OMFC Fliteline - Page 3 Hi-lights of April 2018 Meeting The OMFC April meeting was brought to order by President Terry Sears at 7:30 pm on Monday April 2nd, with 21 members present. There were no guests or new members present this month. V/P Denis Loo gave a recap on a meeting of club representatives from MAAC Zone L. The agenda was to look at ways to increase membership in MAAC. Not surprisingly the average age of club members is quite high ranging from 40-60 with some even higher. To ensure the viability and continuation of MAAC, we need to get more young people interested. Many members only see MAAC as useful for the insurance it provides - and don t see it as doing much else for them. As some clubs decline in membership, others are approaching insolvency, fortunately others are stable, even some of the smaller clubs. It seems many younger members don t stay long as commitments fill their time, but many come back later in life, so we need to build interest to keep them. Denis noted there is an interactive map intended to help UAV operators select sites away from aerodromes and built-up areas on the National Research Council Canada website. Judging by the limited places, this should help encourage more people to join clubs where it is allowed to fly safely. The link to the map is: https://www.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/eng/solutions/collaborative/civuas/uav_site_selection_tool.html A reminder that the Annual General Meeting of MAAC is this Sunday, April 29th at 1:00 PM in Niagra Falls at the Niagra Falls Mariott on the Falls, 6755 Fallsview Blvd.
OMFC Fliteline - Page 4 *** Free Flight Contest *** Gentlemen, start your engines! Oh sorry, wind your rubbers. This years event did not see nearly as many competitors (last year there were 14). Results were also lacking this year with the winner, Andy Sulkowski, having a time of 9.47 sec., which was far from his winning time last year of 17.6 sec. The others did not even have results worth publishing!
At least Andy came prepared with this custom winder OMFC Fliteline - Page 5 That wall is coming up really fast. the EXIT is down and to the left! That s cheating! It s supposed to be free flight.
OMFC Fliteline - Page 6 Jim was making good business selling Draw tickets. Still no winner! The pot is now up to $142.60. Better come to the next meeting for your chance at a win!
