It was GU s the first win over a ranked opponent since Nov. 11, 2012. Doubles Butler is the first BIG EAST player to reach 20 double-doubles since DePaul s Khara Smith, who registered 23 over 34 games in the 2005-06 season. Smith needed 31 games to reach the 20 double-double mark, tallying double-doubles in her four final games with the Blue Demons, Butler has played in 29 games so far this season. Close Calls The Hoyas have had a number of close calls this season with nine games decided by three points or less including six by two points and five of the eight in conference play. Addi onally, Georgetown has forced over me on three ocassions.

Head Coach Jim Lewis 1st season at GU 267-314 Overall Jim Lewis came to the Hilltop as the head coach in 2013. He has more than 40 years of experience at every level of the game including stops with Team USA, as well as in the WNBA, NCAA and high school. Most recently, the Virginia na ve was an assistant coach and scout for the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA. Lewis began his career as a men s basketball coach, serving as an assistant at Tennessee State University from 1969-70. He was also on staff at Gannon College (1970-71), Duke University (1971-76) and Tulane University (1976-81). A er a brief s nt coaching at South Lakes High School where he went 23-3 coaching All-Met Player of the Year and Georgetown alum Michael Jackson, Lewis switched over to the emerging women s game, being named the head coach at George Mason University in 1984. He led the Patriots for 14 seasons and was the winningest coach in both men s and women s basketball program history when he le, having compiled an overall record of 201-177 at George Mason. He coached the Green and Gold to eight winning seasons, including an appearance in the 1997 Preseason WNIT and led Mason through its inaugural season in the Colonial Athle c Associa on in 1985. During his me with the Patriots, Lewis also helped USA Basketball to four medals as an assistant on coaching staffs at the 1994 Jones Cup (gold), 1995 World University Games (silver), 1997 Junior World Championships (gold) and 1997 USA Interna onal Invita onal (gold). Lewis le the Patriots to become the first head coach of the Washington Mys cs of the WNBA, a role he served in for one season. In 2000, he returned to the collegiate ranks as the head women s coach at Fordham University for six seasons where he led two players to Atlan c 10 Most Improved Player Awards in 2003 and 2004 and four players to All-Conference recogni on. Including his me at Fordham and George Mason, Lewis has recorded a 257-295 record in 20 years as a collegiate head coach. His WNBA career con nued in 2006 as he served as an assistant coach for the Minnesota Lynx for one year and with the Indiana Fever for three seasons as the director of scou ng. Lewis helped the Fever win its first ever Eastern Conference Championship and reach the 2009 WNBA Finals before falling to the eventual champion Phoenix Mercury. A er a brief s nt as the head coach at T.C. Williams High School in his hometown of Alexandria, Va., where he went 22-1 and coached current-washington Mys c Tierra Ruffin-Pra, Lewis joined the staff at Georgia Tech University in 2010-11. He followed that by returning to George Mason, the place he began his career coaching women s basketball, for one year. Before his coaching career, Lewis was a four-year le erwinner at West Virginia University, compe ng in two NCAA Tournaments and one NIT, while earning his bachelor of science degree in journalism. A standout studentathlete, Lewis was awarded the William Randolph Hearst award for journalis c achievement as an undergrad. His 1964-65 freshman class was honored at West Virginia for breaking the color barrier at the University and he was the first African-American scholarship basketball player. A er gradua ng in 1968, he began his graduate work at University of Detroit and went on to earn his master s degree in physical educa on at Tennessee State. Lewis and his wife of 39 years, Karen, have two children, Jennifer and Christopher, who both live in Alexandria, Va. Jennifer received her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and went on to earn a master s degree from Columbia University. She is a physical therapist. Christopher was a two-year le erwinner at Harvard University. He is the vice president of a non-profit organiza on and was recently elected to the Alexandria School Board. Awards Sweep Georgetown swept the BIG EAST weekly women s basketball awards for the second me this season as Andrea White was tabbed the Player of the Week and Natalie Butler was named Freshman of the Week. The senior averaged 21.