SKATING SCHOOL POLICIES AND SUGGESTIONS MAKE-UP POLICY: THERE WILL BE NO MAKE-UP CLASSES PERMITTED. REFUND POLICY: NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN. THE ONLY ECEPTION TO THIS WILL BE OUR SNOW PLOW SAM 1 PROGRAM. ANY SNOW PLOW SAM 1 CANCELING AFTER THE FIRST OR SECOND CLASS WILL BE CHARGED A $17.00 PROCESSING FEE AND $25.00 PER CLASS FEE. AFTER THE SECOND CLASS THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS. LEVEL EVALUATION: DURING THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF CLASS OUR PROFESSIONAL STAFF WILL EVALUATE SKATERS BASED ON AGE AND ABILITY TO ENSURE THEY ARE IN THE CORRECT CLASS. HELMETS: ARE OPTIONAL BUT HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR TOTS AND BEGINNERS. SKATES: SHOULD BE COMFORTABLE BUT SNUG; SKATES SHOULD BE SLIGHTLY SMALLER THAN SHOE SIZE. CLOTHING: WARM, LAYERED, COMFORTABLE CLOTHING AND GLOVES (SWEATERS & SWEATSHIRTS ARE PREFERABLE TO BULKY JACKETS) Descriptions of Basic Skill Levels Parent & Me: This program is designed for children 3 to 5 years old who have never had formal instruction. Basic skating skills will be taught to the children while allowing the parent to participate on the ice with them. Snow Plow Sam 1: This program is designed to teach the basic skills to children ages 4 through 6 who have never had instruction in a fun, safe and nurturing environment. Snow Plow Sam 2: This program is for children 4 through 6 who have completed Snowplow 1. At this level the child must be able to march across the rink and be able to fall and get up without assistance. Snow Plow Sam 3: This program is for children 4 through 6 who have completed Snowplow 2. At this level the child should be able to glide across the ice. It is in this level that the child will begin to learn the proper method of pushing and gliding across the ice. Forward swizzles, snowplow stops and back wiggles will also be taught at this time. Snow Plow Sam 4: This figure skating program is designed for children ages 4 through 6 who have completed Snowplow Sam levels 1-3 and are ready to graduate to our accelerated basic skills program. Super Tot Hockey: This program is designed for tots who have completed Snowplow Sam 1-3 and are ready to peruse the fundamentals needed for league play. Basic 1: This program is for children 7 and up. At this level the child will learn the proper way to fall and get up from a kneeling position, skating forward across the rink without falling, gliding forward on two feet, forward two-foot swizzles, snowplow stop and two foot hop while moving Basic 2: Backward skating on two feet, backward two-foot glide, backward swizzles, forward one-foot glide, two-foot turn from forward to backward, forward one-foot swizzles on a circle (in both directions), backward one-foot snowplow stop Basic 3: Forward stroking (utilizing correct use of blade and neat footwork), forward one-foot swizzles on a circle (both directions) forward to backward two-foot turn on a circle, continuous forward slalom, one-foot snowplow stop (R&L). Basic 4: Forward outside edges, forward inside edges, forward crossovers, backward one-foot glide, forward outside three turns, backward snowplow stop. Basic 5: Back outside edges, back inside edges, back crossovers, beginning one foot spin, hockey stop and side toe hop. Basic 6: Forward inside three turns, T-stop, bunny hop, forward spiral and forward lunge. Pre-Freeskate : Forward inside open Mohawk, backward outside to forward outside transition on circle, backward crossovers to backward outside edge, waltz jump, one foot upright spin. Hockey 1: This program is designed for children who are 7 and up and have completed Basic 1. The skater will learn the Basic Skills of hockey skating. Hockey 2: The skater will learn more advanced hockey skills. They will be required to have a helmet, stick and gloves. After Hockey 2 students will progress to Hockey 3 in which full equipment is required. Adult & Teen Program: This program is for teens and adults ages 16 & up. Freeskates Freeskates is a clinic for skaters that have completed Basic skills levels 1-Pre Freeskate of our Learn to Skate Program.
