1 st Quarter 2015 palominorabbits.org pg 1 Message from the Secretary Officers and Directors I send greetings from the wet Northwest. JR and I are getting back to normal after our small house fire right after convention, exterior work done now just to finish the inside. Much of my club stuff is in bins in storage. Every time we go to find something, yes in the storage area. We have not had our normal winter and must have sent all our snow to the east coast. I am starting to get some litters, though my winter breeding for our Spring National in April was not successful. Convention was a great success for the Palomino Club, many new members I am getting new members monthly including many youth. I see many breeders are including a year s membership with the purchase of a Palomino. More and more shows are contacting me for sanctioning Palominos at their shows especially on the east coast. Spring will be here before we know it and we will be gathering in Hutchinson Kansas before we know it. I want to give a special thank you to Bob Bergene, and the Salt City RBA for their work in putting this show together. Please see the flyer and entry form later in the newsletter or on the web site. Jim Brown will be heading our youth contest this year, I will be sending out applications to all youth members. Thank you Jim for organizing this valuable program. Be sure I have your current email, phone number and birthdates on all youth members. See you all in Hutchinson. Thank you, Cathy Dunkle, Secretary 509 481 3976 palominoclubsec@yahoo.com President Jim Hunter Vice President Zora Brewer Secretary Cathy Dunkle Treasurer Teri King District 1 Cliff King District 2 William Utter District 3 Tom Lowin District 4 Debra Wilcox District 5 Beth Thurn District 6 Joe Donato District 7 Shannon Whitney District 8 Mike Rabb District 9 James Brown Sweepstake Chair Carolyn Wright President Report Hello fellow Pal breeders! I hope this edition of the Pal News finds you all in good health and spirits. I hope, too, that you are planning to attend the Spring National Palomino Rabbit Show in Hutchinson, KS in April if at all possible. Not a long trip for me, but I know it will take some of you several days so I pray for a hedge of protection on you and your loved ones who may be traveling with you to that show. I know it is just too far for many of you and I completely understand. Bob Bergene (pronounced like burgundy without the d sound) has been doing most of the legwork for the show so please be sure to thank him when you see

1 st Quarter 2015 palominorabbits.org pg 2 him. Personally, I am just hoping to be competitive. Some who will be there have already schooled me this year at a couple of shows in Colorado. Sometimes I m the hammer and sometimes I m the nail. If I had more hair I d just have my barber give me a flat top. That would make it easier for Cliff and Terri. I saw a former Palomino breeder yesterday at a show and visited with him. He had given the Lucas girls some of his breeding and they did well with them at Convention in Fort Worth. Unfortunately, he was unable to get anything he really liked in his breeding and that is the reason he no longer raises Pals. I know several who tried to help him out and sold him anything he wanted. I know one who wouldn t. Personally, I m happy to help anyone who wants to get started in either variety of Palominos. On a personal note Kenneth Drews gave me a nice lynx doe at Convention and she had her first litter on this past Christmas Day. I ll be taking a few along to the show in Hutch for him to pick from. I like doing that kind of business and I d like to think that is the best way to help your fellow Pal breeders. Satin breeders have been kind enough to help me along in much the same manner. I have a litter on the way out of a nice golden buck that I got from James Brown and I m anxious to see the improvements in my goldens with that buck and a couple of nice does I got one, that is a little long in the tooth, from Ben and Beth Thurn at the last Spring National Pal show in Hutch, and I have a couple of others that I got from Raabs a few years ago. We have some really great breeders out there folks and it shows because competition at National shows has been fierce the last few years. I m just sorry that this year s spring show is not close enough for many of you to get to and I will miss seeing and visiting with the new friends I met in Fort Worth. Cathy, our great club secretary, will have more info about the spring show and youth contests and I look forward to seeing all of you who plan to make that trip. If you or your club is interested in hosting next year s spring National Palomino rabbit show please consult out constitution and by laws handbook as to the cutoff date for submission of those bids. A special thanks to Cathy and JR Dunkle for putting this edition together and getting it out to our membership! Please keep Joe and Missy Donato in your prayers. Joe s foot is on the mend now and that s really great news! Missy is the caregiver and sometimes that can be stressful. Just ask my wife, Carolyn who, by the way, I plan to bring to the Hutch show just to prove to you all that I do indeed, have a better half! Blessings to all of you and thanks to all of my Officers and Directors who make this president job easy! Jim from Cheryl Gamber. Right now I m working on getting numbers of litters so my show selection process will not just be the whatever I have, but some of my brood does haven t gotten that memo yet. I don t have a lot of golden does in my Vice President Report herd, but I have some I really like right now. I got