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals, while shoo ng 50 percent from the floor and hi ng all of her free-throw a empts. Butler maintained her hold as the conference s top rebounder following a week averaging 15.5 boards to go along with 14.5 points. So You Want To Be A Coach Jasmine Mo on was named to the Class of 2014 for the `So You Want To Be A Coach program run by the WBCA. Motton is a senior in the McDonough School of Business. She was a manager for three years before joining the squad as a player this past season. The objec ves of the So program are to increase the understanding and applica on of skills necessary to secure coaching posi ons in women s basketball, increase the understanding and awareness of competencies necessary for success in coaching, introduce female basketball players to coaches and administrators, raise awareness of the exis ng talent pool of female basketball players who have a passion and interest in coaching the game of women s basketball. ROW Natalie Butler was named the BIG EAST Conference Rookie of the Week for the eighth me a er two outstanding performances for the Blue & Gray. Butler averaged 16.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists for the Hoyas, including a game-high 19 points against Villanova on Wednesday. Along with the 19 points, Butler snagged 14 boards against the Wildcats. She followed that performance with a 14-point, eight-rebound, four-assist showing at Marque e on Saturday. Butler also added a pair of blocks against the Golden Eagles. Honor Roll Senior captain Andrea White was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll a er a solid week for the Blue & Gray. It was White s fi h nod to the honor roll this season and sixth award so far this year. White averaged 19.5 points and 8.0 rebounds over two games. She led the Hoyas in both contests with 21 points against DePaul and 18 at St. John s in a tough three-point loss, shoo ng 48.6 percent from the field. Weekly Again For the third-consecu ve week, Natalie Butler won the Rookie of the Week award and senior forward Andrea White was named to the weekly honor roll. Butler averaged 14.5 points and 14.0 rebounds in a 0-2 week for the Hoyas. It was her seventh Rookie of the Week award this season and eighth honor overall. White averaged 19.0 points and 12.0 rebounds. It was her fourth nod to the honor roll this season and fi h award this year overall. White has earned five spots on the honor roll in her career. Weekly Awards Natalie Butler won the Rookie of the Week award and senior forward Andrea White was named to the weekly honor roll. Butler averaged 14.5 points, 17.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 blocks in a 1-1 week for the Hoyas. It was her sixth Rookie of the Week award this season and seventh honor overall. White averaged 20.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals. It was her third nod to the honor roll this season and fourth award this year overall. White has earned four spots on the honor roll in her career. First BIG EAST Win Record In Georgetown s first BIG EAST win of the season against Butler, 85-79, the Hoyas registered their highest point total against a league foe since January 2009. GU came back from a 19-point deficit to pick up the victory. Weekly Awards Freshman center Natalie Butler won the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week award and senior forward Andrea White was named to the weekly honor roll. Butler maintained her spot as the league s top rebounder following a pair of doubledoubles. Against Creighton, Butler scored 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds before scoring 12 points and corralling 12 boards against Marque e. For the week, the freshman averaged 18 points, 12.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots. White tallied a double-double of 22 points, 11 rebounds against Marque e en route to averaging 17.5 points, 8.5 rebounds for the week. Working Over me They Hoyas aren t strangers to close games with three consecu ve trips to over me as well as four contests in a row being decided by two points. It marks the first me in program history that the Blue & Gray have played back-to-back over me games. Honor Roll Monday a er Florida was Natalie Butler s first nod to the honor roll this season, she has been the league s Rookie of the Week on four occasions. Butler posted her eighth double-double of the season leading the squad with 16 points and 18 rebounds in a 67-65 over me loss at the University of Florida on Saturday. Non-Conference Florida rounded out the non-conference schedule for the Blue & Gray with a mark of 6-6 overall. The schedule was grueling with trips to South Dakota State, Alaska, Yale and Puerto Rico. Addi onally, it included home games against solid opponents such as then-no. 10 Cal, Princeton and George Washington. Double-Doubles Double-doubles have come in bunches this season with freshman center Natalie Butler currently with 22 and senior forward Andrea White pos ng 11.

