Duds to Dazzle Join us for the 3rd Annual 4-H Duds to Dazzle! The 4-H Duds to Dazzle Clothing & Textile Competition allows participants to utilize the knowledge and skills learned in their clothing and textile projects, while increasing awareness of the impact of the clothing and textile industry on the environment, specifically the waste stream. In the competition, teams of 4-H members will redesign and re-purpose discarded garments or textiles into new, viable consumer products. WHEN: Saturday, April 21 WHERE: The 4-H Office Roycroft Print Shop (21 S. Grove Street) Objectives: Allow participants to exhibit knowledge and skills gained through their 4-H Clothing & Textiles project by designing, constructing, and presenting a finished product. Allow participants learning opportunities. Promote teamwork, Help 4-Hers gain experience in public speaking, Provide leadership opportunities for young people. Teams will be composed of 3-5 youth, ages 8 and up. Members may be from any club, group, independent members or a mix. Cloverbud members (age 5-7) will be allowed to participate as well but will be working on a different activity during the competition. There are two main parts to this competition: construction & presentation. Many different skills will be utilized for this event: sewing, crafting, speaking, organizing, creativity, leadership, etc. Online registration is required and the event will be limited to 12 teams (first come, first served). The committee has worked on some revisions of scoring and created a new, helpful evaluation rubric to guide the judging of the event. These resources will be posted on the 4-H Website when finalized. Dear 4-H Members and Volunteers, I want to thank you all for making my job and time as a 4-H Educator a wonderful experience. At the end of March Brian, Hollis and I will be relocating to Sonoma County, CA, back to where I was born and raised. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with you all over the last 4 years. The passion I have witnessed from you all for our program is incredibly inspiring and has been a driving force behind the success I have had in my position. The genuine kindness and friendship offered to help me navigate and learn the ways of Western New York and NYS 4-H will never be forgotten. I truly hope you continue to explore all 4-H has to offer and remain a part of our program for many years to come. Thank you again, and best of luck in all your 4-H endeavors! Sincerely,

4-H is at the Botanical Gardens are you in need of some community service hours? We have shifts available from 10-4 each day, March 10 to April 8, 2018, call Tammi at 652-5400 ext. 132 if you would like to volunteer to talk about 4-H and interact with the public. We are looking for youth and adults to help tell the 4-H story to visitors. We have the opportunity to reach many people and educate about our program. If you have some bunnies, chickens, sheep, goats, ducks, etc. that you would be willing to put on display at the Botanical Gardens please contact Tammi as soon as possible. Or if you want to take an animal down for your shift you can do that too. Please contact Tammi quickly to reserve your time slot. You will learn about the science behind cookie making, flour, leavening, cold vs. warm dough and experience the how to by making your own cookie dough. Step 2 Participate in the actual cookie making. You will make a batch of cookies and select your best ones to be sold at auction and the 4-H member will have some to take home (to eat or freeze to exhibit at the fair). Location and date will be decided at a later date.
