The 80/20 Plan what s in a name. In 1906, Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto created a mathematical formula to describe the unequal distribution of wealth in his country, observing that twenty percent of the people owned eighty percent of the wealth. After Pareto made his observation and created his formula, many others observed similar phenomena in their own areas of expertise. You can apply the 80/20 Rule to almost anything, from the science of management to the physical world. You know 20 percent of you stock takes up 80 percent of your warehouse space and that 80 percent of your stock comes from 20 percent of your suppliers. The reason we have named our selection plan the 80/20 Program is that it will were looking at a method of finding around 80% winning bets out of every 100 races we select. We also found that we had selected horses in around 20% of the races on any given race day. You read that correctly..around 80% winning races if you are to follow the program accurately. Free on the Internet..Free on the Internet*(see note below) We are about to see how to gather the information provided by one of the best rating services available. Horse (as well as harness and greyhound) Ratings are freely available on the Internet. You can use any method you like to identify the quality horse in any race. We are quite content to use the Ratings provided on the UniTab webpage. The Sky-Ratings on Sky Channel are another source of quality rating. As well the freely available ratings there are literally scores of pay-as-you go race rating services that will attempt to identify the quality runners for you. As an example, the Wizard Race Form newspaper (and web-site) seems as successful as any other. What the Ratings are saying to us is this When you go to the races today, the best standout horses on the program are Such-and Such they are the quality horses at the day s race meeting... * Please note: This version of the 80/20 program is written for Australian punters. How the 80/20 rule can help you be more effective What we have found is that on any given Saturday we will find around 20% of the races at the four main Metropolitan meetings will provide suitable races with the standout selections. The other 80% of races can run without us. Out of 32 races we will probably find 4 8 selections (one horse per race) The question now is to find out ways to track down the standout Best Bets for the days racing. Now let s open up a web page that will provide the standout selections, absolutely free of charge. You can use any rating service you may choose, but there is an excellent one that is free on the net. All we have to do is to open up the webpage for UniTab online TAB races and results. You can find it at http://www.tabonline.com.au/default.stm. Most meetings covered have the rating of the runners on the right side of the screen. The standout selection is the horse rated 100 and is the only horse in the race with a rating figure of 100. If two horses in the race attract a 100 rating then no selection in the race. The selected top rated horse must be supported and backed in to $3.50 or less for a win on the TAB. Why $3.50 you might ask? This is equivalent to a 5/2 price. For over 25 years we have regarded horses at 5/2 or less to be well supported by the racing public. When money talks, very little changes. What we are looking for is the quality horse in the race that the punters are supporting for a win. There s an old saying. Pick them to win.. Bet on them for a place. Multi-bets.com 2009 4
Deciding on which horse and race to be bet. Now that we have one quality horse in a race we can refine the choices of the final selections. 1. Remember that the Program is designed for place betting only. 2. After scratchings, we need between 8 and 12 runners in the race. We should walk away from races with less than 8 runners. We need the opportunity to get a dividend for 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd. Also we know from painful experience that races with 13, 14, 15 or more runners are difficult for get consistently good results due to race interference and race tactics. However there are plenty of races with 8 12 runners. 3. The race must pay three place dividends on 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd. 4. The selected horse must be paying less then $3.50 for a win and it would be nice if the place dividend is expected to be $1.30 or higher. Sometime the place dividend varies at the last moment, particularly on mid-week races where the TAB pool is not very high. We know (again from experience) that when the money is around for best-bet horses they have an excellent chance of winning or being placed 1 st, 2 nd or 3 rd. 5. Many times (particularly during mid-week racing) it is very hard to obtain a minimum return of $1.30 or more for a place. If the selection looks like paying $1.10 or less for a place, walk away from the race. Patience is a virtue and there is plenty of time to grab the right horse at the right price. 6. If there are two 100 Rated horses in the one race, walk away from the race. As in 5 above, patience is a virtue and there are plenty more race to come. 7. Stay clear of races run on Slow and/or Heavy tracks 8. Remember.The 80/20 Program selection method is designed for Place Betting Only. 9. Who was it that said Little fish can be so sweet..? 10. Special note to Multi-Bets software users. We have been running the 80/20 Program in various forms for some time now and have set up the software to accommodate one horse per race. This was done to handle the one runner per race identified by the 80/20 Program. We have been placing a 1 Number Of Bets Option. When our selection runs a place we then note the place dividend and enter this amount in the Win Div box. Due to the very high strike rate we have been using 5% in the Bet %.and bringing Bank B into play when we have 1 loss and Bank C into play after 2 losses. We also recommend you start with a low bank of below $300 (even $150 starting bank is okay). It is possible that you can make really good money quite quickly.
