Southwestern PA Area Agency on Aging SENIOR GAMES 2018 PETERS TOWNSHIP HIGH School MCMURRAY, pa tuesday, JUNE 19, 2018 "Rules of Play" Please have all cell phones turned off. Officials shall read the rules aloud prior to the start of each tournament. AAA and/or provider staff may not compete in the Games. PARTICIPANTS MUST PRE-REGISTER BY JUNE 8, 2018 FOR THE FOLLOWING EVENT SHUFFLEBOARD: The field is limited to 24 players only. All players must be pre-registered by June 8, 2018. Times for the first round games will be assigned prior to the event (by telephone or mail). Players must report to the shuffleboard area of the gymnasium at least 10 minutes prior to their scheduled game time. Games will be to 35 points, or 10-minute time limit. Rules will be posted at the game location. If a play-off round is needed to determine the medal winners for an event, the returning participant(s) must check-in with the AAA event officials to let the officials know that they are present and ready to play. (See Attachment A for Shuffleboard Court diagram) PRE-REGISTRATION IS RECOMMENDED BY JUNE 14, 2018, BUT NOT MANDATORY FOR THE FOLLOWING EVENTS 50-YARD DASH: There will be eighteen (18) divisions for Men and Women: 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89 and 90+. A First, Second, and Third place medal for each division will be presented. Men will begin competition at 10:00 a.m. Women will follow at 10:30 a.m. All participants should receive approval from their physician before entering the 50-Yard Dash competition. 1-MILE WALK: There will be eighteen (18) divisions; Men s and Women s ages 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89 and 90+. Judges will enforce the rule that one foot shall be in contact with the ground at all times. Running will disqualify an entrant. Following the event, a First, Second, and Third place medal for each division will be presented. Warm-up and cool-down periods will be made available. All participants should receive approval from their physician before entering the 1-Mile Walk

competition. BOCCE: Bocce will take place on a flat grass surface within a defined court / courts. The total court size will be 40 feet by 10 feet, with a 10 foot by 10 foot playing area at both ends. This is an individual competition with the division to be men and women. Women should report to the Bocce area within ½ hour after the Opening Ceremonies. Women's registrations will close to new participants at 10:30 a.m. Women's "roll off" will end at noon. Men's registrations will close to new participants at 1:30 p.m. Men's roll-off will end by 3:00 p.m. A person will be assigned to each court to act as scorekeeper and judge. Equipment will be a Bocce Set to include eight (8) bocce balls (4 to be of contrasting color) and one (1) Jack Ball (usually white or yellow and smaller than a bocce ball). Game Game rules and regulations have been adjusted to promote a more efficient game within the time frame allotted. 1. One player will throw the Target Jack Ball onto the playing area at the opposite end of the court. If the Jack Ball does not reach the playing area after two tries, the judge will be allowed to place the Jack to the point closest to the line inside the playing area for time sake. 2. The same player that threw the Jack will then throw one of their bocce balls in an effort to come as close as possible to the Target Jack. 3. The opposing player will then throw one of their bocce balls. Players will continue alternating turns until all four balls are thrown. 4. The players will then move to the opposite ends of the court and continue play, alternating Jack throwers. (See Rule 1) 5. Single elimination will determine the first, second, and third place in each category. (Men and Women) 6. The hitting of an opponent s ball or Jack ball is acceptable. 7. Out of Bounds: If the ball is hit or thrown out of the playing area, it is out of play and will be removed by the judge. If the Jack Ball is hit out of the playing area, it will be returned to a point closest to the exit point and play will continue. 8. A bocce ball will be out of play if: a. it touches or goes beyond the boundary lines. b. it fails to reach the playing area. c. it is hit out of bounds by own or opposing bocce ball. Scoring 1. Once all the balls have been thrown, two points will be awarded to the bocce ball closest to the Target Jack and one point will be awarded to the bocce ball next closest, regardless of color. 2. Judges will determine point(s) with the agreement of players. In case of discrepancies, the Coordinator of the event will have final judgment. 3. The first player to reach 11 points with a two-point lead or be ahead after a twenty (20) minute duration will be determined to be the winner of the match. A five minute play warning will be given before the end of a match. 4. Players will be permitted to finish a round begun. A First, Second, and Third place medal for each division will be presented. BASKETBALL TOSS: There will be eighteen (18) divisions: Men s and Women s ages 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89 and 90+. There will be two (2) optional throws from each of the three "hot spots." The winners will be the ones in their divisions who make the most baskets out of five (5) throws from each of three hot spots. A perfect score is 15. Competitors may throw the ball in any style, but must use the ball provided. Hot spots are the points at which each competitor attempts to make a basket. Each hot spot is two feet in diameter and located as follows: (a) at the foul line, 15 feet from the basket; (b) 10 feet from the center of the basket to the left and 6 feet in from the end line; (c) 10 feet from the center of the basket to the right and 6 feet in from the end line. This event will have a First, Second, and Third place award in each category. CORN BAG TOSS RULES: This is an individual competition event. There will be eighteen (18) divisions: Men s and Women s ages 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89 and 90+. Each rectangular court will measure 4' by 27' overall with a 4' x 3' designated pitcher's box. The front edge of the pitcher's box will act as the foul line. The distance from the foul line to the front edge of the playing field will be 20'. If the pitcher's foot touches the foul line during a toss, the toss will result in 0 points. Each player will toss six bags with two optional warm-up tosses before start of play. Points are awarded as follows: 3 points for in the hole 1 point for landing on the game surface 0 points if lands anywhere else If a bag is knocked into the hole during the course of play after landing on the game surface, it will count as 3 points. No contestant shall touch his own bags after they have been tossed until the final decision has been rendered as to the scoring value of the bags. There will be a First, Second, and Third place medal in each division to be awarded after the event. (See Attachment C for Corn Bag Toss Court diagram) FOOTBALL THROW: There will be eighteen (18) divisions: Men s and Women s ages 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89 and 90+. Women s and men s footballs will be available. Each participant gets 2 optional practice throws, then there will be 3 measured throws. The best throw will be the individual s score. The winner in each division will be the greatest distance thrown. The distance will be measured from the center point on the throwing line to the point of impact. Regulation footballs will be supplied. Following the event, a First, Second, and Third place medal for each division will be presented. (See Attachment D for Football Throw diagram) SOFTBALL THROW: There will be eighteen (18) divisions: Men s and Women s ages 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89 and 90+. Each participant gets 2 optional practice throws, then there will be 3 measured throws. The best throw will be the individual s score. The winner in each division will be the greatest distance thrown. The distance will be measured from the center point on the throwing line to the point of impact. Regulation softballs will be supplied. Following the event, a First, Second, and Third place medal for each division will be presented. (See - 3 -

