Flies and tackle are not required to bring as guides have all of the tackle necessary for your trip. You are welcome to bring your own tackle as long as baggage is under the required 50lbs. weight limit. Total baggage weight cannot exceed 50lbs
Fly's and Lures 1. Johnson Silver Minnow (all sizes) 2. Buck Tails (small to ridiculous) 3. Spinner Baits (large double blade) 4. Spoons (medium to large) 5. Soft Plastics (bright colors) 6. GenX Bunny flies (red / White) 7. Midnight Sun (Pat Elhers) 8. Umpqua Pike Fly (chartreuse) Catch and Release: Please note: Because of the large size and old age of the Alaskan pike, MSTPA practices a strict policy of catch and release of all Northern pike. We also promote and require our guests to use single, barbless hooks on all lures. In the interest of preserving the fishery all leaders are hand tied by the guides using 65lbs. wire without clips. They have proven in our fishery to have the lowest failure ratio, which is very important to us when you have your fish of a life time on. All pike are landed by hand by the guide. The Pikes length and girth will be measured (not weighed), photographed and released. Our guides have developed handling techniques to minimize stress to the fish. The length and girth measurements are utilized along with the Monas calculation to acquire estimated weights. We fish six anglers per trip, making less pressure on the fishery.
Travel Information Fly into Anchorage on Friday night. Stay over night in a hotel. We recommend: o Holiday Inn Express o Embassy Suites o Captain Cook Hotel If you need any extra supplies. The stay over night is the night to make arrangements. Call 907.717.3722 for any questions. On morning of your trip you will fly into a village near the house boat on a charter flight. Take a shuttle or your taxi to charter. Info on the charter flight will be emailed to you before your trip. A Midnight Sun representative will meet you in anchorage at the charters office and help with your departure. The charter flight will take you to a village near the houseboat. A shuttle boat that will bring you to the houseboat will then pick you up. You may or may not fish this evening depending on the time you arrive at the houseboat. When you depart the houseboat (via shuttle boat), you will leave early in the morning. This helps insure but does not guarantee that you will make all of your connecting flights home. IMPORTANT: We are extremely familiar to Alaska and its hindrances. Sometimes there is nothing you can do about weather. We have many delays per season. There is nothing anyone can do about weather delays. All that can be done is wait for the weather to change. This sometimes can take days This is why we recommend that you purchase travelers insurance. We recommend that you make your returning flights no earlier than 10:00pm. We do recommend that you stay over night again in anchorage in case of weather or mechanical delays. Remember that you are in a remote part of the world and delays happen. Often if you are waiting that means everything has gone perfectly. Bring snacks and refreshments, as conveniences may not be available. Be sure to pack your rain gear and medications on your carry on luggage. Communications are inconsistent. If you need to have communication during your adventure rent a satellite phone. Surveyors Exchange rents Iridium phones in Anchorage.
We will provide your domestic style beers (Bud, PBR, Miller etc.) at your request. We will also provide wines Chardonnay and Cabernet at your request. Please include the quantities, as shipping in the bush is expensive and will be exact. You must transport your own hard liquor, which we recommend you purchase in Anchorage. If you have any special requests as far as soda pop please include them as well. If we are not able to get exactly the brand you requested we will substitute based on availability. You will need to check with the airline you will be flying with for rules and regulations regarding transporting alcoholic beverages. If no requests then assumption will no pop, beer or wine are required. Signature and Date Thank you!
