INTRODUCTION The Organizing Committee of the 9 th USDBF Club Crew National Championships extends a warm invitation to United States Dragon Boaters and paddlers from around the country. This championship promises to be the most spectacular and competitive dragon boat racing event ever held in the United States! We have the privilege of hosting the United States Dragon Boat Federation's USDBF Club Crew National Championships featuring top paddlers from all over the United States, the premier competitive dragon boat race in the United States. This event is for bonafide club crews who paddle together throughout the season and have been confirmed regional members in good standing. IMPORTANT NOTE: INFLATABLE PFDs WILL NOT BE ALLOWED FOR USE DURING CCNC RACING PROPOSED 2013 CCNC EVENT FORMAT (TENTATIVE) Practice Schedule to be announced; must reserve times at bookings@gwndragonboat.com Thursday, September 12th Crews arrive Registration 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. USDBF Club Crew Practice (I hour practice each day per team) may request more. Friday, September 13th Crews arrive Registration 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. USDBF Club Crew Practice *9:00-4:00 p.m. Officials Training Course will be offered by Bob Morro, Ginny Perrin and Paula Humphries. A separate registration form will be issued with this bulletin. There will be a special event this year to celebrate the life of Dana Nelson and her contribution to the world of dragon boating especially in the area of the Breast Cancer Survivor (BCS) crews. The third annual memorial trophy will be given to the winner of the BCS division in Dana s honor. Remembering Dana Nelson. Dana Nelson passed away in October 2007 after a valiant and courageous battle with cancer. Dana came to dragon boating as a paddler in 2000 as a member of Pink Phoenix dragon boat team. Her interest and dedication to the sport led her through a variety of experiences. Dana became associated with a number of local teams, primarily as a caller. She even spent a season as coxswain for a local rowing club. Over the years Dana become more involved with officiating at races, locally and nationally. She was well respected in this area. Her strong voice could be heard giving instructions at start lines, even though her physical body became weaker from her illness. Never a quitter, Dana s last presence at a race was the Portland Races held in September 2007. Dana was strong and determined in all she undertook and she will be sadly missed in the greater dragon boat community and at home in Portland. Page 4
