GENERAL INFORMATION WHY SHOW ACADEMY? Showing Academy is a great way to learn how to show. For those riders who want to step up in their riding and compete, this is the way to go! You do not need to own your own horse to show; instead you show one of our Academy horses. Academy Team Members will practice on many of these horses during their riding lessons to prepare for the shows. Showing is much more than the competition. It s the other benefits that make it such a unique sport: character, sportsmanship, compassion, perseverance, and so much more. Just ask one of our current Academy Team Members; they can tell you! PRICING=$350/show Legacy Saddlebreds charges a flat rate for each Academy Show we attend throughout the year, with the exception of the National Academy Championships. This rate covers everything related to the horse and entering the rider in the show. It does not include clothing or your own personal expenses for traveling to the show (hotels, meals, gas). It also does not include the Championship classes that are offered at some of the shows we attend (see pages 17-18). WHAT IF I MISSED THE SIGN-UP DEADLINE? When the sign-ups open for an Academy Show, it will have a sign-up deadline. If you miss the deadline but still want to attend the show, there is a $25 Late Registration Fee that will be applied to the show (see page 19). WHAT IF A SHOW GETS CANCELED? For the Academy Shows we have on the calendar, Legacy must have 15 riders signed up by the registration deadline in order to still go to the show. If this minimum is not met, we will cancel that Academy Show. Any payments made can be credited to a future Academy Show. CLOTHING When you show Academy, there is a certain style and type of outfit that must be worn (see page 23). There are many options to purchase your rider s attire from consignment clothing to custom made outfits. We have connections with the finest clothiers in the business, and also have select outfits on consignment at the barn. Academy outfits can range anywhere from $300-$1,700. 3

Policies for Championship Classes at Academy Shows At some of the Academy Shows we attend, they offer Championship Classes. These classes are optional for the show to add to their schedule and it is at their discretion how they divide the age groups. We have come up with a policy that we feel is fair to all riders and horses at Legacy. Points will be awarded for ribbons received in both the Equitation and Showmanship classes, and these points will be added together. Riders within each Championship class division will be ranked in order of total points. Riders eligible for the Championship classes will be determined by the highest rank and horse availability. If your rider is eligible and you choose to show in the Championship class, there will be a $50 additional charge to be paid when we return from the show. If your rider is eligible and you choose not to show in the Championship class, you must tell the adult that is tallying the results through the show so we know to not include you in the ranking of points. Ribbons will be based on a value system: 1 st Place=10 points 2 nd Place=9 points 3 rd Place=8 points 4 th Place=7 points 5 th Place=6 points 6 th Place=5 points 7 th Place=4 points 8 th Place=3 points 17

Policies for Championship Classes at Academy Shows At each show, we will need a parent to volunteer to keep track of the points and ranking throughout the show. We will provide a spreadsheet and the adult must keep track of every Legacy Rider and their placing in each class so we can determine who will be eligible for the Championship class. Please contact Sondra if you are interested in helping us with this. Please note that the horse show, ASAC, or any other governing body does not determine these policies. They provide no guidelines for qualification for the Championship classes. Since we take a large volume of riders and our own Legacy Academy horses, horse options are limited. We want our riders to have the opportunity to show in these Championship classes, so that is why we have come up with this set of rules that we feel is fair to our barn, barn family, and Academy horses. We are always looking for ways to improve, so if you have any suggestions, please let us know. 18

Late Registration Policy Every Academy Show we attend has an entry deadline. In the past, many of the shows we attend have been lenient on adding Academy riders after the posted entry date. However, the shows are now charging for these post-entries for Academy. The sign-up sheet for each Academy Show will be available as soon as we find out the entry deadline for the show. It will be located on the bulletin board in the Lesson Barn Viewing Lounge, and we will add a link to register on the Academy page of our website. If you miss the sign-up deadline and still want to attend, we will charge a $25 Late Registration Fee. 19

Industry Membership Guidelines As part of the Academy Team, you have the option to gain recognition for your success in the show ring through various Industry Associations. Below is a guideline of what memberships to obtain before your first show. Visit the Points Systems page under Services to learn more about these programs. American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) In order to accumulate points for the Academy Medal and Master Medal Award Programs, and Saddle Time, the RIDER must be a member of ASHA. Legacy Staff will submit your Medal Points. Membership is valid from December 1, 20xx-November 30, 20xx, and must be renewed annually. Cost is $30 for a Junior Member (under 18 on Dec. 1), and $70 for a Senior Member (over 18 on Dec. 1) Go to https://www.asha.net/becomeamember/register/to register/renew online. Once registered, please provide the Legacy Office with a copy of your ASHA Membership Card for our records. United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) If you would like to become a USEF Letter Athlete, the RIDER must be a member of USEF, and send in an application for the program. The RIDER is responsible for recording and submitting the required information to USEF. Membership is valid from December 1, 20xx November 30, 20xx, and must be renewed annually (or every three years if you choose that option-see below). 20

Industry Membership Guidelines Cost is $55 for Juniors and Seniors per year or $165 for three years for the membership, and $15 per year for the application fee. Go to https://www.usef.org/_iframes/memberservices/membership/join Renew.aspx to register/renew your membership online. Once registered, please provide the Legacy Office with a copy of your USEF Membership Card for our records. American Saddlebred Association of the Carolinas (ASAC) If you would like to accumulate points for the ASAC High Point Awards, the RIDER must be a member of ASAC. Legacy Staff will submit your High Point Nomination Form and Record Forms. Membership is valid from January 1, 20xx-December 31, 20xx, and must be renewed annually.
