Within these programs participants will develop their skills in competitive swimming and diving while demonstrating sportsmanship and contributing to the positive team environment. WHO CAN SWIM AND DIVE? Age Group Participants The Hurricanes welcome all children of current Happy Hollow members. Children must be 18 years or younger and be able to swim one length of the pool unassisted. Dive team is open to ages 6 and up. Divers must be able to swim to the side without assistance. Please keep in mind that children are taught in a large group setting. Mini Swim Team Participants Mini Swim Team offers the same experience for children who wish to participate in swim team, but do not yet have the skill to swim one length of the pool unassisted. Please remember that Mini Swim Team is not swim lessons. Any child wishing to participate in Mini Swim Team must be able to swim independently across the cove (or approximately 10 yards in 3 feet of water). If you have questions about if your child is able to participate please contact the Head Coach, Hanna Slosson. COST: $100
PRACTICE SCHEDULE Regular swim team practice begins Tuesday, May 29th. Practice will be held Monday through Friday, weather permitting. There are two practice sessions divided by age/skill level. A swimmer may be assigned to another practice time at the discretion of the coach. Swimming 8:00-9:00 10 and Under 9:00-10:00 11 and Over *Mini Swim Team will have 2 practice options: 8:00 and 8:30 Diving 8:00-9:00 11 and Over 9:00-10:00 10 and Under Swimmers and Divers are strongly encouraged to attend all practice sessions. Attendance is imperative if a swimmer is going to improve their skills and will be considered in determining participation in swim and dive meets. All swimmers are required to attend a minimum of two practices per week in order to participate in swim and dive meets. MEETS Dual Meet entries are submitted on Monday afternoon. A sign-up sheet will be e-mailed each Thursday or Friday for the following week s meet. If your swimmer is not signed up by Sunday at 8:00 P.M. they will not be entered in that week s meet. Your diligence in this matter is greatly appreciated. The Head Coach has the right to decline participation in any meet due to late sign ups. Dual Meet warm ups will begin at 5:00pm. with the meet starting at 5:45pm. (unless otherwise announced). Dive Meet warm ups and start times will vary. Times will be announced. Every swimmer and diver is encouraged to compete. Mini swim team participants are encouraged to participate in home meets. Participation and performance in Dual Meets throughout the season will influence the swimming and diving assignments for the Championship Meet. SWIMMING AND DIVING GOSL CHAMPIONSHIPS GOSL rules state for a swimmer/diver to be eligible to compete in the Prelim/Final Championship meet they must compete in two meets previous to the Championship. If a meet is cancelled due to weather the entries for that meet will be considered swam and the meet counts. Using the roster of eligible swimmers the coaching staff will put together the best entries to represent Happy Hollow. Prelim/Finals week is July 16th-20th. Prelims - Monday, July 16th @ Champions Finals - Tuesday, July 17th @ HHC Diving finals - Wednesday, July 18th @ Field Club of Omaha CANCELLATIONS Practices may be cancelled due to inclement weather. If the air temperature is below 60 degrees at 7:00 A.M. or if there are thunderstorms in the area swimming and diving will be cancelled. All cancellations will be announced no later than 7:30 A.M. If practices are cancelled you will be notified by email and mass text message. More information on the text messaging service will be available at a later date. Swim and dive meet cancellations will be sent out via email and mass text message. TEAM EQUIPMENT All team members should have a competitive swimsuit, goggles and towel. We recommend the following: Practice Suits swimming suits worn during practice sessions that are durable and comfortable. Competitive Suit team suit Goggles competitive swimming goggles are worn by the swimmers during practice and competition to enhance vision and protect the eyes from the effects of chlorine. Cap a team cap will be provided. Towel usually 2 at meets. They get wet and cold. All swimmers and divers who will be participating in meets should purchase a team suit. If they have a team suit from last summer, it can be worn as long as it is in good condition. More information about team suits will be available at a later date.
TEAM PICTURES Regal Photography will be taking pictures for the swim and dive teams.more information will be available at a later date. DONUT DAYS! One of the best traditions of summer league swimming and diving is donut and award day. Thursdays after meets there will be donuts for the swimmers after practice. Ribbons will also be handed out on Thursdays, assuming the coaching staff has received the correct results from the host team in a timely manner.
