We have gathered this information here below to make sure your time in Luton is as convenient and comfortable as possible. We will be using software called Kihapp which will allow you to register and pay for your students, coaches and spectators. You will also be able to register/pay for your students for the Seminar on Saturday 14 th April. Please also note that KWF members who book in for the seminar will receive 5 cash back BUT only on proof of KWF Licence book presented to the KWF MEMBERS REFUND table which will be at check-in, in the Luton Dojo. There is a large free car park and a cafeteria onsite (selling sandwiches, panini s, snacks, tea and coffee, but not hot meals) with several vending machines selling cold drinks/snacks. We ask that groups nominate at least one referee for the day to assist with the continuity and smooth running of the event. Prizes: There will be a medal awarded for 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd places in Kata events and for 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd in Kumite events. All medals will be awarded at the very end of the competition. In order to allow parents/guardians/coach s to photograph competitors during the award Ceremony, an area will be cordoned off in front of the podium. It is kindly requested that no person goes beyond this cordon since the qualified event photographer must have freedom of movement around the area of the podium. Photography Photography will be freely allowed of all competitors within the main hall although anyone wishing to use photographic equipment must firstly lodge their details with the administration desk staff. Elements of this event will also be streamed live via Kihapp at the Luton Karate Academy Facebook page. Any person with objections to being photographed should not enter the competition. 3
Disclaimer All participants of this competition are reminded that Karate by its very nature is combative and duly acknowledge that injuries may occur. A condition of entry is that participants will not hold the KWF/LKA or any of their agents or representatives responsible for any personal loss or injury incurred during the competition. In the unlikely event of an injury, where the injured party is unable to respond, all participants authorise the event medical staff to execute whatever medical procedures are deemed necessary. Coaches The coach shall at all times during the tournament wear either a karate-gi or tracksuit with an identifying badge on both. The Coach has the right to: 1. Make a protest to the Chief Referee (which must be in writing). 2. Coach competitors. 3. Communicate with his athletes during temporary halts of the bout (Yame to Hajime). 4. Approach the Arbitrator on matters of administration. 5. Only one Coach per tatami is permitted at any one time. 6. Coaches must at all times conduct themselves in a disciplined manner. Coaches are responsible for all persons attached or associated to their club/federation and it is their responsibility to ensure that their members behave in a proper manner. 6

Kumite - Protection The following rules apply to the wearing of devices for protection: a) Mitts are MANDATORY in Kumite. b) Groin protectors are MANDATORY (13 years old and above) in Kumite. c) Chest protectors are MANDATORY (13 years old and above) in Kumite. d) Gum shields are MANDATORY in Kumite. e) Shin/instep protectors are FORBIDDEN in Kumite. Kumite Shobu Ippon 7
1. Scores shall be as follows: a) Ippon (one point). b) Waza-ari (one half points). 2. The scoring areas shall be limited to the following: a) Head (no head contact for competitors under 10 years of age) b) Face (no face contact for competitors under 10 years of age) c) Abdomen d) Chest e) Side (ribs) f) Back (excluding shoulders) Kumite - Prohibited Behaviour 1. Failure to comply with the orders of the Referee. 2. Time-wasting. 3. Any unsporting behaviour such as verbal abuse, provocation or needless utterances. 4. Any behaviour likely to bring Karate into disrepute (this includes coaches and manager or anybody connected with the contestant/club). 5. Lack of regard for the contestant s own safety (Mubobi). 6. Exaggerated actions and/or reactions (i.e. faking of injury). Dress & Equipment 1. Competitors a) Competitors shall wear a clean and white Karate-Gi. b) No commercial advertising shall be allowed c) The Gi jacket when worn with a belt, must in principle, cover the hips but must not be more than three-quarters thigh length. Only female competitors are allowed to wear a plain clean white T-shirt underneath their Gi. The sleeves of the jacket must not be longer than the join of the wrist and the hand, and no shorter than half way up the forearm. Sleeves shall not be rolled up. d) The trousers must cover at least two thirds of the shin and shall not be rolled up. e) In Kumite matches, and in Kata events that use the flag system of scoring, one of the contestants shall for identification purposes fasten a red or white belt around their waists in addition to their own individual grade belt. All belts must be standard size (around 5cms wide and long enough to allow 15cms free on either side of the knot). f) Contestants shall keep their finger and toe-nails short and clean, their hair clean and tidy and shall not wear any jewellery, piercings or metallic objects or the like on their body which might cause injury to their opponent. g) Contestants are not allowed to wear bandages or supports, except with the prior approval of the Referee on the advice of the Event Doctor. h) Spectacles are not allowed in Kumite. Soft contact lenses may be worn at the contestant s own risk. i) Metallic teeth braces must be approved by the Referee on the advice of the Tournament Doctor and will be used at the contestant s own risk. 8
There will be a warm-up area for all competitors where they must remain until their category is called. THIS AREA IS FOR COMPETITORS AND COACHES ONLY! No spectators are allowed in this area for health & safety reasons. Coaches/Instructors must ensure that this information is passed to all students and their families. Referees & Judges All referees and judges MUST wear black trousers and a black T-Shirt. The local airport is London Luton Airport and the two main train stations are Luton Central and Luton Parkway. The venue is only a 10 minute drive from M1 junction 10 or the A1(M) exit for Hitchin. Accommodation: Since Luton is a gateway town there are plenty of hotels and B&B s to suit all budgets. The closest hotel to the venue is the Hilton Garden Inn North (a 4 minute walk). There are several other hotels located at the airport which is only a 10 minute drive to the venue, namely: The Ibis, Holiday Inn Express, Hampton By Hilton, Holiday Inn and Premier Inn. Hotels in the town centre include The Leaside, Icon, Easyhotel and Thistle Express which have limited parking but again are only 10 minutes from the airport and venue.
