January 30 Progress Reports Come Out February 4 FAFSA Completion Night February 5 Girls Basketball Senior Night February 5 Scholastic Bowl Season Begins February 6 11:30 Dismissal February 6 OJHS Night Spaghetti Dinner February 16 No School Presidents Day Juniors across the state were required to take the Prairie State Achievement Exam (PSAE), measuring their achievements in reading, math, science and writing. This data is used to determine how Oakwood students achievements compare to the rest of the state. In order to recognize their accomplishments and efforts on the PSAE, Oakwood High School has an incentive program. Those students who meet and exceeded the expectations of the PSAE were awarded shirts on January 15 with their last name and an I m a Comet logo on Carli Burris Mariah Carnahan Greyson Carpenter Cameron Cawley Alyssa Cornett Mitchell Day Delaney Durst Sadie Edwards Jared Evans Preslie Fletcher Abby Foster Lesli Frye Kyle Girton Kendra Gonzalez Austin Green Kelsey Grimm Parker Lee Steven Mackiewicz the back emphasizing the I met to signify their work. Students who received these shirts, now seniors, will be treated to extra rewards and trips each month for the remainder of the school year, but they must wear the shirts on those reward days. Twenty-seven seniors qualified this year, making them one of the largest groups to meet the requirements. The following students of the 2015 class have scores which met or exceeded the PSAE standards. 11:30 Dismissal, February 6 Dathan Mathews Steven McDonald Eilis Nicholson Austin Shelton Kerrick Sweetland Kathleen Townsley JoEllyn Weaver Liam White Cory Woods

2 Comet Courier 01-23-15 Schell named Comet of the Month Durst wins for Selflessness Sophomore Katie Schell was chosen as Comet of the Month by the OHS Student Recognition Committee. Schell is a member of the Art and Drama clubs. Senior Delaney Durst was selected as the Most Selfless Student. Durst is a member of the basketball team. Both awards were chosen by the OHS staff. Hernandez wins trip to Super Bowl! By Liam White (From dailyoakwoodtimes.com) OHS senior Lexi Hernandez, an employee of the Oakwood McDonald s, won the golden ticket courtesy of her place of work. It was actually two tickets Hernandez won, and those tickets will admit her to Super Bowl XLIX in Phoenix. This stroke of luck for Hernandez did not start out as luck. The Oakwood McDonald s won a contest among other McDonald s restaurants to have the best rating overall. This contest meant that the Oakwood McDonald s would be receiving 11 prizes to give to random employees and this is when the luck began. The final prize was the Super Bowl trip for two. Hernandez said that at least 20 people had asked her for the second ticket to the game. She decided to bring her mother along with her. The game to be played on February 1 is not the only perk Hernandez receives with her prize. The trip is all-expenses paid. This includes two first-class plane tickets, three nights in a five star Phoenix hotel and $500 for shopping and dining. Hernandez and her mother will also get the chance to have a meet and greet with the players of both teams. Lee scores his 1000th career point Comet senior Parker Lee scored his 1000th career varsity point on January 13 against Salt Fork. Lee became the 11th boy to cross the 1000-point mark as a Comet. The last person to do it was his brother Cameron. He signed the ball in the east lobby trophy case, which has the signature of the previous 1000-point scorers. Lee has played varsity since his freshmen year and has been a starter since he was a sophomore. Lee scored 427 points as a junior, 321 points as a sophomore, and nine points as a freshman.
