See you all at the club! Worthy President, Hector A. Flores Jr. Worthy President Thornton Aerie #3226

Hello, Sisters and Brothers! Are you all having a great fall? Summer started slowly, but after the scorching days, a bit of cool weather will be a relief. The Aerie/Auxiliary picnic was a blast on August 25th. Low attendance by our members but loads of fun and GREAT food! Thank you to my corn hole partner, Madam VP Barb Vallejos. It was great to see Davida and Larry Gonzales and Marti Meredith at our club, as well as State Chaplain from Commerce City Sal Sanchez. Sister Sophia Alires and Brother Mark Morgan were heading to their bachelorette/bachelor parties after the picnic, and I heard that a good time was had by all. I am not spilling the details unless you make a donation to the club. The chili contest was scheduled for 9/22 so we don t have results as the newsletter deadline is the 20th of each month. Or maybe we do, depending on if Suzy can fit it in the newsletter. The State picnic at 11 Mile Reservoir had an outstanding attendance by Thornton. Wish I could have attended, but I have a yearly yard sale in beautiful Grand Lake, CO. Here are things to celebrate in October All of October: Adopt a Shelter Dog. I personally have adopted one over four and a half years ago. Boo Boo is crazy, smart, affectionate and names that are not suitable in print. That said, I love him dearly and he makes me laugh more than he angers me. If you can t adopt, think about volunteering your time at a shelter. October 1: National Homemade Cookies Day. I am sure Betty Crocker came up with this day, but maybe her husband Butch had something to do with it. 10/2: Name your car day. Wanna share? My car s name is Bluebaru. Let me know your car s name and I will pick a winner and give the owner of the best named car $10. Deadline is October 15th. 10/7 Bald and Free Day. Or maybe it s reasonably priced. Who doesn t like to rub a bald head like a Buddha s belly? 10/9 Fire Prevention Day. Remember Edith (but not Edith Ann of Laugh In if you are close to my age): "Exit Drills In The Home" Keep your smoke detector batteries charged, and always have an exit plan. October 13th from 2-6 pm - fundraiser for Annette and Troy Fickle. They have had serious medical issues and we are stepping up to help them as they have helped others over the past. See flyer for details and please, please bring a donation, grab bag or gift basket to help them out. Thanks Mike Philbin for suggesting the fundraiser. 10/17 National Pasta Day. Did you know The Chinese were the first to make pasta, going back as far as 5,000 BC?. 10/31 Halloween, the best holiday of the year! Put your freak and/or costume on and enjoy at the club from 7-12. Huge thanks to Dixie Rios. She has been raising funds for both my and Hector s special projects. She also does a lot of gardening and little donations that make a huge difference. I ask that Sisters who are members to follow her lead. Maybe you can t attend the meetings, but you need to help out. You promised, so quit putting it off. Fraternally yours, Mary Dewey Madam President Marydewey59@comcast.net 303-570-8927 (cell)
