The championship will take place on Sunday May 19, 2013 at York College located at 94-20 Guy R. Brewer Blvd in Jamaica Queens, NY. We would like to thank you for your support throughout the years and without your help, our event would never had lasted this long. Please come and join us, to celebrate the love we have for traditional karate-do. Our championship is a New York Traditional Karate League, sanction event and the goal is to provide quality tournaments in the United States. The league has done a lot of great things and continues to recognize and honor our dedicated athletes, officials and staff from our karate community for their participation in our events. Our championship will begin at 9:00am with our opening ceremonies follow by the weapons divisions. Winners of the adult grand champion Kata and Kumite will receive the Grand Champion Awards from Master Toyotaro Miyazaki. Competition as always, promises to be as exciting and challenging as ever. I hope that you can join us and be a part of our history. In order for the competition to run smoothly, we need your help by pre-registering for this event. To avoid a $20.00 administrative late fee, applications and competition fees must be received by Friday, May 17, 2013. Trimmed nails required. White shirt, blue tie, navy blue jacket, gray slacks, black shoes. Only Kata from a traditional Japanese or Okinawan style are permitted. 15 and under simultaneous match kata, 16 and up single katas. Beginner/intermediate contestants must perform kata of appropriate rank. All divisions can perform the same kata, with the exception of 14 and up advanced contestants {brown and black belts}. 14-17 advanced contestants can perform the same kata until the {medal round} semifinals. During this round they must perform a different kata. 14-17 that advances to the final round can repeat or perform any kata. Advanced contestants may perform any traditional kata. All advanced contestants 18 and over cannot repeat kata. Therefore must perform a different kata in each round. Traditional weapons of proper weight and design will be permitted: Only Traditional Kobudo weapons like the Bo, Sai, Tonfa, Eku are allowed. Modify WKF / USA Karate Rules 13 and under is 1 minutes stop time, 14 and over is 1 ½ minute stop time. 18-34 Black belts is 2 minutes stop time, 35 and over is 2 minutes running time. Uncontrolled techniques will result in penalty or disqualification. Protective equipment for hand, feet, groin & mouthpieces are Mandatory. Safety glasses with a restraining band will be allowed in kumite. Head gear and WKF approved chest protector is highly recommended. Only Coaches with proper ID and attire will be allowed on the competition floor. Coaches permit for the day can be acquired. Cost $20 The Tournament Director and Division Controller reserves the right to change, add or combine divisions. All fees are non-refundable.

Directions to York College 94-20 Guy R. Brewer Blvd Jamaica, NY USA Automobile Take the Grand Central Parkway (GCP) to Parsons Boulevard Exit (Exit 17 east and 16 west). From the west, make a right at the traffic light onto Parsons (opposite from the east). This route is marked by green York College signs. Follow Parsons till it merges with Archer Avenue. Long Island Railroad is directly in front of you. Make a left at the light onto Archer. Heading east on Archer, Guy R. Brewer Boulevard is the third light. Make a right onto Guy Brewer, parking lot is on your left. From JFK or LGA take the Van Wyck Expressway (I-678) to the Liberty Avenue Exit (4). From the north make a left onto Liberty to head east. This route is marked by green York College signs. Pass under the JFK Airtrain trestle heading east on Liberty. You will pass under the Long Island Railroad and York's FDA building on your left. Follow Liberty to Guy R. Brewer Boulevard and make a left. The parking lot is on your right. Alternatively, you may also take the Long Island Expressway to exit 23 (Kissena Boulevard) and take that south. It will turn into Parsons Boulevard. Follow Parsons till it merges with Archer Avenue. Long Island Railroad is directly in front of you. Make a left at the light onto Archer. Heading east on Archer, Guy R. Brewer Boulevard is the third light. Make a right onto Guy Brewer, parking lot will be on your left. Mass Transit From Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens Subway E, J, & Z Trains terminate at Parsons-Archer/Jamaica Center. Exit your train at the easternmost exit (159th & Parsons Blvd) and walk one block east. Cross under Long Island Rail Road trestle (160th Street) and use the entrance on your left at the traffic light (look for the arch shaped sculpture). York College by Bus Parsons/Archer - Jamaica Center is served by the following bus lines: Q4, Q5, Q25/34, Q30, Q31, Q42, Q44, Q54, Q65, Q83, Q84, Q85, Q110, Q111, Q112, Q113, N4.
