No stiles but one fairly steep descent down stone steps. The Venue: The Sportsman is near Colley Hill, surrounded by heathland. The original core of the building dates from 1532 and is thought to have been a hunting lodge for King Henry VIII. The pub is both walker and dog-friendly and has an extensive side garden. There is bar and restaurant dining with a varied menu and Sunday roasts. It is open from 12.00 to 22.30 hrs on Sundays. Go to www.thesportsmanmogador.co.uk for full details, tel: 01737 246655. There is a car park behind the pub but walkers are requested to use the shingled upper section. OS Grid Reference: TQ 240 532 Directions: The Sportsman pub, Lower Kingswood, Surrey, KT20 7ES. From Tadworth: At the five-way Tadworth roundabout head south on the A217 towards Reigate. After next roundabout continue for about 0.8 miles then, just after passing The Fox-on-the-Hill pub on left, turn right across dual carriageway into Buckland Road. At cross-roads turn right into Mogador Road. When pub sign appears after about 0.5 miles turn right along side road to pub. From M25 Junction 8: From the roundabout at the top of Reigate Hill head north on A217 towards London and Sutton. Very shortly after next roundabout turn left to Mogador along Stubbs Lane. At crossroads go straight over into Mogador Road. When pub sign appears after about 0.5 miles turn right along side road to pub. Public Transport: The nearest bus stops (for 420 and 460 buses) are just under a mile from The Sportsman, very close to The Fox-on-the-Hill pub on the A217. For all bus times (420 and 460) go to www.metrobus.co.uk. On leaving bus (and crossing over the dual carriageway if alighting on the pub side) walk into Buckland Road. Joanne and Jeremy Norfolk present A Sporting Start (2016 Andi Cap) The Sportsman pub, Lower Kingswood, Surrey, KT20 7ES Sunday 23 rd April, 2.15 p.m. 2.8 miles / 4.5km Time allowed: 3.5 hours Starter clues: These can all be found at the front of pub and are visible from the pavement. Main walk: House names may be used. There are no clues on the motorway bridges. During Stage 1 be careful of traffic on Mogador Road. During Stage 6 you may come across some cows but I think they are friendly! Starter Clues Q1 Q2 Q3 Mother s pants found in Local. Upside down without a doubt, useful things for putting out. Much-married monarch mounted here? Stage 1 Turn left outside pub, go to end of road and turn left into Mogador Road. Head down Mogador Road. Stage ends at public footpath sign just after 30mph signs. Q4 Q5 Q6 This would be magic at doing the dishes! Cold-blooded calculators. Saucy chat on tap? Stage 2 Continue along the road and turn right at the crossroads (into Buckland Road but not signposted). Stage ends at public bridleway sign just after Dents Grove. Q7 Q8 Q9 Flyer seen by seaside residents? Watchful stare of pagan pair. Swinging in the wind.

Stage 3 Go straight ahead on public bridleway and then continue along Margery Wood Lane to the end of stage just before the bridge over the M25. Q10 Q11 Q12 Don t even think of putting a deposit on a property round here! Shady Lady? Originally I voted yes for this member of the Green Party. Stage 4 Continue over the bridge (no clues on the bridge) and along the bridleway, eventually reaching a gate onto Queens Park where the stage ends. Q13 Q14 Q15 A house initially, four up, two down. Travellers pause? or should it be paws? Posh residence at just over half a million? Surely not! Stage 5 Go through the gate and turn left along the path. When you reach the Inglis memorial pavilion turn right and head down along the edge of the grass onto a dirt path. Go down some stone steps and at the bottom turn sharp right onto a path going diagonally across the open grassland. Follow the path back up towards the main path (at the gate you came through from stage 4), where the stage ends. Q16 Q17 Q18 Heavenly view round here. Where once we were seated is now much depleted! You ll find you get short measures at The Crown. Stage 6 Turn left and follow the path and eventually leave through the gate just past the sign marked Colley Hill. The stage ends here. Q19 Q20 Figures would suggest it s windy and rainy here. Overcome an obstacle to progress?

Stage 7 Turn right almost immediately through a broken wooden door and proceed along the footpath. The path shortly becomes a small road. Follow the road and turn left at the junction at Pilgrim s Corner. Follow the road to the T-junction at the end of Merrywood Grove where the stage ends. Q21 Q22 Looking back, That hurts in black. Example of heathlands poetry around here. Stage 8 Turn right and almost immediately cross the bridge over the M25 motorway. There are no clues on the bridge. Follow the road until you reach the pub sign where the stage ends. Turn left back to the pub. Q23 Q24 Q25 Two dozen fruit or nut your choice! Pole position. It looks like you won t get a quick cuppa here! ---------------------- Spare Clues A Immaculate money-maker! B Novel descent?

Young Walkers Clues Starter Clues 1. Where can you see a bird of prey? 2. What are red and shady? There are a lot in the garden! Stage 1 3. Can you see a little shield with a red cross on it? What else is on the shield? 4. Can you see a place suitable for ducks somewhere along here? Stage 2 5. Can you see two stone dogs outside one of the houses? What is the name of house? 6. What are you not allowed to do in front of the water tower gates? Stage 7 15. What things could you sit on near Pilgrims Corner? There are a few of them round here! 16.
