(20 marks) Paul s New Bike For the first time in his life Paul had his own bike. This did not belong to his older brother. His grandparents gave him a brand new bike for his birthday. It was green with black tyres and handgrips. He would look after this one very carefully. Paul decided to try out his new bike. He took the bike out of the garage and cycled away. He was enjoying every minute of his ride. The wind was blowing softly through his hair and he felt as free as a bird! Suddenly his bike slowed down and he heard something burst. Oh no! What happened? Paul said to himself. He stopped cycling and stepped down from his bike. He bent down to look at the tyres. He saw that the back tyre was flat. He was very worried. It was getting dark and Paul knew that his parents would be angry with him for staying out late. His heart beat faster and faster. He had left his mobile phone behind and could not call home. Paul looked at his watch 7:15 pm. He was supposed to be home by seven o clock and he was still far away from home. Suddenly, he heard a car so he pulled his bike close to the side to let the car pass. It stopped. The car reversed back along the narrow road. The driver wound down the window and said, Are you all right Paul? What a relief! It was his uncle. He put Paul s bike in the boot of the car and they set off towards home.