Island Life The Puerto Rico Classic was the first me the program played in Puerto Rico. The men s program was in San Juan earlier this season going 2-1. Weekly Sweep The squad swept the BIG EAST Conference Weekly awards for the first me this season. Senior forward Andrea White was named the Player of the Week, while freshman center Natalie Butler won the Rookie of the Week award. White scored a career-high 29 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in a 66-65 win at Yale last Tuesday. She shot 11-of-17 (.647) from the field while also managing three assists and two steals. Butler won the award again a er contribu ng 15 points and 11 rebounds in the Yale victory. She also blocked three shots. Award Winners Natalie Butler was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for the third me this season. Butler averaged 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Hoyas. She posted 17 points and eight boards in a 78-57 win over George Washington and followed that with 12 points and nine rebounds in a 77-68 loss to No. 10/11 Penn State. Ka e McCormick earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll a er another big week. She averaged 16.0 points and 5.0 rebounds and led the Hoyas against No. 10/11 Penn State with 17 points, all in the second half. McCormick made eight 3-pointers in the two contests. It marked her first career honor. Honor Roll Senior co-captain Andrea White was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. She was named the Most Outstanding Player at the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout a er averaging 19.5 ppg and 9.0 rpg in two Georgetown victories. Alaskan Honors Andrea White was named the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout Most Outstanding Player of the tournament a er a pair of outstanding performances. White, Natalie Butler and Ka e McCormick were all named to the Great Alaska Shootout All-Tournament Team. Butler also made history as her 35 total rebounds over two games broke the previous tournament record of 29 set in 1980 and 2011. Alaska The Great Alaskan Shootout marks the first me in program history that the Hoyas will play in the state of Alaska. Rookie of the Week x2 Natalie Butler was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for the second week in a row a er pos ng 14 points and five rebounds in a 66-64 victory over Princeton. It marked the second week in a row that she has won the award and the conference has given it out. Rookie of the Week Natalie Butler was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week a er an outstanding start to the season. It was the conference s first weekly awards of the 2013-14 season. Butler averaged 16.3 ppg and 13.7 rpg while pos ng three double-doubles to begin her college career. Butler led the Hoyas with 20 points and 13 boards at South Dakota State as well as 16 points and 15 rebounds in a loss to No. 10/11 California. Butler was the first BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for the Hoyas since Dominique Vitalis won it on February 11, 2013. Transfer Head Coach Jim Lewis announced on November 18 that freshman Shayla Cooper informed the University that she will no longer be part of the team and intends to transfer. Cooper, a 6-2 forward from Norcross High School in Norcross, Ga., played in the first two games of the season for the Hoyas. She averaged 16.0 ppg and 8.5 rpg while managing 3.5 apg and 32.5 minutes per contest. She will be playing at Ohio State University in the future. Walk-Ons Lewis added three walk-ons to the team. Seniors Kelly Comolli, Kelyn Freedman and Jasmine Mo on have all joined the squad to add talent and depth. Comolli is the captain of the tennis team, Freedman is the captain of the lacrosse squad and Mo on is a three-year basketball manager. Coaching Change Jim Lewis took over the program on October 24. He had just two week to prepare with the team for the first contest. He took over a er Keith Brown resigned a week prior. Captains Georgetown University Women s Basketball Head Coach Jim Lewis announced the 2013-14 team captains. Seniors Andrea White and Samisha Powell will lead the young team under the first-year head coach. BIG EAST Honors Freshman forward Shayla Cooper and senior forward Andrea White both earned BIG EAST Conference Preseason honors at the league s annual women s basketball media day held at Chelsea Piers in New York City. Cooper was named the conference s Preseason Rookie of the Year, while White earned a spot on the Preseason All-BIG EAST squad. Ranked Frosh This recrui ng class was ranked No. 9 in the Blue Star Report.

Schedule The non-conference schedule featured four NCAA Tournament qualifiers as well as two squads that competed in the WNIT. The conference opponents included four 2013 NCAA Tournament par cipants and two that earned a berth in the WNIT. Overall, the Blue & Gray will face 12 teams that appeared in the postseason a season ago. TV Games The Hoyas will have four games on na onal television including three appearances on FOX Sports1 and one on CBS College Sports. The squad will also appear on Sun Sports. WNBA Champs Two former Georgetown University women s basketball stars brought home some hardware as the pair along with the rest of the Minnesota Lynx won the WNBA Championship with a 3-0 series sweep over the Atlanta Dream. Rebekkah Brunson and Sugar Rodgers were both on the part of the squad that won the tle after an outstanding playoff run. Brunson is a 10-year WNBA vet, while Rodgers was in her rookie campaign a er being selected No. 14 overall in the dra. BIG EAST Preseason Rankings The Blue & Gray was selected to finish sixth in the conference with 36 points. Georgetown s highest preseason ranking was three years ago when the Hoyas were selected to finish third in the highly-compe ve league.
