LOCAL: 1 ST CYCLE OF SECONDARY ESO 2 (PAGE 1) 1. Match the definition to the extreme sport. Hang gliding Bungee jumping Caving Rock climbing Sky diving White water rafting Skate boarding Surfing 1. An extreme sport under the ground. You go through tunnels and passages. It s usually very dark and you sometimes see lots of bats! Some people don t like it because they get frightened. 2. First you get a very long strong piece of elastic and find a bridge that s really high. You jump from a bridge in this extreme sport with the elastic tied to you. 3. You can do this in cities. You only need a long piece of wood or plastic with wheels and if you re good you can travel fast. Lots of teenagers like this sport. 4. People do this on mountains. You need boots and rope, and you should never do this alone and it s better to do this sport in the spring or autumn because the temperature is too high in summer and in the winter there s a lot of bad weather. 5. You can do this in water. You go in a boat along rapids. You need a helmet and it s best if you are a good swimmer in case you fall out of the rubber boat. 6. For this extreme sport you sit in a small aircraft that looks like a chair and jump from a mountain into the wind. If the wind is strong you can travel for miles! 7. In this extreme sport you jump from a plane with a parachute. It s not for people who are afraid of heights! You need to be careful when you land because you can hurt yourself if you don t land well 8. You need a board, a windy day and lots of big waves in the sea for this extreme sport. You have to stand on the board and catch a wave so you can travel on it. Points /8

LOCAL: 1 ST CYCLE OF SECONDARY ESO 2 (PAGE 2) 2. Read the paragraph about an extreme sport. Write the verbs in the past tense. 1. Last year at the end of the school course our class (1) (decide) to celebrate the beginning of the holidays by going on an extreme sport adventure. We didn t know which extreme adventure we (2) (want) to do so we did a search on the Internet of the different options. There were so many! 2. In the end we thought the best thing was for the class to vote which one to do. We (3) (write) the names on small shoes boxes and made a hole for everyone to put their vote in. We (4) (have) extreme water sports like kayaking, white water rafting and hydrospeeding (that s like white water rafting but you do it alone); extreme sports in the sky like parachuting, hand gliding and sky diving or land sports like climbing, trekking and caving. 3. Some classmates didn t want to go caving because they (5) (say) it was dangerous and we could get lost and others didn t like the idea of jumping out of a plane so after voting the most popular (6) (be) water sports. 4. We (7) (go) in October when the rivers were full of water and the rapids looked terrible! I was a bit afraid but I put my helmet on and life jacket and (8) (get) into the raft. There were ten of us in the raft. At the beginning it was really calm and we didn t move much because we hadn t arrived at the rapids. When we reached the rapids everybody (9) (start) screaming because the raft was moving a lot, I saw my teacher who looked white! 5. As we moved along the rapids we got wetter and wetter and moved faster and faster - but it was fantastic. I (10) (love) it and wanted to do it again but my teacher said he would never go in a raft again! 6. The next day we went kayaking in small boats for two people. I (11) (enjoy) that too but the best (12) (be) the white water rafting. It makes you feel amazing when you go through the rapids so fast! Points /12

LOCAL: 1 ST CYCLE OF SECONDARY ESO 2 (PAGE 3) 3. Read the story again then answer the questions. 1. How did they find information about different options? 2. Why did the class vote? 3. Why didn t some children like some of the ideas for the sports adventure? 4. Why did some children start screaming when they were doing white water rafting? 5. What happened the next day? Points /10
