ACC Player of the Week (9/3) 2018 Tiger Classic MVP 2018 Tiger Classic Best Setter LAST TIME OUT Duke split its past two ACC matches, falling to No. 25 Louisville in straight sets before outlasting Notre Dame in five. Louisville remained undefeated in conference competition and extended its overall win streak to six consecutive matches. The Cards raced to an early lead and never allowed Duke to find its rhythm. Three Blue Devils turned in career performances to help Duke hold off Notre Dame 3-2. Outside hitter Payton Schwantz turned in a career-high 22 kills, hitter/setter Andie Shelton notched her third double-double of the season, and middle blocker Leah Meyer matched her career-high 11 blocks. SHELTON MAKES IMMEDIATE IMPACT After four years at Pacific, graduate student Andie Shelton enrolled in Duke s Master of Liberal Studies program. Through 15 games, Shelton leads the team in assists (312) and service aces (21) while totaling 101 kills and hitting.247. She is also one of seven players nationally with three or more triple-doubles on the year. After leading the Blue Devils to a 3-0 weekend at the Tiger Classic, she earned ACC Player of the Week honors as announced by the league Monday, September 3. Shelton is the first Blue Devil to earn ACC Player of the Week recognition since middle blocker Jordan Tucker in 2016. The honor was Shelton s third of the week after garnering 2018 Tiger Classic MVP and tournament best setter accolades over the weekend. Shelton totaled 27 assists, 11 kills and 15 digs in the tournament opener versus USF Friday in Baton Rouge, La., notching Duke s first triple-double since Ali Hausfeld accomplished the feat in 2006. She then added a second triple-double September 4 against UNCG and a third October 7 at Notre Dame. Prior to matriculating at Duke, Shelton earned 2014 West Coast Conference Freshman Team honors, but did not see game action during the 2015 season. She returned to the floor as a redshirt sophomore in 2016 and was the Pacific s best setter, averaging a team-best 7.48 assists per set. As one of only two two-position players in the WCC in 2017, Shelton garnered All-WCC Honorable Mentions accolades. MEYER IN THE MIDDLE Redshirt junior middle blocker Leah Meyer continues to make her claim as one of the top middle blockers in program history. Over four seasons with the Blue Devils, Meyer has 756 career kills to her credit, averaging 2.73 per set while hitting.320 for her career. In addition, the Clarence, N.Y., native has racked up 331.0 total blocks, good for a 1.19 blocks-per-set average. In the Duke record books, Meyer ranks eighth all-time in hitting percentage and fourth in blocks per set. A 2017 and 2018 Preseason All-ACC selection, Meyer totaled 40 kills and 32.0 blocks in six matches this past season before she was sidelined due to injury. Meyer followed a standout freshman campaign with an exceptional sophomore season in 2016, leading the Blue Devils with 139 blocks to go along with 316 kills. She garnered 2016 AVCA All-East Coast Region and First Team All-ACC accolades after ranking sixth in the ACC and 35th nationally with a 1.31 blocks-per set average.
