Duxbury Middle School WEEKLY NEWS STRIVE FOR SUCCESS EVERY DAY IN A CARING, RESPECTFUL, LEARNING COMMUNITY 71 ALDEN STREET, DUXBURY MA 02332 PHONE: 781-934-7640 W EBSITE: WWW.DUXBURY.K12.MA.US DECEMBER 14, 2015 Important Dates December 15th 7 & 8th Grade Bands and Jazz Band Concert th Dec. 24th Jan. 1st Winter Break January 6th School Committee Meeting This year, the Duxbury Middle School community participated in the Holiday Gift Giving Program through the Interfaith Council. It was overwhelming to see what may have been our biggest contribution yet! With over $1300 in gift cards, movie tickets, jewelry, and the numerous games, dolls, and clothes it was truly heartwarming to see the thoughtfulness and generosity exhibited by our students, families, and staff members. At a time when people are feeling the stress of managing their own responsibilities, it was amazing to see that so many took the time to participate and contribute in making the holidays a little more joyous for others in the community. Wishing you all a very happy holiday season and a wonderful 2016 from all of us at the DMS Guidance Department!

PTO News The next DMS PTO Meeting has been changed to January 14 th at 10:00 AM in the DHS Breadboard. Congratulations to Mrs. Casale s classroom who were the winners of the PTO Membership Drive! Thanks for supporting us. We would also like to thank FarFar s Danish Ice Cream Shop for donating 25 ice cream cone gift certificates as the prize for the drive. This is the 2 nd year in a row they have donated the prize & we appreciate their support! Stop by and show them your support but do so by December 26 th when they close for the season! The PTO hosted our holiday teacher appreciation after school soup & sandwich event last Wednesday. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves & we hope it kept them warm & showed them how much we appreciate their hard work. Events such as these & middle school library events like the upcoming author skype s made possible by the generous parents of DMS. Not sure if you re a member? Just email Mary-Anne O Donovan at mimiodonovan@comcast.net to double check. Thanks for your support! Happy Holidays! Mary-Anne O Donovan & Tanya Trevisan DMS PTO Co-Presidents DMS School Council Openings DMS has parent openings for our School Council. Interested candidates please submit a letter of interest and a brief personal or professional bio to School Council Elections. Letters may be emailed to the DMS Principal, Blake Dalton at bdalton@duxbury.k12.ma.us or dropped off in the DMS office.

MORNING STUDENT DROP-OFF SAFETY RULES Thank you so much for making the morning drop-off go so smoothly, however, we would like to remind you of our drop-off expectations. We do expect everyone to help us provide a safe and efficient drop-off. The Student Drop-off area is in FRONT of Duxbury Middle School where the ORANGE TRAFFIC CONES are located. We are asking that you: Please pull all the way to the far corner where the Student Drop-Off sign is located in FRONT on the Middle School. This allows as many cars as possible to unload. If traffic is moving very slowly, continue to move forward to the corner before letting students exit your vehicle. Please do NOT pass cars in front of the Middle School. Students do get out on the passenger side, making it a dangerous situation if you pass them. The cones are there to make it one lane! Please do NOT let students get out of the cars when your car is on the side of the middle school. This is an active traffic zone with cars passing your vehicles. Wait until you have turned the corner and are in FRONT of the Middle School where the traffic cones are located. Please do NOT travel in the right hand lane to let your children out in the parking lot. It is not safe for them to cross through the drop-off lane and this holds up the drop-off process. Drop off is in the left lane only. Thank you very much for your cooperation.