Attachment E for Softball Throw diagram) HORSESHOES: There will be eighteen (18) divisions: Men s and Women s ages 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89 and 90+. At time of play, contestants will not necessarily be playing opposite an individual in the same age category. Each game shall consist of 12 innings. Each inning shall consist of pitching 4 shoes. Two players, each pitching 2 shoes. Scoring points: 1. All shoes must be within 6 inches of the stake to score; 2. Any within six inches of the stake scores 1 point; 3. One ringer scores 3 points; 4. Two ringers scores 6 points; 5. All shoes shall be scored and announced only in their final position after all shoes have been pitched. All points for the 12 innings shall be totaled for all players. 6. Any shoe that hits the outside of the box is a non-shoe. If it rolls into the box, it has to be picked up by the scorer and will be a non-shoe. Regulation distances for horseshoes will be 40 feet for men age 69 and under; 30 feet for men 70+ and 30 feet for women to age 74; and 20 feet for women age 75+. Contestants may bring their own shoes. The National Horseshoe Pitchers Association of America rules will be official. There will be a First, Second, and Third place medal in each division to be awarded after the event. No contestant shall touch his own or his opponent s shoes after they have been pitched until the final decision has been rendered as to the scoring values of the shoes. (See Attachment F for Horseshoe Court diagram) PUTTING TOURNAMENT (Indoors): This is an individual event. There will be eighteen (18) divisions for Men and Women: 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89 and 90+. The 3-hole putting tournament will be held in the gym, conducted on two (2) indoor putting greens with cups. Putters will be available for use, however participants may bring their own. The holes will be played from 15, 10 and 5. Players may take 2 optional practice shots. Players will take one (1) shot from each distance. Points will be given for holes-in-one scored. Example: A hole-in-one for the 15 distance would tab 15 points. Participants with the highest point score wins. No one is to be near the greens until after the ball has come to rest. There will be a First, Second, and Third place medal in each division to be awarded after the event. Equipment: Putter Putting Green Putting Cups STATIONARY BIKE: This event will be conducted on a stationary exercise bicycle and riders will race against a three-minute time limit. Winners are those who ride the greatest distance to the nearest tenth of a mile. Awards will be presented following the event. There will be eighteen (18) divisions: Men s and Women s ages 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89 and 90+. There will be a First, Second, and Third place medal given in each category. - 4 -

THE FOLLOWING EVENTS ARE HELD AS DISTRICT WIDE OR AREA WIDE EVENTS AND REQUIRE PRE-REGISTRATION Please have all cell phones turned off. There will be eighteen (18) divisions: Men s and Women s ages 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89 and 90+. Standard rules will apply for bowling with no handicap. Bowlers must first check-in with the AAA official and pay for their lane fees before start of play. Participants shall be responsible for the cost of their lane fees. Cost is $7.50 for three games. Price includes shoe rental if needed. GOLF TOURNAMENT: Standard Shotgun Start rules / regulations will apply to the Senior Golf Tournament. Men and Women will compete in the following age categories: 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89 and 90+. Scoring will be based on the Callaway Handicap System. 500 CARDS: This is a team event. Separate Rules of Play are attached. DART BASEBALL: This is a team event. Separate Rules of Play are attached. 8-BALL POOL: This is an individual competition. Separate Rules of Play are attached. Wii BOWLING: This is a team event. Separate Rules of Play are attached.
