MONTERÍA CIUDAD REAL The Iberian Mediterranean forests have been home to magnifice game populations since time immemorial. Many centuries later they are still hunted using the most traditional collective form: LA MONTERÍA. It is one of the most thrilling forms, where personal contact and camaraderie become one with the wilderness, nature in its most primitive sense, and a passion for hunting, through ancestral rituals that have changed little over the centuries. With the hunter at his post, the dawn s mist begins to fade, revealing the colors of the Mediterranean mountains in all their splendor. Tensions run high as the conch shells sound, guiding the rehalas (hunting dogs) to the approaching game. The lone hunter watches from his post as the game comes within reach, allowing him to pick off his specimen knowing that the dogs will track it down. Back at the junta de carnes (gathering of the kill), the hunters enjoy a delicious meal and begin what is for many the highlight of the montería : relating personal experiences, listening to others, and seeing the results of an unforgettable day, one that shall remain engraved in their memories. ITINERARY 01 st DAY: ARRIVAL DAY Your hunting trip will start with your ARRIVAL to MADRID AIRPORT where Iberhunting staff will meet you and help you with the clearance of documents for bringing your riffle. NOTE: There will be only one transfer so we ask to the hunters to take flights with arrival before 15.00h and departures after 16.00h Estimated bus drive 2h 30min from Madrid Airport to the Hotel Santa Eulalia in Puertollano. Hotel Santa Eulalia is a comfortable and modern 4 star hotel located in Ciudad Real in the town of Puertollano. In the center of the town with spectacular views of the emblematic Paseo San Gregorio and the Fuente Agria. It is the ideal place for tourists and business guests. DINNER in the restaurant of the hotel. The Restaurant La Ula, one of the best restaurants in Puertollano, offers a new gastronomic concept as its specialty in fresh fish from the bay of Malaga, without forgetting a complete menu of salads, appetizers and roasts, accompanied by a wide selection of excellent wines and delicious desserts.
02 nd & 03 rd DAYS: MONTERIA DAYS On every hunting day we will have BREAKFAST in the hotel and drive to the hunting area at 9.30 a.m. The hunting are is located 15 min. driving from the hotel; it has approx. 2.000 hectares land with a variety of game as redstag, fallowdeer, mouflon, wildboar and females that can be hunted with a médium-high quality of trophies. The stimation for the two days of Hunt is about 200-250 animals. Once at the meeting point, we will draw the stands of the day. Every hunter will be posted with his secretario in the stand before the beginning of the Monteria. The Monteria starts when the hunter is posted in his stand and it finishs when the driver pick the hunter up. Normally the hunt last about three hours. Monteria is a collective form of hunting that involves a number of different roles without whom the proper development and success of the brush beating is impossible. On the hunting area of several hundred hectares, a series of armadas or lines of hunting posts are formed, surrounding and covering the terrain. Hunting dogs play a very special role in this form of hunting and it would be impossible without
them. Led by their respective dog handler, the rehalas are released, moving in from one or more ends of the brush. They beat into the brush from different directions so that the fleeing game attempt to break through the hunting lines. Although this would appear to be a very planned action, the truth is that monteria is a form of hunting that requires a high level of observation, attention, silence and accuracy by the hunter. Therefor we recommend showing maximum attention from the first still the last moment in the Monteria. LUNCH TIME at the finca garden after each day of Montería. During this time, the arrieros or cargadores (carriers) starts their work, just as important as the rest of those involved in this event. They are charged of gathering the fallen game and loading them into the vehicles to be taken to the junta (meeting point) as quickly as possible. GAME PARADE of the hunted species. RETURN to the hotel and DINNER about 20.30 p.m. 4 th DAY DEPARTURE DAY BREAKFAST at the hotel, check out and transport by bus to Madrid Airport or desired hotel in Madrid if extended stay is prefered. A stalking hunt could be a great option to include after your Monteria program. ADVISEMENTS & SECURITY RULES - Spanish Montería is a social hunting event so you don t need to put camouflage clothes. It is only necessary as security an orange vest. The footwear can be a light mountain boots. - We recommend to bring a seat with you for the hunt. You will be during 3 hours on your post. - We also recommend to bring a quick-stick, a rain poncho and hearing protection. - When you fly to our country with your weapon and ammuniton, pl. remember that the ammunition must to be carried in a separate container of riffle (made by aluminium or hard plastic). - SILENCERS ARE FORBIDDEN IN SPAIN!!! - Don t forget to bring with you to the hunting area: ammunition, weapon, passport or identity card and your European Weapon Passport. - The hunt begins once you are in your post and ends when the guide pick you up. - Be attentive from the first moment that you are in the post because the mouvements of the others hunters taking positition can frighten the animals. - After the hunt, give to your secretario your special identification card to put to the shooted animals, we will provide you these identifications before the hunt. - It is not allowed to have any ammunition inside the weapon during your transport from/to the hunting area. - The transport of your weapons during the hunting days must be with a rifle cover. - The rifle has to be in the rifle cover still your arrive to your post. - All the stands will have a secretario. - NEVER leave your post during the hunt. - Please, shoot only when you see the animals. When you shoot take care to watch that the bullet doesn t go against rocks to avoid the bullet bounce. The trajectory of the bullet to shoot should be downward. - Don t shoot long distance or any direction without any control about the trajectory of the bullet. - Don t shoot if you are not sure that you are shooting to a wildboar, a redstag or a female deer. - During the hunt, a lot of dogs and dog-drivers will be walking all over the hunting-area, so please take care. - After the hunting, please watch that you haven t any ammunition in your riffle. - After the hunt, please collect the faded sleeves.
