Bridgeport Vigilantes Bunkhouse News Volume 1, Issue 1 May 2011 Message from The Sheriff Howdy to All: As I sit here I am thinking back at the last seven years of how the Bridgeport Vigilantes got started. Also, how the SASS shoo ng has become a large family. I have shot with a lot of other gun clubs and have never felt the family connec on. SASS is another type gun club! I have seen a Cowboy get to the loading table or shoo ng line only find that the front sight or something on their rifle was wrong. Another SASS shooter would say here use my gun or a spare gun is always to be found. You won t find this in any other shoo ng sport. We are just one big family. As it looks, we will be shoo ng on the new range and will be using our newly acquired targets. Thanks to the Rockin Four from Santa Rosa for making our targets. We will be shoo ng seven (7) stages. So bring 100 rounds for your pistol, 100 rounds for your rifle and 75 rounds for your shotgun, at minimum! Bridgeport Vigilantes will be hos ng a BBQ a er the shoot held at the old homestead of Bodie Kid/Bee Blest. Please email or call to let me know how many will be coming with you to the BBQ. We need to know how many to provide for. Please bring your be er half with you so he or she can see how much fun we have at these shoots. REMEMBER: Saturday May 21st, we meet for breakfast at The Sportsman Inn, right across from the Court House, at 7:30 a.m. Our shooters mee ng will start at 9:15 a.m. and our shoot will start at 9:45 a.m. We would appreciate any help you can provide with se ng up the stages before the shooter s mee ng. This way we can begin promptly at 9:45 a.m. Thank you so very much, I look forward to seeing you then. Bridgeport Vigilantes Shoot Schedule For 2011 May 21st BBQ a er the shoot. June 11th July 16th August 19th - 20th Robbers Roost Vigilantes joining us. BBQ a er the shoot on Saturday the 20th September 22nd - 25th Bridgeport Vigilantes Eastern High Sierra Shoot Out October 6th - 9th Defend the Robbers Roost, Ridgecrest, CA October 15th November 12th Last shoot of the year A Special Thank You to : The Bridgeport Gun Club for their generous donation to The Bridgeport Vigilantes Club fund. These funds have help secure the material for the new target for this year. We would also like to thank The Rockin Four from Santa Rosa, CA for providing all the labor that went into making us those new targets. December 17th Bridgeport Vigilantes Christmas Party Prior to our shoots don t forget to meet us for a good Cowboy Breakfast at The Sportsmen Inn on Hwy 395 at 7:30. Bodie Kid will be there to make sure our tables are ready for us. Thanks Bodie!! Quote for Cowboys : Few Cowboys never own much. The Primary reward of being a cowboy was the pleasure of living a cowboy s life. By Anonymous 2

Bodie Kid The First BV Cowboy aka William Henry Cole, Bill, Hank, Henry, & Dad Born in Oklahoma...when??? A long me ago. Grew up in Colorado for a period of me, and then moved to Bell Gardens, CA where he met Bee Blest. They a ended Bell Gardens Assembly of God Church and Bell Gardens High School. Bodie played football and always drove a cool car. As a kid in Colorado, he began his love affair with guns. His grandpa and father were both gun to n' guys - everyone was back then. His love for guns has only grown and expanded over the years. He got involved in Royal Rangers when it was first formed in their Church. As it grew, the organiza on added the Fron ersman Camping Fraternity (FCF). Bodie loved the Fron ersman/pioneer era, so he jumped head first into it. He shot black powder guns. He was a member of the Golden Bear Muzzleloaders, based in Buena Park, CA out of a gun shop called The Flintlock. Bodie Kid and Bee Blest were married in Bell Gardens, raised three children, re red and then moved to Bridgeport, CA in 1998. They celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary in Bridgeport, CA. They have been married a lot longer now! We don t count anymore. Bodie Kid, a er moving to Bridgeport, never lost his interest in shoo ng and began shoo ng with The Roop County Cowboys and High Plains Dri ers in Fernley, NV He dreamt of forming a SASS club in Bridgeport. A er much work and discussion with the Bridgeport Gun Club, his dream was realized in the spring of 2004. Bodie Kid, along with seven other shooters, commenced the first monthly shoo ng match of the now Bridgeport Vigilantes on May 18, 2004 at 9 a.m. He is the President and Territorial Governor of the Bridgeport Vigilantes. The Bridgeport Vigilantes are now celebra ng their 7 th year together thanks to a dream and many prayers. 3

Code Of The Cow Country By S. Omar Barker It don't take such a lot of laws To keep the rangeland straight, Nor books to write 'em in, because There's only six or eight. The first one is the welcome sign True brand of western hearts: "My camp is yours an' yours is mine," In all cow country parts. Treat with respect all womankind, Same as you would your sister. Take care of neighbors' strays you find, And don't call cowboys "mister." Shut pasture gates when passin' through; An' takin' all in all, Be just as rough as pleases you, But never mean nor small. Talk straight, shoot straight, and never break Your word to man nor boss. Plumb always kill a ra lesnake. Don't ride a sorebacked hoss. It don't take law nor pedigree To live the best you can! These few is all it takes to be A cowboy and a man! S. Omar Barker, reprinted with the permission of the estate of S.
