FROM THE BRIDGE JUNE WIGGINS, COMMODORE What a wonderful night. I am sorry if you missed the Commodore's Ball. The food was great. The music was awesome. And the decorations were beautiful. Thanks too all who made this night a success. Special thanks to Shelda Jones and her helpers for the decorations. Also, special thanks to Dick Marx for being the master of ceremonies. It was a special treat to have Fritzi Presley join Eddie McDaniel for a few songs. It is a night I will always remember. This is just one example of how we, as a club, come together and do wonderful things. We have the best club on the coast, and unique one at that. We not only have a great sailing program, but also the friendliest group of people around. We are still having a good time on Friday nights. Friday night is game night with cards and scrabble having a cocktail or just being with friends. Not many other clubs have this setting. Coming up in March we are having great lenten specials and special events (St, Patrick s dinner, March Martini Madness). March will be a great month. Come down and GET INVOLVED with your club. You don t know what you are missing. ENTERTAINMENT COMMITTEE JUNE WIGGINS What an awesome February we had: Lobster night, Mardi Gras party, and the Commodore's Ball!. We had everything from 70 degree weather to the coldest 2 days of the year so far. Unfortunately, the coldest days coincided with the Long Beach Mardi Gras parade and after party. We still partied- just inside. I am not sure what the weather will be in March, but I know we are having some great Friday night Lenten specials. We are having our annual March Martini Madness on Saturday, March 31 st. This is a great opportunity to try that martini without buying a whole one and maybe not liking it. We will have several martini stations set up with different flavors (appletini, chocolatetini etc.) You pay a set price and you can try just a little or a lot of any or all of them. There will be food also. This is great fun so come down and join us. We thought since St. Patrick s day is on a Saturday we will have a St. Patty's day dinner. Come and join us for some traditional corned beef and cabbage and maybe listen to some Irish ditties. This will start at 6pm. MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE PATTI STEAGALL The following people have applied for membership in the Long Beach Yacht Club. Their applications will be presented to the Board of Governors for approval at their regular meeting on March 19, 2012. Steve and Donna Haynie (non-resident) Dr. Matthew Matulich (regular) 505 Drawhorn Drive 10411 Riverroad Drive Port Neches, TX 77651 Gulfport, MS 39503

HOUSE COMMITTEE JULIE NOBLE Wow, what a February. Lots of great things were happening and I hope you had the opportunity to enjoy at least some of them. We started off the month with the Lobster Dinner and, again, it was absolutely wonderful. A huge thank you to Dick Marx, Steve Harmon & Christy, Drew Clarke (if you can't be there yourself, send your kids!), Brad Marx, June Wiggins & Shelda Jones. Also, thank you to Quentin Whitsitt & Maddy Murray for all your work - you did a great job. I hope you all got to see & taste the "Lobster Boil" cake. hollywood Casino did a great job. The next night we had a Super Bowl party which turned out to be a lot of fun. Everyone brought something and we all cheered our teams (too bad it wasn't the Saints - maybe next time). Mardi Gras was the next Saturday night and it was soooo cold - we had to make some adjustments in where the party was going to be but I think everyone had a good time in spite of the weather. Thank you Shirley Steen for preparing the red beans and Joe Fleming for cooking the hamburgers and hot dogs. Thanks to June Wiggins, Marguerite Hess, Daddy Fred & Dana Burke for all your help also. There are some people I would like to thank - all you guys who take the trash out for us on a very regular basis - we really do appreciate you all. Our annual Commodore's Ball was Saturday, February 25th, and I heard it was absolutely fantastic. We have now officially welcomed our new Commodore, June Wiggins. Thank you to Shelda Jones & JoAnn Francingues for making our club look so beautiful. I'd also like to thank my daughter-in-law, Becky, for making the rest of the seashell candy favors. (Like I said, send your kids) Unfortunately, I had to go out of town unexpectedly and wasn't able to attend the ball or finish making the candy. And, of course, I thank our Linda for all she does, all the time. Please notice that we have a new light above the elevator door downstairs. Thank you so much to Charlie Coleman & Dick Urban & anyone else who might have helped. It is nice to not be in the dark. We have some fun events planned for next month - St. Patrick's Day Dinner & March Martini Madness to name a couple so try to come down & have some fun. Please check the calendar for all upcoming events, look for flyers & reminders that might be sent to you via email, and, as always, we look forward to seeing you at your club. For those of you unable to attend the Commodore s Ball, Tom Stokes and Don Rayner proudly accepted the 2011 MSGGS first and second place trophies. Remember, these timed cruises" are open to all sailboats. We rate the skipper, not the boat, so everyone from novice to expert has a chance to win.
