Seventh Dan and Eighth Dan These black belt ranks are political achievement awards for what you have done for your style and the martial arts in general. VIII. Ninth Dan Five years after your retirement and your martial art style is still taught. IX. Tenth Dan Twenty years have passed since your death and your martial art style is still taught.
