Accommodation Detail
Mechanical and Rigging Construction: Westerly Berwick, Built by Westerly in 1978 to a Laurent Giles design. GRP hull, deck and superstructure Bilge keels Demand for 31 foot bilge keelers came to the fore in the mid 70's. The availability of smaller Westerly's such as the Centaur, Pageant and Warwick had been extremely successful in this design. When Westerly launched the Longbow in 1971 with her obvious sailing qualities and accomodation capabilities, it soon was apparent that a bilge keel or shallow draft option was required for the market. The Berwick's long waterline length gives her a good turn of speed while the transom stem provides a roomy and safe cockpit. Her big semi-balanced rudder improves manoeverability in tight spaces under power and easy handling on the tiller when sailing. Raised accomodation coachroof increases the volume in the boat allowing full standing headroom right up till the forward cabin. GRP hand laid hull with internal stringers for strength and rigidity. Bulkheads bonded and tabbed to hull. Hull professionally repainted in 2008. Stainless steel bow and stern rails for safety and strategicly placed teak grab rails on coach roof allow safe passage around the decks. Decks finished in non skid pattern.
