NCVF VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS Sanctioned Event

2018 NCVF COLLEGIATE CLUB VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS Conducted by the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation (NCVF) in cooperation with USA Volleyball (USAV) St Louis, Missouri April 12-14, 2018 Welcome to the 34 th Annual NCVF Collegiate Club Volleyball Championships and welcome to St Louis, Missouri. The competition takes place within the St Louis Convention Center Americas Center with the championship matches being contested in the Dome. Tournament T-shirts are available for purchase in the vendor area throughout the tournament. Food concessions are also available within the confines of the convention center. Teams will not be allowed to bring food or beverages (except for bottled water & athletic drinks) into the facility. The three-day competitive format has a total of 456 teams across 10 divisions. In the Women s Divisions there are 216 total teams: 48 Division I teams, 48 Division IAA teams, 36 Division IAAA teams, 36 Division II teams and 48 Division III teams. Complimenting the women s field is the Men s field with 240 total teams: 48 Division I teams, 48 Division IAA teams, 48 Division IAAA teams 48 Division II teams and 48 Division III teams. Tournament flow charts are included which explains the round format and progression of teams through the three-day event. Results are available online and via computer stations in the Results Area located near the Championship Desk. All matches consist of the best of three rally score sets; the first two sets are played to 25 points, with the deciding set to 15 points, all sets without a cap. Individual medals (Gold and Silver) will be awarded to the champions and runners up of the Gold Flight of each of the ten divisions of play. FOLLOW THE SEED FORMAT The tournament has adopted and honored the original format of the tournament whereas teams follow the seed based on results as team progress through the tournament field. Teams retain their original pool seed as they progress through the preliminary rounds. In the case where a lower seeded team moves up and takes over a higher-seeded team s rank, they take over and progress into the next level of play with that higher seed. The tournament s most intense round of play occurs during the Challenge Round, when the second and third place finishers from the first round of pool play in all divisions face off to determine who moves up into each division s gold medal championship flight. This unique twist allows teams an opportunity to escape a pool that may have mistakenly been heavily weighted during the initial seeding process. NOTE: For all 48 team divisions, a Silver Bracket challenge match will be contested on Friday night. Teams that end up in this bracket will complete a challenge match to compete in the Silver Bracket (winner) or the Silver Consolation (loser). Check your schedule before you leave the playing venue. TIE-BREAKING PROCEDURES FOR ALL TOURNAMENT PLAY All ties within pool play (round robin) will be determined statistically as explained below. However, no team(s) that are in the hunt for the Gold Flight of their respective division will be eliminated via statistics, but rather will be involved in one 25-point rally score playoff set (switch at 13), where necessary. Anytime only two teams are tied, the head-to-head match result is used to determine the winner. This is not considered a statistical determination. 2018 NCVF Collegiate Club Volleyball Championships St Louis, MO

