FROM THE GOAL New Jersey Dare Devils Newsletter Reaching Goals Through Hockey October 9, 2018 OCTOBER 13, 2018 SPLIT SQUAD PRACTICE 8:15 AM & 9:00 AM LEVEL UP TRAINING 12:30 PM WELCOME TO FRANKENFEST 2018
ANDY S SLAP SHOT Our tenth annual Frankenfest tournament was held this past weekend. Based on the feedback I got from our families and the families of visiting teams this year s event was spectacular! I d like to thank the team that made this weekend possible. Thank you, Angie Donnelly for organizing the entire weekend. Your guidance and determination once again paved the way for us all. Thank you, Karen Niemann for throwing a great Halloween party for approximately 500 people. Unfortunately, this year s venue, the rink, was a little cramped but we were able to pull it off. We fed everyone, had trick or treating, danced to the music of a great DJ and did some family skating. Thank you to our welcome table committee of Kristin, Dawn Lee, Lisa, Judy and Donna that put in a full day on Saturday/Sunday handing out t shirts, listening to the visiting team s questions and concerns and managing the locker room situation. Wow you guys did great. Special thanks to Dawn Lee for managing the locker rooms this year as we had many situations that needed personal attention. Thank you to our tricky tray team, Susan, Pamela, Maureen, Diane and her Sisters. You guys broke a record for profit by over $2,500 bring in close to $5,000. Wow! As always, thank you to Patti and Andrea for running the hospitality room. This year s room was delicious as always. I think I put on 5 pounds eating donuts, bagels and candy. Thank you to our setup team, Ian, Mario and Len for moving tables, hanging signs and putting up with the many bosses you had on Saturday morning. Ian, thank you for getting the BBQ situation under control! Thank you to Julie Benoff for t-shirt sales on Sunday and a special thank you to the Junior Coaches that came to help out where needed. Without our dedicated coaching staff lead by Steve Ritter we would not be able to pull off a schedule of 30 plus games. Steve, Myles, Mario, Brendon and Chip, thank you for guiding our players and making them the best they can be. I love our new, retro jerseys. They look great! Frank and Karen, thank you for capturing all the special moments of the tournament and making our team your number one priority. Frank, I forgot to take the team picture of the York Polar Bears. You gave me one job and I failed you. Special thanks to Anthony Ostlund for your t shirt and patch original designs! We received rave reviews on your artwork. I want you all to know that we once again threw a magnificent event! Along with hard work you need funding. All of you that helped raise money this season especially at the golf outing should be very proud that your hard work bringing money into the team went for such a great event. We were told that our tournament is the best ASHA tournament in the country! I was pretty busy this weekend so I was not able to see all the games and jot down some fun facts of the 4 games our team played. I did notice that both our B and B/C teams played well and won all 4 of the games. Great way to start the season! Level up training October 13 and 27 at 12:30 pm
ANDY S SLAP SHOT On Saturday Coach Myles will be hosting chalk talk for all senior level players that want to participate. Please be dressed and ready by 8:40 am. Recap from our parent meeting on September 29 th The team instituted a Code of Conduct policy for the 2018/2019 season. Parent/Guardians are asked to review the Code of Conduct with their player and sign and return to the team. Both the parent/guardian and player are asked to either sign or initial the last page. I will have more copies of the Code of Conduct at practice if you didn t receive one at the meeting. Parent responsibility and the need for someone designated by the family to be at the rink during practice is required. Many time s a player has to come off the ice for various reasons and it s the parent/guardian s responsibility to be there to assist. If you have to leave the rink for any reason please appoint another parent to assist your player. Parent participation was encouraged again this year. Unfortunately, we have the same group of parent s volunteering and assisting with the various activities. I would like to see some of the new families step up to participate and give a fresh look to what we do. We reported that this year s golf outing netted the team $51,966. We have risen over $306,000 for the team over the past 7 years. This season we are instituting a rule that each family must sell the equivalent of $250 worth of sponsorship or raffle ticket sales or write a check to the Dare Devils for $250. As I said at the meeting, with a team of 61 players and approximately 75 coaches we should be generating over $75,000 each year for the team. Kathy Kientz will chair the holiday party this year on December 22 nd. If you re interested in helping out, please see her at practice. The Buffalo Tournament is scheduled for November 10/11. See the newsletter for hotel information. If you haven t paid your registration fee please do so at practice. Fees for this season remain at $200 per player payable to the NJ Dare Devils and an addition fee of $50 to USA Hockey.
