Page 2 General Managers Message Dear Members, We are all looking forward to warmer weather, blue skies, and green grass in our fairways. We are excited about the prospect of the 2015 Golf Season and our upcoming Membership Drive! Our Goal is 450 Members of Deep Springs CC!! Sonny Johnson and his staff are prepared to have the Golf Course prepared accordingly, including a greens aerification on March 30th & 31st. We are thankful to have a new fleet of EZGO golf carts, which is an asset for Club Operations and Membership Recruitment going forward. The Ladies Golf Association start off their agenda on Saturday, March 21st with a Kickoff brunch and Golf event following. We will also host an "Open" Individual Net event for all DSCC Members with a Blind Draw component during the Masters week. The Men will follow with their Kickoff Tournament on Saturday, April 18th. Please set your schedules accordingly! We anticipate Big Turnouts and Increased Participation levels this year! Please Enjoy the Fellowship that Our Membership has to offer! March is a Great Month to take care of any Club Repair and Equipment needs for the upcoming Golf Season. Have you picked your Range Plan for 2015? Our Range Ball Quality is the best it s been in years. From a Teaching prospective, we will be taking a more Technological approach, which include our Lesson and Clinic menu offerings. Also, please see Nick Webb first if you are thinking about an Equipment Upgrade or Club Demo Options. The Carolinas Golf Association is requesting that we have a Handicap Committee, comprising of at least One Club Member in addition to the Professional Staff. Please let us know if you would like to serve in this capacity. On a final note, I would be remiss if we did not pause to thank and respectfully think of three loyal members upon their passing. Mrs. Eloise Martin, Bob Nichols, and John McGrath. As painful as the situations were and continue to be, we can take solace in knowing how much they truly loved Deep Springs and their friends. We look forward to seeing you on the course! Deep Springs, it's where you belong! Lew
Superintendent s Message Well it is that time of year again. Spring is upon us, which means green grass will be here very soon. This year we are moving our spring aerification to the end of March. Hopefully this will help with a quicker recovery than what we had last season. My plan this go round is to use more tines with a smaller hole size. This will greatly help relieve any compaction and improve air and water movement through the putting surface. An added benefit in doing this will greatly reduce our thatch layer, which aids tremendously in plant health. By using smaller tines there is less area for the turf to heal into. I appreciate your patience in this process as this is a necessary practice to provide a quality putting surface for your enjoyment. So knock the dust off of your swing and lets get ready to enjoy our 2015 golf season. See you on the course Sonny Message From Renee Just a few more weeks until Spring.
