Dear Teachers, Parents and Dancers, BrosnaCan Academy welcomes you to the UK Open Championships, run under the rules of OPIDF (Open Platform Irish Dance Federation). A complete set of rules and regulations can be found online at: www.openplatformirishdancing.com. Please read these rules before entering the event. We have secured the wonderful ARK Putney Academy in South West London. The performance facility has the capacity for 700 people and is complete with two level tiered seating, a large raised stage and lighting. There is extensive car parking on-site. We will have three adjudicators judging each championship and competitors will be placed in all competitions. Our programmes will display competitors names and numbers and every dancer will receive a certificate of participation. Results will be available for purchase after each championships. We will be holding a marvellous overall champion competition (which will run at all OPIDF events). The winners from each championship will compete against fellow championship winners for that grade in a step-down the line dance off, to be the overall grade champion. There will be a variety of hot and cold food/drink available to purchase throughout the day. We will have live music provided by the talented Alan Burns. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone to our 1st OPIDF event and our UK Open Championships. We wish you all the best of luck, Eva Brosnan & Neesha Morris BrosnaCan Academy
This is a brief overview of the OPIDF rules. A full set of rules are available at www.openplatformirishdancing.com Age Divisions The competitors age on January 1st determines their age division e.g. If the competitor is 7 on January the 1st, their division will be under 7 (U7). Competitions with 32 or more competitors entered will be split into two sections. Competitions will be split based on date of birth prior to the event. Championship Event Entries OPIDF are an open platform federation, therefore, any dancer, any school or independent dancer may attend and compete. OPIDF reserves the right to refuse entry. OPIDF has an online system for entries. All entries must be submitted only through the OPIDF system by teachers. Entry fees will be taken by PayPal. Cash will not be accepted. OPIDF does not accept entries after the pre-pay deadline for the event, unless the OPIDF committee judges that there is an exceptional circumstance. Entries are non-refundable. Each championship (including solo round) is to be entered under the grade of the competitors Reel. For example, if a dancer is Primary for their Reel and Beginner for their solo round, they will dance Primary for the entire competition. Treble Reel is a separate competition to the championship and can be entered according to grade. OPIDF only runs competitions with a minimum of 3 competitors. Competitions with fewer than 3 competitors will be combined with another age of the corresponding grade. The syllabus provided is provisional until all entries have been received. OPIDF does not permit teachers or anyone who runs their own dancing classes to compete at OPIDF events. Competition Rules OPIDF committee can override an adjudicators decision if OPIDF rulings have not been applied. Competitors who are not in line when the competition starts will not be eligible to dance in that competition. Under no circumstances should dancers be approached whilst in the line up, with no exception for teachers. A stage assistant will be present. Solo and treble reel competitions are to be run in numerical order only, ascending from 1. Championships will have starting numbers in the programme for fairness. Solo competitions will run on a pickup system for all competitors. Competitors will dance in groups of two and there will be an 8-bar break between each group of dancers to give time to retract back to the line. Treble reel competitions will run on a pickup system, with no 8-bar break. Championships and under 5 competitions will not be run on a pick-up system. After the second round is completed for each championship, dancers will be called up for a final adjudicator line-up and certificate presentation.
