Winter 2013 In This Issue... * President s Message - 1 * Northern Conference - 1,3,5 * Award Nominations Due - 5 * 2014-16 Slate of Officers - 5 A Message From Our President I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving celebrations. Winter in the Northern Division means two things - indoor tennis and the Northern Division Convention. This year s convention will again be held at Life Time Fitness - Fridley. Education will begin at noon on Friday, Jan. 17, and will run through Saturday, Jan. 18, at 5 p.m. New to this year s convention is the post convention dinner and party following Saturday s education. This USPTA Northern Division President John Schollmeier event will be held at the Shorewood Bar & Grill. Keep an eye out for emails with speakers and specific times. The end of 2013 also means my two-year presidency is ending. Being a part of the Northern Division Board the past four years has been a great experience. To truly learn how the USPTA operates on a national level and to understand how each member can be a part of this organization is extremely valuable in the tennis industry. I would also like to personally thank Bruce Gullikson and Brian McCoy for not only the introduction to the USPTA Board, but for everything they do for the USPTA in the Northern Division. Last but not least, thanks to Christin Thurston. For those who don t know how the USPTA Northern Division operates, Christin makes it operate. The amount of organizing and planning Christin does for our division is outstanding. When you run into one of these three at the 2014 Convention, be sure to thank them for their service! It is an exciting time to be a part of the USPTA, and with the new leadership of John Embree, the value and worth of our membership is continuing to grow and become more and more important to what we all do as professionals within the tennis industry. John, and the national staff, have done an incredible amount of work on our behalf and what he has already accomplished in his first year as CEO is amazing! The future of the USPTA is in good hands, and I look forward to seeing the continued growth of our association. As always, if you would like to get more involved with the USPTA Northern Division we would love to have more input from our membership. The key to any good organization and professional is the sharing of new ideas. Thank you, John Schollmeier Northern Conference January 17-18 at LTF - Fridley Make plans now to attend the 2014 USPTA Northern Division Convention January 17-18 at Life Time Fitness - Fridley. Admission is free for all USPTA and PTR members. High School coaches can attend for $10. Time on January 17 is noon - 9 p.m., while January 18 is 12-5 p.m., with dinner at Shorewood Bar & Grill to folllow. To register, please contact Christin Thurston at schum10s@aol.com.
