The Skating Club of New York presents: New York A Competition in Theatrical Skating Sanctioned by U.S. FIGURE SKATING SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2011 Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers, New York, New York Deadline: Postmarked by January 16, 2011 Singles Events Dramatic : An artistic performance in which the skater performs a program to music which emphasizes dramatic emotions, choreography, original moves and musical interpretation. Entertainment : A cheerful or humorous performance in which the skater performs a program to music that emphasizes light entertainment. Skaters may choose music from musicals, movies, pop culture, etc. Extemporaneous Improvisation: Skaters will listen to music chosen in advance by the referee -- once in a secluded room with other competitors, and twice on the ice during warm-up. Each skater then will perform a routine expressing his/her own creative interpretation of the music. No coaching is allowed. Any skater receiving assistance from another party (coach, parent, friend, etc.) will be disqualified. Parade of Champions Final Round: All Preliminary and above singles competitors who finish 1st in any contested event (more than one entry in the event) will be invited back to compete in the Parade of Champions final round to be held at the end of the competition. Duets and Ensembles events: Duets: A theatrical performance by two contestants. Mini Production Ensemble: A theatrical performance by three to seven contestants. Production Ensemble: A theatrical performance by more than seven contestants Who May Compete: Events are open to skaters in good standing with U.S. Figure Skating or ISI who are skating at the No Test through Adult Gold or Masters level or at ISI level FS 1 through FS 6 level. Events are available for children, teens and adults. Skaters sign up for the event based on their free skating test level unless otherwise noted. Events can be for Single skaters, Duets, or Ensembles. Inquiries: Call The Skating Club of New York at 646 638-0030 or send email to: mail@thescny.org Officials: All judging panels for the events will be comprised of U.S. Figure Skating Judges. Basis for Judging Events: Performances will be judged primarily on theatrical and artistic qualities from an entertainment standpoint. Technical skating skills and difficulty will not be rewarded as such; however, skating must be the major element of the performance and be of sufficient quality to support the selected theatrical elements. Skaters will be judged in the following areas: music interpretation, audience appeal, choreography, and overall performance. Only one mark is assigned by each judge for each performance. No technical mark is given.

Basis for Judging Adult Free Skate Events: A well-balanced program to be judged on the 6.0 system. Awards: First, second, third, and fourth place finishers in each event will receive medals. This includes each member of a duet or ensemble with similar placement. National 2011: Singles competitors who place 1 st through 4th in a singles event may qualify for National 2011 which will be held in the summer of 2011. Music: Vocal Music is allowed. CDs should be labeled with the competitor s name and event. Make sure that each program is on it s own CD and there is only one recorded track on the CD. Please bring two CDs for each program in case of a problem. No Tapes will be accepted. Props / Scenery: Props are optional. If used, props/scenery must be placed and removed by the performer(s) in a total time (on and off) of one (1) minute for singles and duets, or two (2) minutes for an ensemble. Violations will be penalized. No throwing of objects on the ice, no smoke or fire and no live animals will be permitted. Climbing on the scenery will not be permitted. No helium balloons. No props using feathers or water. Costumes: Costumes should fit the performance. All costume parts shall be securely attached; loose costume items and hairpins can cause injuries. No costumes with feathers will be permitted on the ice. Schedule: Schedules will be posted on our web site (www.thescny.org) approximately one (1) week prior to the start of the competition. Schedules will not be mailed. Practice Ice: Details about practice ice will be available on the club web site in mid-january after the close of entries for the competition. Videotaping: There will be an official videographer for the competition. ALL ENTRY FEES INCLUDE ONE DVD OF THE EVENT S ENTIRE FLIGHT. If you sign up for multiple events requiring additional entry fees you will receive 1 DVD for each event. Duets and Ensembles will receive one (1) DVD. Additional copies will be able to be purchased. Videotaping by spectators is restricted to the bleachers and lobby; tripods are not allowed. Waiver of Liability, Rules, Decisions and Appeals: The Skating Club of New York, U.S. Figure Skating and Sky Rink accept no responsibility for injury or damage sustained by any participant in this competition.

(Extemporaneous contestants should report to monitor forty-five (45) minutes before their event to hear their event music. Additional Guidelines for Competition: 1. The Competition Committee reserves the right to combine events where necessary. 2. Performance categories and levels may be further divided according to the number of entries. Entries will not be separated by gender. Effort will be made to keep groups to six entries. 3. There is no minimum time requirement. Maximum times are given above. A deduction of 0.2 will be applied for every 10 seconds in excess of the maximum performance time. 4. Timing starts with the first motion of the body.