Below are the pool ranking statistics for teams to be ranked statistically within their pools: 1. Set Ratio - All sets won divided by all sets played 2. Points Ratio - All points scored divided by all points scored against Whenever two ratios of the same type are compared, a higher ratio will result in a higher ranking. Pool Ranking Statistics are used sequentially in the following circumstances: If the head-to-head match ratio records do not initially break ties, each team s overall pool set ratio and if necessary, the overall points will be compared. If this still results in a deadlock, a coin flip will be used. ONE POSITION ADVANCING TO GOLD CHAMPIONSHIPS: If two teams are tied for one position, the head-to-head match results will determine the advancing team. If three teams are tied for one position and the match records are identical (3-way split), the pool ranking statistics will be used to seed the teams. The team with the higher rank will automatically advance and officiate the 25-point tiebreak set match between the two remaining teams. The winner of that play-off match will advance to the next stage of the Gold Championship. TWO POSITIONS ADVANCING TO GOLD CHAMPIONSHIPS: If three teams are tied for two positions, the pool ranking statistics will determine the ranking order. The higher ranked team will automatically advance and officiate the 25-point set between the two remaining teams. The winner of the play-off match will advance to the next stage of the Gold Championship. If the teams are tied based on the pool ranking statistics, then a 3-way coin toss will be conducted (odd coin wins) with the winner advancing on after officiating this one set 25-point play-off match between the two remaining teams. The play-off winner will advance to the next stage of the Gold Championship. THREE TEAMS TIED NO PLAYOFF NECESSARY If three teams are tied at 2-1, then no payoff will be necessary. Teams will be ranked according to pool ranking statistics. All teams advance. If a division changes to a 5-team pool, tie breaking rules situation will be provided to the involved teams. REDUCED BELOW SIX PLAYERS Should a team be reduced below six players due to injury or sickness or some other extenuating circumstances, they will be allowed to legitimately play and continue in the tournament. The injured/sick individual(s) cannot re-enter the same set in which they were removed if play forced a team to continue below six players, but may, if deemed healthy enough, continue to play in subsequent sets. The team reduced below six will have to play with what is best described as a hole in the line-up, which means when that position is called upon to serve or play front row, there is a vacancy. When rotating into the serving position, the hole results in an instant side-out and a rally scoring point for the opposing team. When this position rotates into the front row, only two legitimate players can legally block and attack at the net until the hole rotates into the back row. WARM-UPS Scheduled teams for each match will be allowed a minimum of 10 minutes following the coin flip even if the preceding match extends beyond the allotted time. Teams will be allowed 2 minutes ball handling immediately following the finish of the previous match during which the coin toss will take place. Team hitting will be conducted separately; 4 minutes to the receiving team including serving and 4 2018 NCVF Collegiate Club Volleyball Championships St Louis, MO

minutes for the serving team including serving. Note: Serving will be included in each team s individual warm-up. SUMMARY: At the conclusion of pool play, teams will be ranked sequentially by: [1] match record, [2] set record and [3] ratio of points won divided by point lost. The ranking statistics will be computed based on all pool matches. In the event of ties based on match record, the first tie-breaking criteria are head-to-head match record. If this fails to resolve the tie, the pool ranking statistics will be used. In the case of a 2-way tie, the head-to-head match result will resolve the tie. In the event of a 3-way tie, the pool ranking statistics will determine the relative pool finish. Tie break sets will only be contested for the teams advancing toward the Gold Championship (Flights and/or Brackets). One- 25-point playoff set will be played immediately following the completion of all matches in the pool if there is a tiebreaker that is needed. Do not leave the venue unless you have confirmed with the Championship Desk that there is not a tie in your pool. The tiebreaker will be played immediately at the completion of all matches in that pool and if a team is not present, the match will be forfeited. TEAM OFFICIATING RESPONSIBILITIES The responsibilities for each team are designated in the schedule and at results stations. Please check the online schedule and results stations to determine and confirm your playing and officiating responsibilities. Each team is responsible for providing two line judges and three scorers (an official scorekeeper, a scoreboard flipper and a Libero tracker) THE ASSIGNED REFEREES WILL GOVERN THE MATCH TIME SCHEDULE. Matches will not begin before their assigned times unless approved by the tournament director and all involved teams. Late teams will not be given any grace times unless approved by the tournament director. Match time is forfeit time for set one. Another 10-minute grace period is allowed before set two, and if that expires, the match becomes an official default. Failure to provide officials as assigned will result in the following actions: 1. 1st Offense: For every minute the officiating team is late to check in with the official, or does not appear, one point shall be assessed and given to their next opponent up to a 25-0 forfeit of the first set. This time calculation will begin at the designated warm-up time ten minutes prior to the time when the assigned match begins. Teams must check in with the match officials to avoid any penalties. 2. Additional Offenses: Forfeiture of assigned team s next set. The objective is to have 100% of all matches covered by the properly assigned teams. 3. If a team has no remaining matches in the tournament and does not show to officiate as scheduled, a two-year suspension from this event may be imposed. The suspension may also be applied to the local league/conference in which the team plays. 4. During bracket play on Saturday, the losing team must stay and officiate on the court on which they just completed play and cannot leave until released by the officials.
