THE MISSION OF THE FOUNDATION ROD DEDEAUX Raoul Rod Dedeaux was a legendary USC and USA Olympic baseball coach, Founder of Japan USA Baseball series, Father of International Baseball, and Coach of the Century. Rod loved the taste of victory on the baseball diamond, and his tremendous accomplishments of 11 national titles and 28 conference titles prove just that. Rod s most enduring legacy was his ability to use the sport of baseball as a platform to provide a positive, lifelong impact in the lives of thousands of young adults; his heart (and now his foundation s) was always focused on mentorship and guidance demonstrated through his tireless coaching to promote teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, a sense of fair play and having a heck of a good time. THE ROD DEDEAUX FOUNDATION The Rod Dedeaux Foundation was formed to continue Rod s spirit by supporting youth baseball and softball programs in underserved areas. Currently, inner city organizations are fighting for survival as public funding is drying up, coupled with the game s waning popularity with children in Urban areas. Through the efforts of the Foundation, youth receive more than just uniforms and renovated facilities, they receive a sanctuary from challenging environments and a support system specifically designed to build character and academic support to enable underprivileged youth to achieve their dreams. ABOUT THE PRESTIGIOUS EVENTS In 2018, the Rod Dedeaux Foundation will host a series of prestigious events over a two-day period and celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Golden Spikes Award. The Golden Spikes Award is presented annually to the top amateur baseball player in the United States. The winner will be announced during a nationally televised broadcast on June 28, 2018 and will be honored later that evening at the Rod Dedeaux Foundation Awards Dinner. The winner will join an illustrious list of recipients, which includes 2016 National League MVP and World Series Champion, Kris Bryant, and standouts such as Bryce Harper, Stephen Strasburg, Buster Posey, and David Price. On Wednesday, June 27, 2018 over 150 youth from five different organizations within the inner cities of Los Angeles will come together at USC Dedeaux Field for the Rod Dedeaux Foundation Youth Clinic. Every year this clinic proves to be a memorable event for everyone involved and truly sets the bar for the future goals of the younger generation. Over 25 coaches (former MLB stars, Golden Spikes Finalists, and current college players) volunteer their time to ensure each participant has the most impactful experience possible by providing valuable instructional stations, a USC campus tour, and motivational mentorship. Immediately following the Youth Clinic, an exclusive USA Baseball and Rod Dedeaux Foundation Golden Spikes Award Finalist Reception and Dinner are held on the rooftop at Jonathan Club, Los Angeles. The evening offers Golden Spikes Award Finalists and their families, USA Baseball representatives, the Coach of the Year, event partners and Rod Dedeaux Foundation board members a once-in-alifetime opportunity to connect and celebrate one of America s greatest pastimes with one another. On Thursday, June 28, 2018, over 300 guests will attend the Rod Dedeaux Foundation Awards Dinner at Jonathan Club, Los Angeles. This evening boasts a remarkable opportunity for some of the most influential individuals in Los Angeles to network and mingle with the former baseball greats that are present. To kick off the night, partners of the event will be invited to attend an intimate VIP Reception with the newly announced Golden Spikes Award Winner and finalists, the Coach of the Year, the Rod Dedeaux Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, MLB Stars and Hall of Famers, Rod Dedeaux s family members and fellow Rod Dedeaux Foundation board members. During the evening, the USA Baseball Rod Dedeaux Foundation Coach of the Year and the Rod Dedeaux Lifetime Achievement Award recipient will also be honored following a reception, silent and live auctions, and formal sit-down dinner. Proceeds from the event will enable us to fund inner-city youth baseball programs, equipment, and field renovations. 2
