Swim Star Swim School We are proud to announce that we are now an STA Swim Star Swim School. The Swim Star Swim School programme is the ultimate swim school package, designed specifically to help and support independent swim schools. It offers a unique stamp of approval from STA and symbolises our commitment to maintain the highest standards in safety, teaching and customer service. Those of you who swim at Cranmore School on Wednesdays may have been lucky enough to meet the STA mascot Stanley when he came to visit recently and we certainly enjoyed his visit. Photos from the day were on our Facebook page and you can see some here: Free Progress Tracker On becoming a Swim Star Swim School we have received free progress trackers. Every child will receive one of these towards the end of term and as they receive each certificate you can enter the date enabling you and your child to track their progress throughout the STA International Learn to Swim Programme. We are Looking for a Pool to Use During School Hours! We are desperately seeking a pool to use during school hours so that we can run parent and child and pre-school classes. This could be a public facility, a school or someone with a pool in their house we can use. Can anyone help with suggestions or introductions? Anyone providing information that leads us to opening new classes will receive a year of free lessons as a great big thank you!
Sad News That Mia is Leaving us! It is with great sadness I have to tell you that Mia is leaving us at the end of this term. Having finished her college study she is off to take up a full time post in a children s nursery and will be unable to carry on teaching with us. Those of you who have had her teach your children over the years will know what a fantastic teacher she has grown into since she started helping us as a teenager. She has become an amazing asset to our swim school and will be greatly missed. She has a great imagination and ability to connect with the children. We particularly liked her Sports Relief swim the channel game swim to France with a bucket of water and pour the water over the French bunnies head! Sports Relief 2016 Many thanks to all of you who donated to our Swim The Channel Sports Relief fundraiser. Together we managed to swim 45.5 miles, so more than the distance of the Channel and back! Altogether we raised 691. Easter Egg Appeal for our Supported Charity CSSEF A massive thank you to all of you who donated eggs to our supported charity; Chloe and Sophie s Special Ears Fund appeal for Easter eggs for Chocolate bingo! We did not expect to collect so many and Chloe and Sophie were amazed when we delivered them to their house! I received this in an email from their mum Karen: The funds from Chocolate Bingo Chocolate Easter Eggs paid for us to buy 230 copies of Deaf Awareness Story Books to give to children in schools local to us. A total of 685 was raised from the evening. A huge THANK YOU to all of your donations of Chocolate Easter Eggs. Julie's Swim School gave CSSEF the BIGGEST collection of Easter Eggs, so please pass on our thanks. We will be hosting another Chocolate Bingo Night in 2017. EGGCELLENT WORK.

Teachers News Congratulations to Janine who has recently passed her STA Level 2 Award in Swimming Teaching and her STA Level 2 Baby, Parent and Child swimming certificate. It is Janine s ambition to be able to teach Baby, Parent and Child classes and as a swim school it would be the last piece in the puzzle for us as we currently teach from age 3.5 years. Alas, we are unable to find any pool time during school hours, which is when it would need to be. If anyone can think of anywhere we might be able to use or anyone who has a private pool at their house that we may be able to use, please let us know! Congratulations to Lance on recently passing his STA Level 2 Award in Swimming Teaching. Lance has now taken over responsibility for groups formally taught by Julie at Ripley Court which allows her to now move freely between the two pools we use on a Friday. Congratulations to Megan who recently completed her ASA Level 2 Swimming Teaching qualification via recognised prior learning. Megan has also recently finished her BA Hons in Graphic Communication. One of her first jobs is to redesign our logo for us. We look forward to being able to show you the results of her work! Summer Holiday Courses Unfortunately we unable to confirm dates for summer holiday courses yet. We are currently finalising these with the schools and an email will follow shortly as soon as we able to release details.
Teacher Training Courses We are planning to put on our first teacher training course during the summer holiday period. Swimming teaching is a very rewarding job and can be done part time, as an only, or as a second job.we have some fantastic career opportunities available and are looking for people of all ages, with no previous experience necessary, to join our comprehensive training programme. All that is required is a love of water, of working with children and of learning new things! If you are interested or know anyone who may be interested in becoming a swimming teacher you can speak to us or find out more here: https://www.sta.co.uk/qualifications/swimming-teaching/sta-award-in-swimming-teaching-staa/ STA Junior Lifeguard Academy Our Junior Lifeguard Academy runs on a Tuesday at Cranmore school from 6.45 to 7.45. This is open to childen aged 8 plus who have at least their 100 metre badge and they can move over to this session, if they wish, once they have achieved this criteria. The session allows them to sample different swimming activities such as; survival swimming, lifeguard skills, fin swimming, boogie boarding, snorkeling, competitive starts and turns and water polo. They also have the opportunity to learn CPR. We also hope to have a course running in the summer holidays. National Water Safety Week Please teach your children of the dangers that all water can present and keep them away from the edge of the pool at all times, particularly at Boxgrove where we have had two toddlers fall in recently! Drowning is the third most common cause of accidental death in children in this country and we will once again educate our swimmers about how to keep themselves safe during Water Safety Week which is run in conjunction with STA from 6 th 10 th June. More details together with links to resources which you can download to use at home will follow under a separate email.
Unattended Children During Lessons Can we please remind you that children must have a responsible adult on poolside during lesson times as we are only responsible for them whilst they are in the water. An adult should be present at all times to supervise them out of the water, during toilet trips and in case of emergency. Many thanks for your co-operation here.