1 st Quarter 2015 palominorabbits.org pg 3 There s not much for me to say as far as the Palomino Rabbit Co Breeders Association. On another note, my local rabbit club, the Knox County IN RBA, is working on putting together a rare breed show to go along with the double all breed show for this spring and we would love to the attractions in Hutchinson and nearby while you are here. The Cosmosphere is one of the interesting places to visit and not far from the fairgrounds. Thank to Bob Bergene for his work on planning the show. Beth Thurm, District Five see a nice turn out of Palominos! J Thank you, Zora Brewer, Vice President District One Report (No report submitted) District Two Report District Six Report (Get Well Joe) Hello Everyone I hope that everyone is doing well and having better luck getting babies than we are our here. Our does seem to be on strike and we re not sure how to end this particular labor dispute. Unfortunately, we haven t been able to attend a whole lot of shows, but I have heard that we have some members who are doing well at shows in Central and Northern California. All of these breeders have beautiful animals and do a lot to promote our breed. I am hoping to be able to attend the Palomino Nationals in Hutchinson, Kansas and if not the ARBA Convention in Portland and hope to be able to see many Palomino breeders. Thank you, William Utter District Three Report District 3 welcomes a new youth member from Estherville, Iowa: Mr. Brad Anderson Tom Lowin District Four Report (No Report Submitted) District Five Report Congratulations to all the winners at the National Convention last fall. It sounds like it was a good time to get together. Kansas is happy to be hosting the National Pal Show in April at Hutchinson Kansas. Be sure to check out some of Picture from today's Corner of the South Show. Jeff Emerson took BOB in the Specialty Show and went on to take 1st Reserve in Show A 9 pals were shown each in each show. Show took place in Shreveport, LA District Seven Report Greetings from New York or Winter Wonderland. No shows to report on, stay warm.. District Eight Report Hello from Indiana! I think Southern Indiana has been fortunate so far on the weather, not much snow and cold at times considering last year was kind of rough. I have tried to breed thru the winter and have had a few litters. I just read an article about colony breeding. I am going to try it. I had read that Oren Reynolds used it often and had good results.

1 st Quarter 2015 palominorabbits.org pg 4 The shows are just getting started in this area of District 8. I am going to attend as many as possible and sanction the Pals where needed. We had a show last November near Indianapolis and had 14 pals judged with 4 exhibitors. It was a decent turn out, but hoping to see more in the upcoming shows. I paid to have the Pals sanctioned for the Southern Indiana RBA show in New Albany, IN on March 7th. Hope to see you there. Another show with Pals sanctioned is the Franklin, IN show on April 26th. The Knox County show on May 23rd will also have Pals sanctioned. Keep your nest boxes full. See you at the shows! Mike Raab, District Eight District Nine Report Jim Brown Director The weekend of February 7 & 8, 2015 the Pennsylvania State Rabbit Breeders Association (PaSRBA) held their annual convention. We had an excellent showing of extremely nice Palominos in both open and youth each day. There were two shows each day, an all breed show and a Mid Atlantic Rabbit and Cavy Shows (MARCS) specialty show in both open and youth. There were 12 Pals entered in the youth shows and 20 Pals entered in open shows. The Pennsylvania State Rabbit Breeders Association is the largest state convention of its type. At the conclusion of the weekend, it was estimated that there were over 15,500 rabbits and cavies entered in both the open and youth shows.
