VOLUNTEER PACK

This is your club Blaze belongs to the players. Female, male, young, old, all abilities. Blaze is for everyone. But that doesn t happen without leadership. That s why changes have been made to the way Blaze is run off the court. Blaze has moved from being led by the coaches to being led by everyone in the club. A new Leadership has been formed. Volunteers with professional skills who care about their community are leading Blaze forward. You could be part of the change.

Blaze and The Crags Blaze are the major partner in the charity that operates The Crags Centre. This means Blaze gets priority access and has a base to grow from. The two organisations are technically separate so that both are isolated from the risk of the other falling into financial difficulty. So Blaze members get the best of both worlds a community minded club, playing in a basketball-first facility. Here s how the pieces fit together: Board of Trustees Operate the Centre work together Leadership Lead the club Staff work together Coaching Support Members Forum Regular Q&A meetings open to all members Youth Volunteer Young players gain qualifications and volunteer at games/events Working groups Short-life groups for specific projects e.g. Awards Dinner

Leadership roles Blaze players and parents have a huge pool of experience and skills. The club taps this pool of talent to drive Blaze forward. Leadership Meet 4-6 times per year. Roles usually for one season, August June New members can be added anytime. Accountable to the wider club membership CHAIR Captain the Leadership Lead strategic direction Chair meetings 4-15 hours per month CLUB HEAD COACH Club coaching lead Lead on player and coach selection Support coaches 4-10 hours per week CRAGS REP. Link Blaze and Crags together Could be Crags Trustee or staff 2-5 hours per month TREASURER Prepare quarterly report and annual accounts (using Freeagent) Budget and plan Oversee bank account access 1-4 hours per week CLUB MANAGER Oversee club administration and operations Work with Blaze/Crags staff Support home Game Days and volunteers 2-6 hours per week BASKETBALL SCOTLAND LIAISON Engage with BBS represent club views, input on consultations, raise issues, attend events PLAYER REP. Provide a player s perspective Ensure players are at the heart of decision making Point of contact for players 2-10 hours per month WELFARE OFFICER Ensure child protection best practice Oversee PVG checks Point of contact for concerns Sign-post/refer Maintain records 1-10 hours per month MARKETING LEAD Collaborate with the Fundraising Lead Develop the club brand Oversee website and social media Build business contacts 2-20 hours per month FUNDRAISING LEAD Collaborate with the Marketing Lead Coordinate fundraising activities and events 2-10 hours per month depending on events schedule ORDINARY MEMBERS Open invitation for any club member to attend any Leadership meeting Make a specific contribution out with the other roles Contribute project-byproject

Support roles Supporters are the team behind the teams. They are the people that keep things moving in the background so the players can focus on being the best they can be. The youth Volunteer also play a key role in supporting games and events. Game Day Help out at games Connect people together Promote the teams TEAM MANAGERS Coordinate team travel, logistics, uniforms, first aid kit 2-3 hours at home games 2-5 hours for away games GAME PROMOTERS Support the referees pre-game welcome, ingame support, post-game food 2 hours at home games SOCIAL MEDIA SUPPORTERS Post scores, updates, photos and short videos to social media 1-2 hours at home or away games TUCK SHOP SUPPORTERS Prepare and sell teas and coffees (handle cash) Make post-game food for teams 2-4 hours at home games HOME GAME SUPPORTERS Set up/down the court chairs, tables, score equipment Tidy up between games 1-2 hours at home games GAME SUPPORT Statisticians, table officials, video operators Can be Volunteer and/or parents 2 hours per home game Off-court Help out at home games Connect people together Promote the teams TEAM FUNDRAISERS Arrange team fundraising activities e.g. bag packs Hours to fit your availability TEAM REPORTERS Write positive game report after each game 1-2 hours every second week CONNECTORS Organise team (and parent!) social events Hours to fit your availability WEBSITE MANAGER Upload and edit web content Experience with wordpress required 1-3 hours per week PHOTOGRAPHER photos, player profile pics Game photos Marketing photo-shoots Hours to fit your availability GRAPHIC DESIGNER Develop the Blaze visual identity and campaigns Design posters, flyers, t- shirts etc Hours to fit your availability

Coaching roles Coaches and officials are the technical people. They encourage, inspire, teach and develop players to become the best they can be. The youth Volunteer also develop their coaching skills through assisting at children s training and events. Coaching Develop players to develop teams. All roles are responsible to the Club Head Coach CLUB HEAD COACH Club-wide technical direction Lead on player selection Support coaches 5-15 hours per week OFFICIATING CHAMPION Coach the club s referees Educate players and coaches on rule interpretations 2-4 hours on Fridays STRENGTH & CONDITIONING LEAD Deliver sessions to players Devise group and individual tests and workouts 5-20 hours per week HEAD COACHES Squad head coaches at various ages/levels Plan and deliver training and games 4-20 hours per week ASSISTANT COACHES Support head coaches Support players to develop Coach games as required 4-20 hours per week COMMUNITY COACHES Participation coaching for children on sessional basis Responsible to Crags Activities Coordinator 1-10 hours per week TABLE OFFICIALS Keep the score and time so the games run smoothly 1-5 hours per week COMMISSIONERS Oversee table officials, statisticians Support the development of young officials 2-6 hours on game days REFEREES Referee games for under 10, 12, 14 age groups Could progress to regional/national levels 1-6 hours per week
