LOS ANGELES DODGERS (91-40) at Arizona Diamondbacks (75-58) RHP Kenta Maeda (12-5, 3.76) vs. RHP Zack Greinke (15-6, 3.14) Thursday, August 31, 2017 12:40 p.m. PT Chase Field Phoenix, AZ Game 132 Road Game 64 (39-24) Day Game 37 (26-10) TV: SNLA/SNLA Spanish Radio: AM 570 (Eng.); 1020 AM (Span.) BOUNCE BACK: Following last night s 6-4 defeat to the Diamondbacks, the Dodgers have dropped four consecutive games for the first time this season and for the first time since May 18-21, 2016. Los Angeles is hoping to turn things around this afternoon, as it looks to avoid getting swept for the first time this season. The Dodgers have also not lost back-to-back series since the beginning of the season, when the club dropped two games of a three-game set to the Rockies and two of three to the Cubs from April 7-13. After today s game, the Boys in Blue will travel to San Diego and will start a three-day, four-game weekend series against the Padres tomorrow night, with a doubleheader on Saturday. Despite the loss, the Dodgers have won 17 of their last 23 games on the road since the All-Star break and hold the second best winning percentage (.619, 39-24) away from home in the NL, trailing just the Nationals (41-24,.631). Los Angeles currently holds a.654 (17-9) winning percentage during the month of August, which is the best in the National League. The Dodgers are 8-7 against the Diamondbacks this season, including winning six of their last nine games against the Snakes, and are 27-20 (.574) at Chase Field since 2013. This afternoon, the Dodgers play their 37 th day game of the season and currently own a Major League best.722 winning percentage in those contests (26-10), while also winning nine of their last 11 games under the sun. NO PANIC NEEDED: Despite the loss, the Dodgers own the best record in baseball with a 91-40 mark (.695), 10.5 games better than Nationals, and also hold the best record in the NL through 131 games since the 1944 Cardinals (94-37,.718). The Dodgers have won 25 of their last 34 and have gone 56-15 since June 7, which is the second-best 71-game stretch in franchise history, trailing their 57-14 mark from earlier this year on June 3-August 25. Los Angeles +216 run differential is the best in the Major Leagues, 61 runs better than the Indians. MAEKEN MAGIC: The Dodgers will send right-hander Kenta Maeda to the mound today for his 22 nd start of the season, as he looks to record his 13 th win of the year and snap the club s four-game skid. Maeda last pitched on Friday against the Brewers, allowing just one run on one hit (solo home run) in 6.0 innings with seven strikeouts, as he recorded the win in the Dodgers 3-1 victory. The native of Japan has been stellar in his last eight starts since July 7, going 6-1 with a 2.44 ERA (12 ER/44.1 IP) and holding hitters to just a.186 average. During that span he has struck out 46 batters against just 10 walks, while posting a 0.90 WHIP. Since the All-Star break, Maeda leads National League starters (min. 35.0 IP) with a 0.86 WHIP, while ranking among the best in ERA (2.52, 7 th ), opponents batting average (.181, 3 rd ), opponents OPS (.549, 2 nd ) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.13, 2 nd ) In nine career starts against the Snakes, Maeda has gone 3-2 with a 4.18 ERA (22 ER/47.1 IP) and has struck out 50 batters against just 10 walks. He has held Arizona hitters to a.245 average, while posting a 1.16 WHIP. He has made three starts against the Dbacks this season. PUIG YOUR FRIEND: Dodger right fielder Yasiel Puig continued to swing a hot bat after going 1-for-3 with two RBI and a walk in last night s contest. Puig has hit safely in eight of his last nine games since Aug. 21, batting.400 (12-for-30) with seven runs, two doubles, one triple, three homers and five RBI along with a 1.347 OPS. He has also hit safely in his last six road games since Aug. 21. In his career, he has hit.389 (21- for-54) vs. the Snakes, with four homers, 14 RBI, four doubles and a triple along with a.431 on-base percentage and a.722 slugging percentage in 16 games. Taylor has also reached base safely in all nine career games at Chase Field, going 13-for-34 (.382) with a 1.271 OPS, four home runs and 12 RBI. Taylor has been on a tear since the All-Star break, hitting.335 (55-for-164, 6 th NL) with a.391 OBP, eight homers and 27 RBI in 40 games. Overall, he ranks among the NL leaders in batting average (.305, 14 th ), doubles (31, 8 th ) and OPS (.907, 17 th ), despite joining the team on April 19. R.O.Y?: Dodger rookie sensation Cody Bellinger made his return to the field yesterday after being reinstated from the 10-day disabled list and finished the game going 1-for-4 with a run scored and a hit by pitch. The overwhelming favorite to win the NL Rookie of the Year currently leads the Dodgers with 34 home runs, 79 RBI and a.609 slugging percentage, while also hitting.273 with 71 runs, two triples and nine stolen bases. Bellinger is just one home run shy of catching Hall of Famer Mike Piazza for the most home runs in a single season by a Dodger rookie. Despite being called up on April 25, the All-Star first baseman/outfielder currently ranks among the best in the National League in home runs (2 nd ), slugging percentage (4 th ), RBI (16 th ) and OPS (.965, 6 th ). SHUT IT DOWN: The Dodgers lead the Major Leagues with a 3.16 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP and a.223 opponents batting average, while leading the NL in strikeouts (1,242). Los Angeles has also walked the fewest batters in the bigs, issuing just 343 free passes. The Dodger bullpen leads the Majors with a 2.91 ERA (143 ER/442.2 IP) and Los Angeles starters lead the Majors with a 3.31 mark (269 ER/731.2 IP). Kenley Jansen nailed down his 35 th save Friday night (3 rd, ML), just five off the Major League high. He leads NL relievers in WHIP (0.69), and ranks second with 93 strikeouts. Jansen leads the Majors in strikeout-to-walk ratio (15.50), with 93 Ks against just six walks in 58.1 innings. L.A. is 53-3 when Jansen appears in a game. Not to go unnoticed, Dodger setup man Brandon Morrow has tossed scoreless frames in his last eight outings (8.1 IP) and has held hitters to a.138 average. Morrow, who has gone 5-0 with one save in 34 relief appearances this season, leads NL relievers in opponents slugging percentage (.194) and OPS (.407), while ranking among the best in wins (T- 9th), WHIP (0.79, 3 rd ), opponents batting average (.169, 6 th ) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (6.00, 4 th ). He has yet to allow a home run in 34.0 innings.
