windmill Classic and took second in the Elk River tournament. New Ulm Storm 10U Win State Title REPRODUCED from New Ulm Journal July 13, 2010 COON RAPIDS - New Ulm s 10U Storm won the MMFL Tier 3 state championship last weekend. The storm defeated Eden Prairie 1-0, Wayzata 7-2, Waconia 5-2, Roseville 5-0 and 5-4. Team members included Meleah Reinhart, Josie Pautzke, Madeline Gag, Rylee Gag, Camryn Schiro, Kate Suess, Kayla Brandes, Rylee Wendinger, Taylor Forstner, Danielle Houge, Madison Suess, Aftyn Hoffmann, Jordan Reinhart and coaches Dan Reinhart, Steve Gag, Chad Hoffmann, and Mark Suess.

BLIZZARD AND KELSY SECOND IN COLORADO REPRODUCED from New Ulm Journal July 8, 2010 The Minnesota Blizzard, with Kelsey Kannegiesser of New Ulm and Kayla Wenne rof Nicollet as members, took second in the Colorado Sparkler July 4 with 181 teams from the United States competing. Both played in the all-star game and were asked to return to play in the All-America game. SOFTBALL: Kazemba hits 2 HRs, but New Ulm sweeps RL/W in 18 & Under POSTED July 14, 2010 Worthington Daily Glove WORTHINGTON Katherine Kazemba went deep during Round Lake/Worthington s first at-bat of a Tuesday doubleheader against New Ulm. She homered again in the nightcap, but neither shot was quite enough to push RL/W past New Ulm, which won both games 3-2 and 8-6. Angela Robinson pitched all seven innings in Game 1 for RL/W and struck out one batter. Kazemba went 2-for-3 and added a double. Christine Kazemba started the second contest for RL/W and struck out four through four innings. Erin Ebbers went 2-3 of an inning and forced a double play, while Robinson came on and finished the final 2 1-3 frames. Christine Kazemba batted 2-for-4, as did Steph Behrens and Katherine Kazemba who also laced her second double of the night. Shaina Lonneman had a triple. RL/W has qualified for the state tournament, which starts July 23. New Ulm 18-U softball team at nationals POSTED Jan. 27, 2010 New Ulm Journal NEW ULM - The New Ulm 18-under softball team will be competing in the ASA Northern National Class B tournament. The tournament will be held in St. Joseph, Mo. on July 28-Aug 1. There will be 26 teams competing from nine different states. The New Ulm team won the Minnesota State ASA Class B title in Coon Rapids. The team went 5-1 to win the state title the weekend of July 10-11. New Ulm opens up pool play on Thursday July 29 at 8 a.m. vs Hegewisch Synergy of Chicago. New Ulm will then play that afternoon at 4 p.m. vs the Avalanche of Summit Mo. New Ulm (19-8 on the season) will begin bracket play on Friday.

New Ulm s 18U women s softball team split two games at the ASA Northern National Class B tournament underway here. It also started bracket play Friday. Kasey Bode pitched an 11-3 five-winning win over Hegewisch Synergy from Chicago. Top hitters were Laura Holm with two doubles, a single, and two RBI s. Players with two hits were Logan Ahlness, Mandee Heiderscheidt, Brittany Hoffman, Andi Biedenbender and Bode. Hoffmann with three and Holm with two led the RBI s. In the 13-5 loss to Avalanche of Summit, MO., Trish Johnson went the distance and allowed 10 hits. No player had more than one hit. JOSEPH, Mo. - The New Ulm Girls 18U softball team won 11-3 against the Midwest Slammers Silver of Omaha, NE in five innings Friday. Kasey Bode pitched the first three innings giving up one hit, one run, one walk, and struck out one. Hallie Kuelbs pitched the last two innings giving up two hits, two runs, and struck out one. For New Ulm, Logan Ahlness was 1-for-3 and Caity Bierk was 1-for-2. Mandee Heiderscheidt was 2-for-2, Brittany Hoffmann was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Laura Holm was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Trish Johnson was 2-for-3 and Sydney Remus was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. In the second game of the day, New Ulm lost to the West Des Moines Tigers 12-4. Johnson pitched the entire game. She gave up eight hits, walked three, and struck out one. Andi Biedenbender was 2-for-3 and Heiderscheidt was 1-for-2. Holm was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Johnson was 2-for-3 New Ulm then won the third game 10-5 against the Lawrence Phenix from Lawrence, KS. Hallie Kuelbs pitched the first two innings giving up two runs and three hits. Johnson pitched the final five innings giving up three runs on four hits and two walks. Bierk was 2-for-4, Heiderscheidt was 2-for-4 and Hoffmann was 2-for-3. Holm was 3- for-4 with a double and a triple.
18U softball team finishes 5-3 POSTED August 3, 2010 ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The New Ulm 18U softball team finished with a 5-3 record at the ASA B National Tournament. New Ulm finished in seventh place out of 26 teams. On Saturday New Ulm defeated Hegewisch Synergy of Chicago by the score of 6-4. Kasey Bode pitched eight innings, giving up four hits and striking out three. Sydney Remus was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Logan Ahlness was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Hallie Kuelbs was 2-for-3. In the second game, New Ulm defeated the Missouri Wildcats 10-2. Trish Johnson pitched the six innings giving up six hits, while striking out two. Mandee Heiderscheidt was 2-for-3 and Holm was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Brittany Hoffmann was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Johnson was 2-for-3. Andi Biedenbender was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. In the final game, New Ulm lost to the All Stars from Independence, Mo. 9-1. Bode pitched one inning giving up six runs on four walks while giving up two hits. Johnson pitched the final four innings giving up three runs on three hits. Heiderscheidt was 2-for-3; Remus was 1-for-2 and Brittany Hoffmann was 1-for-2 with a double. New Ulm finishes the year as the Minnesota ASA B state champion and completes the year with a record of 26-12.
